BOUGHT/THOUGHT for September 19, 2007

You decided to stop reading a great book purely because Strange got hit by Hulk?

There is fanboy, and then there is fanboy!!
It was very nearly the stupidest thing I've ever read in my life, and unlike many I have absolutely no trouble dropping books that tell me stupid things.

It's not like I'm missing much. What's gonna happen next? Sentry stops whining like a comatose crack****e and finally does something? If he wins, it's boring. If Hulk wins, it's stupid. Either way, we lose. All that's left for the event to give me is pretty pretty pictures, and I could get those anywhere.

Circle of heartbreak. You know how excited I got over Gotham Underground? It sounded like a more superhero/supervillain-driven successor to Gotham Central, which is one of my favorite series ever. Then, of course, I learn Frank ****ing Tieri is writing it. It was like getting shot in the face. Or like what I imagine getting shot in the face would be like, at any rate.

Agree to disagree and all that. I just think your opinion explempifies what is wrong with fans these days. They can't appreciate a good book because of their stupid fanboy hangups.

WWH's not really a good book by any stretch of the imagination, though. It promised to be an action-packed slugfest but we've mostly gotten really short fights where the Hulk utterly dominates whomever he's fighting or is knocked around a bit by whomever he's fighting before coming back and utterly dominating them anyway. Fights get less interesting if their outcomes are obvious.

The story's not exactly stellar, either. It's kind of sad that Planet Hulk, which was a good story, has led to WWH. I hope the third part of Pak's trilogy is back up to PH standards.

Well I think your face is what's wrong with fans these days. HOW'S THAT!

Dude, who even cares? It's issue four of a five-issue limited series. Marvel and Pak can cry like babies about it all the way to their bank with their lots and lots of money that other people are giving them.

As for whether or not it's a good book? Open to interpretation. I liked it in general, but there were glaring annoyances in every issue. This one just happened to be the breaking point for me.

Do comic book writers, even guys like Benids and Pak, even earn that much??

Doubt it. Should we then buy comics based on how impoverished the creators are?

I do. Marvel and DC can afford me to flip through their books without buying them. But if I'm interested in an indie book, I'll buy it to support their art.

Psssh. Can't they find some real jobs or something.

Why does any business that provides a service or goods struggle? Low consumer demand. Does that make it not a real job? No, it just makes it a harder job.

Hobos usually do. And everyone knows indie comics are written by hobos.

Which means that I'm really bad at being a prick which means I'M AWESOME oh god I didn't even see this before.

No, it means you're really good at being the worst kind of prick.

I love how photo can suck ANYONE into a three page conversation.
