The Dark Knight BOF Report 4/17

At first I though Christopher Eccleson? He was rumored as the Scarecrow, which is a role in a previous Batfilm...but then I saw that it was for BATMAN II.

So I'm going to guess that the new "contender" has to be one of these:

1. Hugh Jackman (Rumored as Harvey Dent/Two-Face)
2. Josh Lucas (Rumored as Harvey Dent/Two-Face)
3. Guy Pierce (Rumored as Harvey Dent/Two-Face)
4. Jude Law (Rumored as Harvey Dent/Two-Face)
5. Jake Gyllenhaal (Rumored as Harvey Dent/Two-Face)
6. Phillip Seymore Hofman (Rumored as Penguin)
7. Ray Liota (Rumored as Moroni)
8. Bob Hoskins (Rumored as Penguin and Mob Boss Maroni)
9. Brad Dourif (Rumored as Doctor Jerimiah Arkham)
10. Liev Schreiber (Rumored as Harvey Dent/ Two-face)

These are the males that have been rumored to have parts that are not the Joker in the BATMAN BEGINS' sequel.

As for the dropped Joker canidate, I'm going to have to say it's Bettany.

FRONTRUNNERS
1. Lachy Hulme
2. Paul Bettany
----------------
3. Hugo Weaving
4. Jude Law
5. Micheal Keaton

Paul is probably looking to not be type casted...he's been the villain in I believe 3 or 4 films in a row now.

I'm pretty sure it's Gyllenhal. It can't be any of the other contenders. Hugh Jackman and Jude Law have already done comic boom movies, and they don't scream Joker to me. Lucas can't act. Guy Pearce said he'd never do a comic book movie. Hoffman and Hoskins are not candidates for obvious reasons. Liotta's too old, and I don't think he's ever been rumored. He's just been the fan favorite for Maroni. Dourif's too old. And Schreiber IS Harvey Dent but he's not right for The Joker at all.

Sadly, I'm afraid it is probably Bettany that is out of the running. If it is indeed true, I'm making Gyllenhal my top choice.

Also, I don't think that Keaton and Weaving were real candidates. Just incredibly weak rumors. Law has never been mentioned as a candidate for anything but Dent.

That last one is so Brokeback, it's not funny

Ya know, if I had to guess, I'd say Bettany is the one tossed out of the running for Joker. Frankly, I'm glad. The guy is being stereotyped as a crazy villain, and I don't want Joker to be like any villain we've seen before. Something tells me if Bettany takes it, we'll see something pretty similar to his white-skinned killer in The Da Vinci Code.

And, it sounds like it could be either Jake Gyllenhaal or Jude Law stepping into Bettany's void. If you ask me, either could be a fantastic Joker. Personally, I'd give the edge to Jake, but both could be so badass in the role, delivering villains like audiences haven't seen. Both could bring Joker to life. Jude Law was a great, creepy villain in Road to Perdition, and Gyllenhaal sold me on his chops in the scene where he went nuts in Jarhead. Either could handle this role.

Gyllenhaal:

That said, though, I still have my fingers crossed that Tim Roth's name will come up again.

I think Eccleston deserves at least a screen-test, personally i think the new front runner could indeed be either Robin Williams or Jake Gyllenhall.
As for 1 of the front runners being out, i'd prefer it to be Hulme rather than Bettany.
At this point though who knows maybe WB have pushed hard enough to get a "name" for the running, i'm thinking Johnny Depp here.

I hope it's Gyllenhal filling Bettany's void, if it is indeed Bettany who is out.

NO NO NO NO!!!!!! Bettany is out and the new name being tossed around is Christoper Eccleston remember....
This actor has been rumored for a part in this film previously, but not for The Clown Prince of Crime. More on all of this later, so stay tuned!

I know Gylennhaal was up for Batman, but I mean let's be honest who looks more like a Joker canidate???

you do the math!!!!!

I wouldnt mind seeing Jake in this movie he's a good actor and it would be a good bold choice. As for whose dropped out I hope its not Bettany but Law is a good choice too

Yeah Gyllenhall just screams JOKER.................................................and Joel Schumacer and that's not becuase he was in brokeback, if anything Jake should be rumored for that part of Balck mask if anything!!!!1

I hope it isn't him, too.

People need to get over this thing about Jake in brokeback. He's got a great lineup of work (Donnie Darko, October Sky,The Good Girl, Jarhead, Day After Tommorrow) and what he has proven is that he is not a "teen pin up" by any strech dude has shown versatilty. I could definetly see him as Joker off the strength of Donnie Darko you know.

I don't doubt Gyllenhall's ability but personally i don't think he should get the role, i can't envision the Joker as a pretty boy.

Out of him and Eccleston i'd have to pick Chris Eccleston, just looking at him shouts Joker! Hopefully he is in for the running as should Adrien Brody, both can play creepy an psychotic very well.

I was hopeing he would be close on Hulmes tail till the end, but everything seems to indicate that he's out. I would of perfered Bettany over Eccleston anyday!!!

I also felt he was one of the few good things about The Day After Tomorrow.

The rumor states that the new candidate is someone who was already rumored for a different BB2 role, not a BB1 role. That leaves Eccleston out, as he was never rumored for Harvey Dent, Penguin, Black Mask, or Maroni.

Most likely it's Gyllenhaal thats in, and it's not a bad choice. I could see him as Joker. I still favor Bettany though, and I'm gonna hold on to hope that he could still land the role. Yes, it seems less likely now, but there's still hope.

Adrian Brody has a better chance of being in the next rambo sequel then he has of being the Joker!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: Heh. Katsuro got to it first.

In any case, since I've never been a very large supporter of Bettany, it would be entirely amusing to me if he ended up on the short end of the stick. Especially with so many here have been acting as if he's already been cast.

Good point. Basically its either Jake Gyllenhall or Guy Pearce who's in. But i's still prefer Chris Eccleston over all.:)

The article said someone who has been rumored for a character in this film. Eccleston hasn't been rumored for anything but the Joker in BB2.

oh yeah sorry my mistake, I admit I read that wrong. Well anyway does it really materr who the 2nd canidate is? I mean the role was Lachy's from day 1, I mean when the director himself is on your side what more do you want!

If Bettany doesn't get the role I promise I will buy the DVD (in a couple years when it comes out) and splice in pictures of Bettany every time the Joker appears and then sell it on eBay as the RENEGADE CUT of BB2.

That's true i have'nt seen anything with Hulme in it, but if Nolan says he's for real then i'll take his word for it.

that's what I've been trying to tell all the Hulem haters. Obvioulsy Hulme is everything Nolan want's in the Joker for this triology and just becuase he done a couple of movies does not mean he can't pull it off.

Man, StorminNorman's gonna cry when he sees this thread.

Of course, we shouldn't be too hasty in throwing Bettany out. Yes, it seems likely, but it's not certain. First of all, I just noticed that where it says "may not be in the mix any longer" on BOF, the word may is italicized. So it's not definite that a name has been thrown out. Second of all, they didn't say who it is that's not in the mix. It's possible that Hulme had his screentest, and it wasn't very good so they're no longer considering him. Yeah, it's mostly wishful thinking, but so what? Until it's flat out said that Bettany isn't in the running, he's still my favorite. And if/when that happens, then Gyllenhaal is my pick.
