Of course she would. She can't comprehend a life that came from her womb could do this. Both lives that came from her womb. But too bad, mom. They did. The only one in this family who keeps it real is Uncle Ruslan. Everyone else seems to be falling back on conspiracy theories and trying to blame others.

The parents and aunt are probably in denial or shock. It must be hard to comprehend how by all accounts these two normal guys could become terrorists over what looks like a short period of time.

Yeah denial is a weird thing. They'll come around. It will be hard for them though. Chances are they have no involvement with the stuff the two sons were into so our thoughts should be with them as well even if they did create them. It's gotta be tough.

Parents never think their kids did it, even if they see them doing it. It's basically saying to them, "I am a complete failure as a parent", even though other things can lead to people turning into this.

If your son commits an atrocity it also means there's some severe flaw in your genes that could produce something so abhorrent. So there's that too.

Put yourself in her shoes though. If it was me, of course i'd want to see the evidence. I dont think people should fault the family for feeling this way, especially if these guys werent exactly the type you'd think would do something like this in the first place. It must be very difficult for them. Seeing the evidence hopefully clears all doubts. But i dont think this is something one can totally get over. Imagine how it would feel if a relative of yours did something like this.

The thing about the aunt is that she also helped the family come to the US as refugees, so in a sense, you have to imagine that she would feel some guilt if it turns out to be true, that is assuming she had no involvement herself.

Not necessarily. Are you implying every action we make or don't make is gene related? I guess there's an argument for that but I highly doubt that's true.

Your parents could have been jerks and you end up being a nice guy who helps others or vice versa. Sometimes genetics do limit you, but ultimately you create who you are through your own choices. These guys CHOSE to get into this radical stuff, which doesn't necessarily reflect a thing about their parents. Look at their uncle. He's related by blood but seems to get the whole picture better than anybody.

I'm not really implying that. But as a parent you can't escape the thought that something in your genetic pattern produced something so evil. I'm not commenting on the science, but rather what the parent's thought process might be.

You know I was going to make a comment in here about how I can understand what she's saying. I also feel like she feels cornered by this media making these allegations about these kids she's known longer than any of us.

I think their family is coming off as far too stand-offish right now, though. I also feel that attitude comes from because some of them come from overseas and they feel targeted for not being natural citizens. Just my 2 cents, though.
