Best/Worst Character Revamps

Yeah, I concur it was really original, but I think a villain does not need to be original (design speaking). From this point of view, Bane's design is really original too, and just as for Bane , I think the design didn't suit the character. And indeed, I thought that Timm's design suited the character more, because he Riddler is suppose to be a brain, not a fashion emperor, well, you know, just the fact that his brain sur-compensate what he lacks in other areas.
If you watch the character portrayal of edward in 'the riddler's revenge', you see him as somewhat of a loner after he separates from his girl and he already has long 'goth' like hair and his experiments are underminded. He's not a flamboyant as in dcau which is why his clothes are more introvert based and dark in mood with his goth look.

that's how i rationalise it.

Freeze was the best Revamp, Though I miss the more human element of him trying to save his wife. Not this I'm a common thief garbage.

Speaking of Freeze, I feel that even though he was never redeemed in later episodes, I loved how they made the character more of a cold sociopath in "Artifacts". I just thought that was a really nice touch.

Joker
As far as I'm concerned, the only thing wrong with the Joker is that he suffers from poor writing. His plots are silly little things Batman can predictably stop and he makes bad puns. But considering that his canon design looks like a cross between Ronald McDonald and that Emcee from Cabaret, I'm in love with this look. "Oh but he's got bare feet and dreadlocks!" Yeah, cuz he's supposed to be batsiht insane! People seem to adore the idea that Heath Ledger's Joker never washes off his makeup because he's crazy enough to be unconcerned about his physical well being but God forbid he walk around sans shoes and hasn't gotten a haircut in a while. I like the design because it's more angular and expresses that he's actually devolved a bit and lost a sense of humanity. All he really needs is a personality tweak to match.

Also, they've actually changed the design a bit since season one, and I don't just mean the outfit. He's got eyeshadow, black lips and his teeth don't fit together anymore.

Bane
Might actually look pretty badass if he didn't have such comically tiny legs. As it stands (pun?) he looks like his heart's 3 seconds from exploding.

Freeze
Characterwise, they ruined him. Design-wise, it's really on the fence. The jagged ice helmet is pretty badass but a bit too "X-Treme!" and purely aesthetical. Sure it looks cool (pun again?) But realistically it's hard enough to see through ice when it's smooth. He should constantly be tripping in those huge boots and shattering that sucker.

Riddler
Never really a character known for a great costume. Green with purple question mark(s). Sometimes it was a unitard, sometimes it was a door to door salesman getup. Out of costume, he was a nondescript white guy. So what did this show do? Turn him into a Marilyn Manson/Davey Havoc looking dude with facial tattoos and give him a second skin uni that showed off his girly physique. Verdict? Upgrade! Look, it's not like the guy was ever a raging disPlay of unbridled masculinity. Not only did they make him look unique, they made him f-ing creepy. And if nothing else, an Emo-girl's fantasy.

his best outing by far was in artifacts, they should have given him that suped up costume from the get-go...

he did so well that they tried to recreate that whole ep (to the letter) with firefly in season five but it came off as a weaker ep...

man, this show is really missing matsuda at the helm...

I actually love the joker. The fact he was originally in the show frequently helped show he was a force to be reckoned with, I liked how he was in arkham and had escaped a few times and went back in and how he messed with bennet and dressed up as bats and all that jazz. I even like how he stole bane's formulae and used it on himself. I love his voice, i like the fact he more of a physical adversary, he pisses people off more and is generally more menacing. I also LOVE his voice acting with funny sides that quickly drop into sinister serious tales. I love his relationship with batman in strange minds and also in the batman vs dracula where bats has him locked up and actually feeds him samples of his own blood. The rivalry is intense but they haven't captures much of the spark of it in latter seasons.

The Joker in The Batman is the worst Joker ever created for any Batman movie or series. In The Batman the joker is horribly sickening, and not in the deep interesting way, but instead in a nauseating, "why would they do that?" way. In the show he doesn't look remotely human, instead he looks like a sick deranged creature. As for the voice, not near the Jokingly hillarious, yet crazy voice needed to bring out the character, instead a darker, sick, voice. Nowhere near Mark Hamill's voice or laugh. Instead of witty and deep, he is brutal and straightforward. I have enough problems with that show, but the Joker is the most horrible and disgraceful mistake made.

Green Arrow,Flash,Green Lantern were all terrible.

well i liked Green Arrow and sorta like Green Lantern if he had his ring the whole show. But flash was definitely bad

dude, you sound like plenty of people around on this site, word for word.

meh, i know he hasnt had many great outings but you show me one in tas that's better and more chilling than the laughing bat, then come talk to me...

Green Arrow,Flash,Green Lantern were all terrible.
designs were all good, but they weren't fleshed out properly.

i would say potentially green arrow and flash would be alright but flash was horrible in all senses of the word....

i guess time will tell with the season finale...

I recall how in the first season, Joker had sort of a fascination with Batman. It was sort of a sick, brotherly relationship. It wasn't the most fleshed out rivalry but it beats the sillyness we've had recently.

i thought they were genius, considering you only got to seem them for a bit.

in tas, he only had a head, i'm sure he had legs on them too...

Have you ever read League of Extraordinary gentlemen Vol 2? Mr. Hyde attacks a Martian tripod while asking it something like "Do you know why God doesn't make anything with 3 legs?" He then proceeds to rip off a leg causing it to topple over. "Because it's impractical!"

I always feel very mixed about this show. Most of the things I dislike about it, though, have to do with how certain characters have been portrayed. In my opinion, the Joker is absolutely awful. Very few episodes have been true to his character, which is upsetting, considering he is Batman's deadliest foe. The only episode which I think did the Joker true justice was The Laughing Bat. Ever since, I have hardly been able to watch a Joker episode without it leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

I'm also not a fan of the Penguin, and he actually rivals the Joker sometimes, in terms of my disdain towards his portrayal. I can't stand his voice at all. His puns are poorly written, and I am not a fan of how he can match Batman physically. He's supposed to be a brainy villain; instead, he's portrayed as one of Batman's least-intelligent foes. Quite a shame.

The only other villain I truly have a major problem with is Mr. Freeze. It has nothing to do with his origin or his motifs; rather, I feel like they waste him every time he appears on screen. If I remember correctly, he's only had one solo episode; otherwise, he's just been reduced to a sidekick, which I think is a shame.

On the other side of things, I really like how they've portrayed the Riddler. He's smart and frightening at the same time, and his back story has definitely been one of the strongest aspects of the show so far. Similarly, Hugo Strange turned out to be one of the most developed villains in the series. I'm glad The Batman spent a lot of time on him. I always felt BTAS wasted him.

I think the batman took a bit of a sacrifice with a lot of batman's rogues by trying to make penguin and the joker the big dudes, they heavily used them (as well as clayface to build up his story arc) but neglected alot of the rest while still trying to maintain a heavy number of baddies in the show...

people seem to mention alot of them but there was gearhead, the dude in Q & A and also the dude in cash for toys who got really poor outings and didn't ever get properly developed afterwards

The three legged thing works for mechanical devices because it instantly sticks out from anything natural and that's why it works if you wish to create that eerie feeling.

Okay I'll start with the best, because its going to be short......

Riddler I dont know what the direct appeal is for me, I kind of like the goth approuch with him. I love Timms version but this riddler seems like more of a threat and that he could flip out at any chance given.

Black Mask I am in the middle for him, so I'll just go with better. In the comics I felt they didnt use his full potentail so I guess I can forgive with him. I really enjoyed the superman episode with him, I felt like they got him right in that episode.

Firefly Yup, nuff said

Martain Man hunter I know they didnt really do anything with him, but damn I did enjoy his episodes. Very well done.

Worst

Joker ER! What did they do? He's a F'ing monkey?! I love my Joker as a pshylogical threat, not some monkey. He's not the threat that any of the other jokers have appeared as over the years. He's just a goof ball. Plus it dosent help that they cant write him, his jokers are corny as hell and again he's not threating.

Penquin He knows karate.......what?

ScarFace This is just me being picky, but I really hate the whole gansta approuch.

Freeze Way to spit on the TAS batman with this one, my god they actually took away what made him a GOOD villain and not your generic villain of the week.

Clue Master Oh man was he dumb....A guy who went crazy because of a game show???? They must really hate us!

Clayface Again being nit picky but I dont prefer his out come on this show, its fine I just dont care for it.

Poison Ivy No, just no. Actually I like the angle of her being a protester at first. Thats kind of cool, the rest is dumb as hell.

Bane What is there to him in this show? Nothing.

My biggest problem with this show is that they seem to take away the human element we've been given over the years. They only seem concerned about the action and not the human part of it.

....I hope you didn't make that.

No. But would you really think any different of me if I did?:oldrazz:

To all the Joker haters, I just wanna point out that completely owned Batman Vs Dracula. And he only had a bit part in that. Highlights include...

[YT]<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/t0OhseY0QcU&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/t0OhseY0QcU&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>[/YT]

First came his introduction hinted as the guy whose escaped Arkham more than anybody else. We find he escaped, to the cheers of his fellow crazies, through the sewers, throws off his straightjacket like it's nothing and flamboyantly awaits a standing ovation outside Arkham in a lightening storm. What does he procede to do afterwards? Leap across traffic like a friggin maniac! I mean he's the very embodiment of insanity right there! Playing in traffic and cackling madly. Shakes Penguin's flipper(?) catching him off guard with the old 'zapper routine' and then adds ANOTHER zapper! Moving on, he faces down with Batman, slips, falls, is about to plunge into a watery grave when Bats offers his hand in rescue. Batman then wises up realizing Joker would just shock him and, almost happily and with no real consideration of his own well being, the clown falls into the water shocking himself thoroughly.

Then, as he seemed to always do in BTAS, he comes back from the dead alluding to electroshock therapy and terrified fisherman. Now in a more business oriented mode, he hunts down Penguin in search of the treasure he escaped Arkham for in the first place. Joker dodges his flamethrower and reflexively whips out an extending boxing glove thingy knocking him out.

Finally, he gets what's coming to him via Dracula, becomes a vampire and traumatizes the hell out of any 5-year olds watching.

How can you not love that guy? If only the series had as much creative freedom as a DTV movie did. Like I said, it's only poor writing.

Best:
1. Firefly-the suit is a definite upgrade, and the characterization makes him a more deadlier foe as well.
2. Bane-I like the black, ninja like suit and mask. But they didn't have to make him red.
3. Batgirl-I like the little skirt.
4. Robin-I like this version-drawing wise- better than the WB's take on him. However, I find the character annoying.
5. Superman-this depiction was very nice, classic. I loved Supes in STAS, JLU, but if they had to do an alternative, this version of him works for me.

Worst:
1. Riddler-looks way too weird
2. Joker-also don't like how this guy is drawn. He's too muscular, and barefoot? I do like the voice work though.
3. Penguin-this design is also blah, and the voice work is annoying. This Penguin is definitely not a threat.
4. Clayface-I don't know if they've changed Clayface's, but I didn't the season one CF, who was Bruce's friend. I think they should've kept it Matt Hagen, like in BTAS.
5. Mr. Freeze-don't care for this design either, and changing his origin really guts the character.

It's interesting, the lengths they went to play around with the looks of the villains but the other Justic Leaguers really look no different from their comics counterparts.

Aren't the Jokers dreads supposed to resemble a jesters hat?
