Affleck is probably laughing it off personally, but a lesser person would probably be breaking down right now hearing all this **** about them.

I don't see how anything people say now can really faze him after "Bennifer" and the attention that got him.

It is. I'm just gonna keep pulling the Ledger/Hathaway card until July 17th 2015. Oh and your avy is awesome! :woot:

I had supported the Ledger & Hathaway casting back in the old days, and I'm glad both turned out to be great in their respective roles. I'm still on the fence regarding Affleck, even though I like him as an actor and director, but I might eventually buy in to the casting within the next 2 years.

I was in Edinburgh for the Book Festival over the past couple of days, and after staying at a friend's house last night, I got up about 9am and went in for a shower. I'm just out of the shower, getting ready, when my friend bashes the door and shouts "AFFLECK IS BATMAN!" Certainly a memorable start to the day!

To say the response has been vitriolic from the fanbase is an understatement. There is already a petition with over 50,000 signatures demanding he be removed from the role. At first I was too scared to go on SuperHero Hype for fear of the hate-wave. Me? I think the hate is absolutely predictable, but overblown and unfair.

Honestly, I'd have had a much bigger thrill of excitement to news he was replacing Zack Snyder as director of the film than to news he's starring in it as Batman. As a director, he's never made a bad film, and is on a whole class above Snyder.

But though I wouldn't have leapt to cast him as Batman, I do think he's underrated as an actor. Yes, he had a famed bad period with some of the highest profile turkeys ever back in the late 90s/ early 00s. But over the past decade he's had much more good acting roles than bad. I'm not just saying this to be an apologist, it's stuff I've been saying for a while now, like back during ARGO's release when I asked when people would finally forgive Affleck when he's already more than redeemed himself.

And actually, though I never considered him, he does tick a lot of boxes as Batman. He has the black hair, the square chin. He's old enough to fit the "older Batman" type the producers wanted, but he has one of those youthful faces that makes him look about 10 years younger than he actually is. If he can get in good enough shape to be convincing in fight scenes, I think he's a good enough physical match. And, though many disagree, I think he has the talent to pull it off. He's not Christian Bale - as an actor, he's more solid than spectacular - but the choice is far from disastrous.

I'm keeping an open mind. For me, the worst thing about Affleck's casting is the hard time the guy is going to go through from fanboys over the next couple of years, but I hope come 2015 he proves them wrong. The big thing to take from all this is... WE HAVE A NEW BATMAN!

i can not belive that Snyder called him. in 2012 WB were trying to get Affleck for JL and be batman inside the JL movie. WB was in Affleck business for a long time. in 2013 he won oscars with Argo. WB had to be the ones who got him to talk for this movie. hahaha :woot:

wb was trying to get affleck to direct(JL), that's all those articles said.

I do remember all the crap Daniel Craig got. Lot's of superficial stuff from a conditioned fanbase.
(hair colour, height, age...etc)

I even remember the former bond vouching for him. And then look where we are now.
Like I said in the last thread. It's stupid and embarrassing that this keeps happening.
Why not judges after the fact?

That being said Reynolds did suck as hal lol.

In all honesty I am glad that this happened. The veil has been lifted, so to speak. We know who's who.

Love the outrage. You would think they just cast Charles Manson as Batman.

So many people are declaring martial law on various sites it's unreal.

I wince at the thought of the talkbacks right now.

Hah! Tune in to Nightly News if you want to see them talk about the backlash Affleck is getting. (not now, in a few minutes.)

It's a little unsettling how this is on par with actual world news, and probably preempting it.

Its all fluff today with social media and "real" news. Sad in a way. But it is what it is.

If Ben does great as Batman can we hope for a Batman/Flash film, a Batman/WW film. The possibilities are endless but Ben is just one guy and unless they can clone him..........

Yes. You have. :o

Gigli and Chris Benoit look alike
:(:(:(

Bring back Bale - bring back Welling!

Spot on. Anyone who suggested Mangenellio, Adkins etc for the role has no to right to criticise Affleck.

I was for Adkins, but Affleck will do the job just fine. :word: But also as someone here, I dont follow user's posts to see what they writed before just for someone make their point how right they were :oldrazz: It was casting thread for godsake, deal with it :whatever:

i can't help but laugh at how big this has become. This movie won't hit the big screen for almost 2yrs but its on tip of nearly everyone's tongue.

I have little doubt Affleck is going to be anything less than decent in the role. The guy has a resume that speaks for itself when ever they say his name in a report it is always followed by 2 time academy award winner.

It is a joke to think this guy will put on a performance that would make anybody cringe. John Hamm said when he starred in the Town alongside Affleck who got jacked for the role he was ashamed to take off his ****. He takes this **** serious by 2015 when the movie comes out we all are going to be leaving that theater like " That was GODAMN BATMAN!!".
