"You don’t do it forever"

You've only had the role since 2015.

July: "I would play an ape for Matt Reeves."
November: "It's something I'm contemplating."

Homeslice ain't coming back.

How fast would they need to get another actor if this movie is slated for 2019?

To be fair, he's been on set for three shoots as this character in the span of a few years. It's more about how many times he's played the role.

I think he'll play Batman in the first Reeves movie, and exit. I can see a limited role, where they cut to flashbacks with a younger actor playing Bruce for most of the film. That would be a segue for them to retire his older version and carry on with two more films featuring Armie Hammer or whoever they cast.

If the plan is to have this movie out by summer 2019, then they'd need to start shooting by summer 2018 at the absolute latest (May/June). Figure you want to give an actor 3-4 months to train, so I'd say we'd hear something by February/March, which works out since that'd probably be right around the time that JL is hitting Blu-Ray/VOD.

He said he doesn't want to do it forever. That's in context of time, not quantity. He's only had the role for 2 years.

You've got actors in the MCU committing to 6+ films, and even actors in the DCEU talking about how they'd love to keep playing their characters for a long time, and then here's Affleck (on the press-tour for the movie that's really supposed to kick off the DCEU at large) talking about how he's looking for an exit.

It's not a good look.

Eh
With all the rumors and people expecting home to leave, it’s not like it’s a huge shock.

As much as I love batfleck, recasting is probably for the best.
Someone younger.

Excited to see what happens

If they do cast younger, which I think is likely, I wonder how that'll be explained in universe.

Keaton felt that way after the first movie, and especially after the second time. He must be sick of the heavy workout and critics slamming each film. Just trying to be fair. But I do think it's funny since Bale was on and off as this character for 9 years, while Ben hasn't appeared in a full on Batman movie yet.

If he doesn't continue, he will be known as the older Batman who appeared in those weird messy team up movies that featured a bunch of DC superheroes. And that will be his legacy, because let's face it, Reeves' trilogy will most likely take a lot from the current costume design and just make it better. Which means "comic book looking Batfleck" will not be a exclusive thing for Ben's version. People will remember the quality and look of the films, as well as his acting/physique. It baffles me to think that Ben could be remembered as one of the greats, or even the greatest of all time when in 5 years from now, the talk of the town will be "the younger version in the prequels is much better".

Recasting for more Justice League films would be a foolish decision. They need to do prequels that can also serve as a soft reboot.

Do the next Batman and the next JL after flashpoint and introduce the younger Bruce at the end of that.

I actually think the solo movies will have a drastically different costume.
