BBC's Sherlock: Series 3

I don't think it needed to be a big case. Look at the pilot. Just a very generic case. As was episode 2 and the second episode of the second series. All based around fairly simple cases with character moments woven in, for example with Hounds you had that great bit in the Inn with Sherlock slowly going crazy and declaring Watson wasn't his friend. I think back on S2 with fond memories off great overall episodes.

So far with S3 I'm thinking back to great moments not necessarily strong episodes. I sound far harsher than I'm meaning as I do really really like S3 I'd give episode 1 8/10 and episode 2 9.5/10. In both episodes though it's lost that element of intrigue. There's no mystery really so far. Or ohhhh how are they gonna solve/get out of this? As all those things have been pushed aside. Like I said the majority of these episodes have just been the characters... doing stuff. Strangely enough that's exactly how I feel with Doctor Who's last few episodes. I know Moffat likely has barely any inclusion with the last two episodes but he will have some, some dialogue in particular has screamed Moffat. But in DW there's been barely any plot. Things have just happened. And so far I'd say the same for this season.

Except the overall writing, acting and production has been stellar and the final product still highly watchable.

Yeah the logic is is that the photographer stabbed the soldiers through the belt but as you see at the beginning the belt is on extremely tight so it wouldn't really be visible until the belt was taken off. And by then it would be too late I guess?

I love character stuff but what was so good IMO about S2 was that all that stuff was surrounded with a story that, even though was basic, was woven very well with character stuff.
So far in S3 we've just had characters doing things. Which is great cause the stuff that's being written for them is very strong (the Sherlock speech for John about him neglecting the beautiful... was just amazing such a brilliantly written payoff for all the loyalty John has shown) but everything else is like an afterthought. Which I guess is fine but it doesn't exactly give the show much of a threat or pace for example in both episodes theres been a slight drag at points for me, cause when the character moments did subside there was never a really interesting plot to take over. Next episode looks to get over that worry though.
A Scandal in Belgravia still is my favorite. That episode is perfect.

Agreed 100% I love Belgravia. It had the perfect combination of a wonderfully inventive mystery, character development, humor, and incredibly intense moments.

I've loved the past two episodes, but I really hope episode three can recapture a bit of the dark intensity that episodes like Belgravia, Scarlet, or Fall had.

Yeah it was perfect for me. A very very simple plot woven together wonderfully. All little things were actually part of one bigger story and the music was just amazing. I always thought that if 'Blind Banker' was the pilot I would have loved it but as it followed such a strong episode it seemed weaker. I feel the same with this. I loved the Empty Hearse but in comparison to Season 2 it seems weaker.

So far I'd rate the episodes in this order -
Scandal
Fall
Three
Pink
Hearse
Game
Baskerville
Banker

I thought it would be the internal trauma that would have killed him, and the blood was just there to show he'd been stabbed.

No it's not the internal trauma. It's the stab wound and blood loss. The belt on their uniforms was apparently holding the wound closed.

I also thought it was some sort of hidden blade in the buckle or something, but that's not what it was. He snuck up on the guys and casually stabbed them. Apparently they didn't really notice it.

What makes you think that ? I think she is genuine.

Sherlock falling asleep on the rug and then vomiting on it was gold.
Also, what was the deal with the test tube, Sherlock timing the drinking and the pee volume ?

It's too convenient. When Sherlock analyzed her it was almost like he couldn't get a read on her. Also, her realization of the kidnapping texts set to her on Watson.

Also the telegram sent to her by Magnussen.

Also in the sizing up of Mary there are few negative ones cropped in. Like 'Liar' and a few others.

Yeah, they kind of glossed over it. But it seemed pretty obvious that Sherlock couldn't pin down Mary, meaning she has a lot of dark secrets.

I think she has some secret relationship with Magnussen. Maybe she's being coerced. Maybe she has a secret past with him. But I think she's some sort of sleeper agent for him.

Well he is the king of blackmailers :cwink:

I didn't though much about Mary's reading by Sherlock and I missed the telegram stuff it seems.
It makes more sense now.

:hehe: Is anyone here following the blog of John Watson website? The last entry chronicling their last case of course (The Sign of Three) was not written by John at all... I'll let you read it by yourself.

Wow!!!!!!!!! What a day!!!!!! That was the best wedding ever!!!!!! Sherlock was amazing! Love is amazing! Fluffy clouds and little birds are amazing!!! It was all just like so amazing! I'm going to write up all about it here! Because you all love reading my blog because I'm such a good writer!!! Perhaps I'll write about some of the other mundane stuff I do like playing board games or eating sandwiches and drinking tea in front of the Eastenders!
Sorry. I can't do it any more. I was going to attempt to mimic John's style of writing for an entire blog post but life's too short. And I say that as someone who died over two years ago. Good evening everyone, this is Sherlock Holmes. John can't be with you today as he is on his Sex Holiday. Sorry, honeymoon.
Apparently we aren't allowed to call it Sex Holiday. Apparently we really shouldn't tell children that John and his wife have gone on Sex Holiday. They've chosen to go somewhere hot and sunny with beaches and cocktails or something. To be honest, he talks about things and I phase out. She's the same. They're both perfectly acceptable friends in their own way but then they start talking and I wish I really had died. I am, however, quite happy that they have found each other and that they make each other happy. That's nice, isn't it. And it is very nice to have the place to myself without their meaningless chatter distracting me from more important things.
Anyway. I decided that I'd share with you a video of the wedding. It's a video of the photos of the wedding. Sadly there are no photos of the attempted murder. If there are any attempted murders at John's next wedding, I promise to take photos.
Good evening.
Sherlock Holmes
Consulting Detective and Best Man

"The point I'm trying to make is that I am the most unpleasant, rude, ignorant and all around obnoxious ******** that anyone could possibly have the misfortune to meet. I am dismissive of the virtuous, unaware of the beautiful, and uncomprehending in the face of the happy. So if I didn’t understand I was being asked to be a best man, it is because I never expected to be anybody’s best friend.”

:waa:

The "next wedding" was a bit funny and potentially telling although probably not meant to be foreshadowing, even if they follow the overall story of Holmes.

[blackout]By which I mean assuming Watson's wife Mary dies. Which may/may not happen in this interpetation.[/blackout]

That was a great episode. Hilarious and emotional at the same time. Although I didn't really understand how the photographer was killing. The belt was holding in the knife or whatever sharp thingamajig he was using and that was stopping the bleeding but how did they not feel anything when they were stabbed?
It's too bad that Mary is some sort of sleeper agent or some sort of agent of Magnussen.

It's a shame she'll die.

I really hope not! I'm loving Mary. Even Sherlock's getting along with her. Even if she gets in trouble, I hope she makes it out fine.

I got the impression that it was one sudden stab done in such a way that the victim thought they being prodded and not stabbed but I agree you would have thought they'd feel the pain and later check with that guard discovering he was bleeding when he took off his clothes before he went for the shower...

Hmm you know the master blackmailer was killed by one his many victims?

Could he be trying to blackmail Mary again except this time she has help?

Sherlock claims to be a functional sociopath, i recall he threw someone out of a window when they struck Mrs Hudson, what would he do if Magnussen threatened his best friend's wife especially as she's pregnant?

Lord what happens if they eventually ask him to be the godfather and how long before his parents hear about it?!

The reason they didn't feel it is actually explained in that little sequence with John and Sherlock on the bench.

A few spoiler free reviews are floating of the final episode. General consensus? Outstanding. Maybe the best episode they've done ever. Anyone worried about lack of darkness/cases should be very happy with it.

Series 4 & 5 were announced? OH MY SHERLOCK!!!!!

I believe it was not announced/confirmed, but rather Moffat and Gatiss were saying that they already have the stories planned out up to Seasons 4 and 5.

That probably means they're expecting to get renewed or have been told something in that vein. So it's a good bet we'll have more Sherlock for the foreseeable future.

It was just their ideas for the next two seasons although I don't know how it couldn't be renewed for another two runs. And beyond. It's not like the ratings or the reviews for this series are poor.

I mean, now that Star Trek and Hobbit are done, you should get them in for another season quickly while you still can.

and because an episode of Sherlock >>>>>>>>> any new ST/Hobbit

Well I mean who wouldn't want to watch this dynamic duo for another six episodes?

They've also said they are going to get it made as quickly as possible. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s129...make-it-as-quickly-as-we-can-says-moffat.html

They are already trying to sort out schedules and dates. It's gotta happen just a question of how soon.

Anyway I've read a couple of reviews and here is what is said, it pretty much shoves in your face that (A COUPLE OF BIG POTENTIAL SPOILERS)
Mary is someone who we do not expect, one review in particular seems to say that she is a full on threat. They never mention Mary but say it's a big character. And seeing as there aren't many other options it has to be her.
They also say there are MANY clues to this reveal in the last two episodes and that after Vow you will view this episodes a little differently.
There's also another surprise cameo (this show being of little cast means it can really only be Adler or Moriarty)
It also ends on a BIG cliffhanger. Again. :(
