Black Panther The Official News and Speculation Thread - Part 7

He went toe to toe with Bucky without the suit, took hits from him (I think even from the metal arm) and held his own. And he somehow got up the stairwell pretty damn quick when Bucky had a head start on him. I think that demonstrated that the suit wasn't the source of his power.

In the standard action movie, none of that stuff screams "superhuman" (even though it should). Just watch the last 3 FAST AND THE FURIOUS movies if you don't believe me.

EXACTLY. It should also be pointed out that even though T'Challa was shown fighting Bucky out of the suit and doing "superhuman leaps", that what he was shown doing in those fight scenes out of his costume were things that we've seen people doing in pretty much in most standard American action films since the 80's and in most Hong Kong and Japanese action films since the 60's.

I don't remember anyone making superhuman leaps up whole flights of stairs in standard action films...maybe the Sho Kosugi ninja movies :funny:

Andy Serkis on Klaue’s accent

"We decided that Klaue, we would make him South African, a very strong Afrikaans, quite bullish," Serkis said. "Edging towards not being a politically correct person, he’d fit in the White House quite perfectly. I didn’t say that! … or, in fact, in Britain at the moment."

The accent, however, will be more than just a characteristic. If Serkis' description is any indication, it will also serve as a tool and advantage for the film's villain. "It was quite a smart decision, I think," Serkis said. "It gives him a real edge. Also, because of the relationship to Wakanda as well, a misunderstood African nation, it fits very well politically that he was of South African descent at a time when, of course, he grew up through Apartheid."

I was talking about the comic universe but you're right, I forgot about Cho; not sure she counts though, she so far she's only appeared in one movie and in a relatively minor role.

In the comic book universe, you have Amadeus Cho's sister,Moira MacTaggert,Alyssa Moy,Nightshade,Kitty Pryde, and Sage.

I thought that was obvious but then again, I guess not everyone is familiar with an Afrikaans accent or who they are in the first place. (I actually had to explain Apartheid and who Nelson Mandela was to my friends in high school - i.e., only a few years ago.) I've been looking forward to seeing how they'll spin the different faces/facets of racism between Klaue and Ross. Not that the latter is necessarily an out-and-out bigot like Klaue, but he at least represents an organization that's been... let's say unfriendly to African countries.

But he wasn't shown making "superhuman leaps UP whole fights of stairs". However, he was shown making superhuman leaps DOWN whole flights of stairs, which isn't all that unusual in action movies, especially martial arts flicks.

Isn't Klaue South African in the comics?

Pretty neat how they're drawing on apartheid era South Africa into his characterization.

Klaue being South African was a slight recon that I think came about with the Hudlin run. Before that he was just straight-up Belgian; there's not that much of a difference functionally, although it does add a bit more immediacy to his relation to Africa(ns) by giving him an Afrikaner background.

Oh okay. Makes sense. Belgian due to Belgian Congo crisis of the 60's right? I'm sure today people might be wondering why he had a Belgian villain out of all nationalities. But yeah SA works much better.

Probably had something to do with contemporary events, yeah. Pretty common trope with the whole "Darkest Africa" thing; everybody writing an Africa story focused on the Congo before South Africa became the new focal point in maybe the last two or three decades.

The first reactions to Black Panther will drop on Monday at 10pmPT

Okay but try asking any fan who the smartest people in the Marvel universe are and I can guarantee you that none of the characters you mentioned would even make their top 10.

I would never put Kitty Pryde on that list. Sure, she's smart, but in a list of the smartest? No. She's smart compared to most of the other X-Men. And the X-Men are definitley not known for their brains, apart fro Beast.

They know about Wakanda but not what the country possess. Even in the trailer when Klaw asks Ross what he knows about Wakanda and Ross replies by saying "Textile, cool outfit?" with Klaw saying All a front, you could tell Ross was not aware of this just by his facial expression.

If he knew all about Wakanda, he wouldn't be asking T'Challa "How much are you hiding?"

Again, I think you are reading this wrong - Ross' reaction is to Klaw knowing what he knows - that Wakanda is MORE than the official cover story [textiles, cool outfits, etc.] - after all, Ross is aware that BP is watching them behind the two way glass...

but I will agree that Ross may not realize the extent of Wakanda's tech - the voice over about having seen gods and aliens but nothing like this...

Marvel's Black Panther is one of this year's most anticipated movies, and Noovie plans on giving fans more of what they want. The company announced today that a new Noovie Backlot pre-show will be released in theaters nationwide today, January 26, featuring Chadwick Bosman (T'Challa) and Letitia Wright (Shuri) providing an exclusive look at the inner workings of T'Challa's impressive suit.

Describing the suits imrpessive capabilities, Noovie teases:

There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to Black Panther’s suit. Woven with Vibranium fabric mined from the Great Mound in the high-tech kingdom of Wakanda, T’Challa’s suit makes him a tour de force. When the going gets tough, T’Challa can put some distance between himself and his enemies thanks to his suit’s Kinetic Energy Absorption.

“You punch it, you shoot it, boom! It goes off,” Boseman said of the powerful suit, which we actually got a glimpse of in a recent TV spot.

“And, the claws,” he added, “Retractable, also Vibranium. They cut through anything.”

Wright, who’s character Shuri created the suit for her brother T’Challa, agreed, “Sharp, like how you’re gonna look in the suit I made you!”

Fans wanting to catch this exclusive look at Black Panther should arrive at their local Noovie theater at least 30 mintues before showtime.

He pretty much is the MCU's Batman right now.
