BOUGHT/THOUGHT for 8/29/07!

The first series was a series of one shots that aren't really connected at all. This debut issue was excellent. The artwork is great, but it's so much like Ottley's it's a bit weird to get past. Brown's story is every bit as humorous and fun as one of Kirkman's Invincible scripts.

I didn't know much about Brit from his INVINCIBLE appearences, aside for him being some rough-an'-tumble guff who was super-strong and nigh invulnerable, and worked for the government. But then there's that erge to save money that factored in this week, too. I don't remember whether I saw it on the rack of my LCS either.

AMAZONS ATTACK:

So I said okay it's the last issue, I guess I'll flip through it just to know what happened.

This was the single worst decision I have ever made. Like, I've previously described hearing about this comic as being like getting stabbed in the brain? Well it turns out actually reading this comic is like being ****ed through my frontal lobe with a dick made out of razor blades. Joe Kelly and Jeph Loeb could collaboratively write a thousand century's worth of Supergirl comic books, and all of those comic books combined would still not equal this comic in pure vulgar ****tacularity. On a scale of 10, negative several hundred million. I write this not as a review but as a warning, should you find yourself tempted as I was, I pray thee brother stay strong, for the fate that awaits should you relent is one worse than every single other horrible fate to which a human being could ever be subjected.
Concise.

It was called CIVIL WAR: CASUALTIES OF WAR I believe with Cap & Iron Man meeting secretly after the events of CW #4 or so. It brought up a slew of past events and just made both sides seem justified, which few writers in CW did, either supporting one or the other. It was a bright spot in the event that showed had a writer with a better sense of finesse than Millar been on CW, it would have worked a whole lot better.

The irony is that it was one of those titles that only shipped because the main CW mini was running late, but I considered it essential reading.
That actually doesn't sound too bad. I almost wish I'd read it, but I'd sworn off everything CW by that point.
I have a question about Teen Titans #50 (I haven't gotten my comics yet), do Cyborg, Jericho, and Raven leave the team like the covers imply?
Yes, the adult Titans have all left the building as of this issue. They make it clear in a few pages where the adult Titans are leaving the memorial. Raven tells Supergirl she's looking forward to high school, implying she'll be focusing on that, Jericho's still inhabiting Match's body to keep him under control, and... actually, I don't think it was clear on what Cyborg is doing. But he does say something like, "We're leaving the Titans without supervision."

Apparently, Brit's not super strong. Just invulnerable. And now, as of issue #1, dead. :(

I can't believe nobody bought/thought Mice Templar #1 yet... :cmad: :cmad: :cmad:

Mine's still waiting in my pull box...

:csad:

I haven't read my copy yet. After my first few comics and dinner, I started watching the first season of Entourage and then I had to go to bed. :(

Today at lunch I'll probably read it.

I just finished it. It's pretty perfect.

People can compare this to Mouse Guard all they want, but when you actually sit down to read it, it's not the same story at all. This goes much deeper, and the mythology is magnificant. It draws from Norse as well as Celtic mythologies. The god of all gods is Wotan, one of many names of Odin. It's hinted that his form in this story is that of an owl and it makes more then enough sense to me. To a mouse, an owl is creature to be both feared and respected. But that's for future issues, I suppose...

This one's kicks off with the story of the fall of the Templar, a group of warrior mice sworn to uphold truth and protect all innocent life in the lands. At some point, there was a disagreement and the Templar warred with each other before apparently vanishing altogther. Even now, most mice do not even believe in their existence. We're intoduced to the main cast of Pilot the Tall, Karic, Deishun, Gabrielle and Leito. Deishun is the grizzled town blacksmith with Leito as his apprentice and Karic the friend of Leito. Gabrielle is also a childhood friend of Leito and Karic, who takes the role of Maeven (a female archer) when the three play Templar. The main story begins when Pilot, and old Templar veteran comes to town to warn of an impending rat raid. These rats are nasty. Oeming's design is amazing. Anyway, they've come to town looking for Deishun and like any good group of villians, they kill and burn anything in sight to find him.

I won't spoil the rest, but the ending is very good, and sets up the series perfectly. There's a lot carnage and a lot of blood in this title, which is more than a little jarring when it's pouring out of cute little mice. It's well worth the $4 (especially when you consider this debut issue features 50 pages of story, and virtually no ads). It's beautifully drawn and put togther.

I'll be trade waiting on Mouse Templar, sounds very good so far.

You'll be waiting for a while, then. This is a bimonthly book.

Entourage is pretty good up until you realize you're watching Sex and the City for guys. It's still pretty good after that, just in a way where you're kind of embarrased to be watching it.

I've accepted it. It's got loads of flaws, especially in the current season, but there's usually at least a couple of things that entertain me in every episode. That's good enough for me.

Avengers: The Initiative #5

There should be no doubt that Dan Slott is currently putting out the best comic to have Avengers in its title. As many have already mentioned Dan utilizes all kinds of corners of the Marvel Universe, we see the Order, the New Warriors tag, references to events in Iron Man and a pretty seamless blending with the time line of World War Hulk.

Kind of puts Bendis to shame that he couldn't keep continuity straight between two measly titles (Mighty/New), especially when they are histitles.

In any case, Slott pretty much establishes Trauma has a bit of a bad-ass. This is impressive considering I snickered when Gauntlet called him emo-boy back in issue 1. Now if only Marvel could make Wraith as bad ass...

I really love the direction he's taking the character and look forward to seeing whats in store for him.

5/5

World War Hulk: X-Men #3

This title was designed to do one thing. Deliver X-Men vs. Hulk action. This series has pretty much done that. There have of course been plot holes and logic flaws but with a concept like this you have to at least be ready for some serious suspensions of disbelief. Putting Gage and DiVito on this was a stroke of genius, they keep the action moving fast and hard so that it never feels bogged down by the sum of its parts.

I was going to give this issue a 3/5, but the return of Juggernaut (the real Juggernaut) and matching the Hulk toe-to-toe put a real smile on my face so:

4/5

Black Panther #30

Yes, I'll admit it. I'm only reading Black Panther because of the current Zombie story. I'm part of the problem. Yes, I know.

Anyway, its been a pretty fun storyline for me. The Fantastic Four pretty much beat their Skrull counterparts and then manage to run away when the Marvel Zombies arrive on scene thanks to another attack of conscious from Spider-Man which provokes a remark from Wolverine, "You and your whinin'" that I laughed at.

Then they decide to try and eat the planet at the suggestion of the Hulk of all people and the issue ends with the fate of the FF unknown. Not much else happens but if you're a fan of Marvel Zombies then you should enjoy it for what it was.

3/5

A blatant and pointless attempt to capitalize on the popularity of the current zombie boom in comics rather than tell good Black Panther stories? :oldrazz:

I already admitted to being part of the problem! What more do you want from me?! :(

I'll send them. They'll be arriving in the mail in 2-3 business days.
