It's hilarious how so few people on here actually know any details about Affleck aside from, "arggh, I can't get off the hate bandwagon because it's cool to hate him."

I've seen Diana stand at all sorts of heights in relation to her peers.

I'm not sure about this fascination with character heights matching the books. It's all about presence for me personally.

Presence is king...but visual cues shouldn't be underestimated. I've always found it to be a nice little wink that Bruce has to look up at Clark.
Not too worried about that though. I'm sure some effort will be made to make them appear at least relatively close in height.

If there's one strike against Ben it's that he doesn't get my juices flowin' but he is attractive, just not my type. Especially compared to that Cavill. :atp:

Typical woman, only caring about looks. :o

It is a visual medium. Visual cues are key.

People were apparently finally appeased for Heath when the first TDK trailer came out. Can one trailer really do the same for Ben? seeing as batman isn't really as flamboyant as the joker and not as easy to impress perhaps in just 2 minutes time.

As I said earlier, it will be a long time from now, but that first image will be so key.

Ben has been a heartthrob so he probably gets just as many womens' juices flowing as Cavill. Just different women. He's a decade older than Cavill too.

I've never hated him but after his last three movies your grasping at straws.

DarthSkyWalker, can I just say that we seem to disagree with our assessment of Ben Affleck as Batman, but I commend you for your lucid, level-headed and rational criticisms. :)

Im pretty much torn on this. It doesn't get me excited like a Karl Urban announcement would, but im not disappointed like Orlando Bloom would have resulted in.

My main problems or questions are, who cast Affleck, Snyder or the studio? Did he even have to audition? And most importantly, does he have any passion at all for the character or is he doing this for the wrong reasons?

"Snyder and the studio already had ideas for a follow-up, and Snyder reached out to Affleck to check the star's interest."

Seems like Snyder cast Affleck

"But Affleck was curious, and initial talks focusing on story and character began."

I feel it was a consensus decision, right because he's a notable name and to secure another player for DC's universe besides Snyder/Goyer, now if everthing goes according to the plan I'm sure he'll direct Batman, that's a guarantee but besides that I don't know. Opinion on his acting skills asides, he's definitely passionate about comics books in general.

What's funny to me is that in a post Schumacher /90s world, where the Dark Knight trilogy is highly regarded and 007 has been successfully rebooted, people act like WB cast Affleck because it was such a popular decision. Like he didn't pass screen tests, fittings, etc. Billion dollar movies are a relatively new thing. And honestly, since becoming a director his track record has been solid.

Does Ben have to screen test in the Nolan suit? :hmm

What exactly would the first image be though? Ben as Bruce? Ben in full batman outfit which would pretty much have most of his face obscured anyways?

Not so simple as the first Cavill superman image where you obviously have his face and costume both front and center.

I got my emotional outburst and crying out yesterday. Now is the time to actually think about this stuff.

Never used that smiley didnt realize its for sarcasm haha
Well now I feel like an ass. My bad. Though it is the preferred smilie of these boards. :woot:

It's possible, though unlikely to me since I'm on the Affleck hate bandwagon.

Here's the thing: when the trailer for the Dark Knight hit and we finally saw the Joker, Ledger was damn near unrecognizable. If I hadn't known otherwise I wouldn't have believed it.
....That's pretty much what Ben Affleck is going to have to do to win over the haters, he has to dissapear into this character. When that trailer hits and we see him walking and talking he's going to have to look and sound basically nothing at all like Ben Affleck.

Personally...I'm still expecting Daredevil 2.0 from him.

In that case, I trust them. I feel like Ben probably identifies with being "boxed-in" like Bruce Wayne is when he isn't Batman. He's made it up the A-list and made some very acclaimed movies. Yet he's still on the receiving end of anger and mockery. I feel like he'll go out of his way to bring a memorable performance. I could be wrong, though.
