Best and Worst of Directors

Bryan Singer

Best: Tie between X2 and The Usual Suspects

Worst: Jack the Giant Slayer

I actually think The Fountain is pretty good. I dare anyone to pick out the best Coen Brothers' movie.

I like The Fountain. There are some directors who's worst film is still pretty good in my eyes. Aronofsky is one of them.

Best Coen Brother's movie is No Country for old men. Hands down

And still there's Fargo, Raising Arizona, O' Brother Where Art Thou?, The Big Lebowski, Blood Simple, Inside Llewyn Davis, etc.

Makoto Shinkai
Best: The Place Promised in Our Early Days
Worst: Garden of Words

Mamoru Oshii
Best: Ghost in the Shell: Innocence
Worst: Assault Girls

M Night Shyamalamadingdong

Best: The Sixth Sense

Worst: The Last Airbender (some of his original movies might technically be worse, but considering he had a virtual mega-hit practically gift wrapped for him and presented on a silver platter, there's absolutely no excuse for the shoddy work put into this film)

M Night Shyamalan

Best- Unbreakable
Worst- After Earth/ Last Airbender (toss up)

Considering all he had to do was stay true to the source material, and not try to cram 22 episodes into a single 2 hour movie, I say Last Airbender beats out After Earth as his worst movie by far. With After Earth he can just shrug and say "Oh well, they can't all be gems". But with Last Airbender, he actually stripped the story of all of its charm, wit, and excitement, tried to cram over 400 minutes of the show into a 120 minute movie, and then actually have the audacity to say "Isn't my version so much better?"

Uwe Boll

Best:

Worst: Everything else

I actually understand that one of his original German movies (that's not a video game adaptation) was very well received in Europe. That was very early in his career, before he became known as the worst film maker in history. Of course now he's a complete joke and can't raise any money for any new movie projects (thank God).

E.g. Christopher Nolan:
Worst- Insomnia
Nolan
Worst - Insomnia
Christopher Nolan:
Worst - Insomnia
Christopher Nolan-
Worst: The Dark Knight
Christopher Nolan:
Worst: Insomnia
Christopher Nolan
Worst: Following
Christopher Nolan:
Worst: Interstellar (although it wasn't BAD per se).
I find it very odd that not one of you have said The Dark Knight Rises.

I mean, I still liked it, but...

TDKR is more laid back and embracing of it's pulpy roots. It's Nolan being a big kid and playing with his toys and it translates better for the material.

I would've placed TDKR as his second "Worst" so to speak. Think Insomnia edges it.

Francis Ford Coppola

Best: Apocalypse Now
Worst: Jack.

All bankruptcies aside, what the hell happened to him?

Spike Jonze

Best: Being John Malkovich
Worst: Where The Wild Things Are - I respect this movie much more than I enjoy it.
