Finally, Some Scuttlebutt!
Author: Jett
Friday, September 15, 2006 - 7:36 PM: Finally some rumors worth running with for y'all. Trust me, I get tons of "scoops" everyday. However, what I've got today is from people I know and trust, so I decided to pass it along to y'all. Remember, this is nothing official, just the "inside scuttlebutt" I've heard of late...
As I imagined, the production of THE DARK KNIGHT is under the highest of security. There’s been nary a word about the production since the title and Heath Ledger would be playing The Joker was announced. Honestly, this is the quietest it has been since the end of BATMAN BEGINS‘ theater run...
The word is that Liev Schreiber is not/no longer in the mix to play Harvey Dent -- which I hope is not true because he’s long been my fave for the part…
Now some of you all will dig this -- sort of blast from the past, so to speak. Guy Pearce’s name has popped up again as a candidate for Harvey Dent. Methinks his past association with Chris Nolan (MEMENTO) is again at the root of this rumor. I do think Pearce would be a nice choice, but I'm not holding my breath…
The talk is that more official casting news will come soon, perhaps around the time THE PRESTIGE is released to cash in on the hype. And that works vice versa as well -- you know what I mean? So keep an ear to the wall around the middle of October. A reminder, only Bat-Movie news will be featured on this page. Make sure to check out and bookmark the following link for all other BATMAN NEWS.

So it looks like we have some good news and some bad news. On one hand, Guy Pierce may actually be in the running for Harvey Dent, which would be awesome, but on the other hand, Schreiber might unfortunatley not be out. Personally, Schreiber is my favorite for the role, but if Schreiber doens't get it, I would be totally happy with Pierce.

Then again, this might not even be true, hopefully it's not.

Screw Schreiber. If this turns out to be true, I will be hysterical beyond words.

I'm serious. I will completely launch into "Psycho Kermit" mode.

Thanks. I dont mind Guy Pierce and we completely forgot about this guy who was rumored long ago.

Damn that Phillipe rumor is getting closer and closer to reality.

Well only one guy going to get it, and there's tons of good candidates for Harvey so im not all that disappointed that Liev is out of the running if its true.

It's Guy ****ing Pearce.

Great if it's true. Pearce was always my favorite candidate. I would be fine with Schreiber but.......PEARCE DAMMITT!!!

Pierce is one of the few people that could get the role over Schreiber and not make me upset. Aside from Pierce, there's not a single other "fan favorite" I'd like in the role. Gyllenhaal, Phillipe, Phoenix, Owen, none of them strike me as being right for both Dent AND Two-Face.

Maybe Owen if his voice wasn't so... i dont know how to describe it... overdramatic? I liked him in Sin City, cuz his voice fit the kind of surreal, comic-book world, but i dont think it would fit in Batman Begins (yes i know it's a movie based on a comic book, but the style of the film is nothing like Sin City). I also saw his brief cameo in The Pink Panther where he had the same, overdramatic voice (he played a James Bond-like character, so it also fit). Haven't seen Inside Man yet, though the DVD is sitting on the desk in front of me. I'll probably post again after watching it if my opinion of him changes. But as of now, unless he can lose that voice, I cant see him as Dent.

So for me, it's either gotta be Pierce, Schreiber, or another surprise like Ledger who I haven't even thought of.

Didn't Pearce state he had no interest in doing a comic book movie?

Pierce would be great.

Guy's been my top pick since I heard someone mention him for Harvey Dent (and thats been awhile back). And although I do like the idea of Phoenix, Pierce is still my first choice.

Got a link? I think he did say that but I'm not sure.

And Heath Ledger "****ing hates" comic book movies.

;)

I believe I read somewhere that he did say that, but I dont think it would take Nolan long to convince Guy he's the guy for the job. :yay:

Nolan: "Listen, Guy. I know you are not overly fond of comic book based films, but I believe you are exactly the right guy for this character, Harvey Dent. Please allow me to convice you ..."

Pierce: "Oh, what the hell. I'll take it."

It will go something like this:

PEARCE: ''I'm not interested in comic book movies, no. Except this one, in wich I'm starring, wich will be GREAT!''

Phoenix bana or pierce, Hmm... I will go with phoenix, but bana and pierce would be great choices also.

Hmm I never thought of Bana before. Interesting.

lol! Yeah you and me both buddy  Guy owns, I never really considered him for Dent til I found out he was cast as Dent in some scrapped scenes of BB but yeah, definately my favourite candidate. And good use of Kermit. Your avatar kicks butt.

Pierce was always my second choice after Schreiber. If Pierce gets the role, I'll be a very happy man. One thing is for sure:

Guy Pierce >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ryan Philippe

Pierce would be a nice choice as Harvey Dent/Two-Face.

I just don't see Pierce in this role. He's a wonderful actor, but I just cannot see him as Two-Face. Dent, maybe. Two-Face, no.

Eric Bana if not for that boring Hulk would be good as Harvey Dent but he seems to be wanting to collaborate with Tom Cruise and is the fans favorite and TPTB for Metal Gear as Solid Snake. Guy Pierce is better than Phillippe. Love him in L.A. Confidential.

I'd be a happy boy if this turns out to be true. Two great actors who hate comic flicks in a flick about one of the most popular comic characters ever created. AWESOME.

Oh-oh the Guy Pearce rumors reappear.:ninja:
If its true i'll be happy if he accepts because i think he'd do a great job. However if he doesn't i'd understand seeing how vocal about his dislike for comic book movies.

Until i see something more solid i'm going to take this with a grain of salt though.

PEARCE/BATMAN QOUTES

JH: You starred in Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed film, MEMENTO. Now word is he may direct a BATMAN film. Have you two talked about you possibly trying on that character. Would that hold any interest for you?
GP: I don’t think so. (laughs)

JH: Not in your nature to do a superhero movie?
GP: Not at this stage in my life. If I was ever going to do it, Chris Nolan would be the person I would do it with. But no we haven’t had any of those discussions.

Now given that experience, one would have thought that he would be more than reluctant to take on, say, Batman. Another of those internet rumours it appears. "Well it never even came about. I never spoke to Chris about it, there was never any thought about it. I heard about it through the Internet and went 'Oh that could be sort of interesting'. If I was ever to do a Batman it would be with Chris Nolan, But it was funny, as I almost felt like I was experiencing a bit of that without even having to go to work. It was kind of a nice rumour I guess."

Pearce and Cave have become collaborators - the latter has written an Australian western, The Proposition, which Pearce starts filming this month. Two Brothers aside, he regards it as his first real plunge back into acting after his period of reassessment, and it illustrates his credo: indies good, would-be blockbusters (usually) bad. Rumours linking him to Christopher Nolan's new Batman film, Batman Begins, always looked wide of the mark.

"I could probably cope with some rubber-suit **** if someone like Chris was doing it, but someone I didn't really dig? F--- it. Those studio movies are not my arena. I don't need a ton of money. We just bought the house next door to ours in Melbourne and we're going to expand, but it was pretty expensive, so it's like, 'OK! Back to work!' But not to do the biggest, dumbest thing in the world."

Q: There’s one big studio film that your name keeps getting attached to, and I’m sure you’ve heard this a million times – Batman 2.

Pearce: [laughs]

Q: Is this just the kind of usual BS that goes around when a movie is getting prepared? Or have you been in touch with Christopher Nolan about it?

Pearce: There’s certainly no talk on my end, and no one has approached me about it. It feels like a repeat of when Chris did the first Batman, because once people knew he was doing the first one they automatically associated any actor who’d worked with him before and obviously Memento is a fairly prominent film in Chris’ history. So I seemed to come up. And literally it was one of those cases where a friend called me up and said, ‘I saw on the internet that you’re going to play Batman.’ ‘What? Really?’

It happened again a couple of weeks ago when I was in the States doing publicity for The Proposition. A few journalists mentioned it to me, but I hadn’t heard anything about it.

Q: Your name is one that fans keep bringing up. Is that flattering to you, that you’re someone they would like to see in one of the iconic villain roles?

Pearce: Oh, yeah. Absolutely. I can’t ignore that the people respect stuff that I’ve done or what I could do. That’s really flattering, absolutely. But unless Chris and the producers have talked about it and haven’t gotten to me yet – which I don’t think is the case!
