^Well, we are the flyover states. I remember one episode of the now defunct Unhappily Ever After sitcom where the parents are helping their son name all the states, and they can easily name New York and California, but the son is like, "what's all that in the middle?" And the mom responds, "the reason Touched By An Angel is a hit."

Quite honestly, I live in DC, and I've not heard of it until now, so I don't know how enormous pre-release publicity and marketing could have been.

Well, Middle America has a reputation of being stubborn-headed rednecks with very simple worldviews. Not saying that this is necessarily true, but that is how they are viewed.
