Bought/Thought, June 18th, 2008

The one I go to gets the best comic selection of the handful in my area. I could special-order them or go online, but that's just more hassle. The trade is the easiest solution.

Fair enough. It's the same story, no matter the format. And it's a damn good story.

How many issues? It's like $19 for the trade, which is a lot if it's only 6 issues...

That's how long the series was. Does the trade include the FCBD story?

Amazon says it has "bonus stories." Maybe the FCBD issue is one of them. It's 180 pages, though, which is like 8 issues' worth of pages. Eh, Amazon's got it for like 30% off anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just have your shop order it and avoid the shipping costs?

My shop would charge me full price with only a 10% discount, whereas I get 30% off at Amazon and it qualifies for free shipping if I order a few more things and get the total price over $25. There's plenty I'd like to buy from Amazon, so the latter works out as a better deal for me.

Sweet. I don't usually order from Amazon. Lone Star Comics has the best deals on teh interet, as far as I've seen.

I bought the hardcover, only because I own ALL the other zombie stuff. It's worth reading to see how the story ends, but v1 was 4000x better
The issues were the same price as the hardcover, so I got the issues for the covers.

Ive been meaning to pick up "Marvel Zombies: Dead Days", is that any good?

****ing no. :cmad: "Bonus stories" means the b-stories that were in the individual issues.

I downloaded that ****. I figure what the hell are they gonna, complain? It's got "free" right there in the name.

Ha, that's a good point. If you're already one of the comic-buying masses, there's really nothing wrong with downloading the FCBD comics, come to think of it. The main purpose of FCBD is to get new readers into comic shops.

What's the point of downloading the FCBD stuff anyhow? Just go to the damn shop, you lazy ass! :cmad:

My shop was out of like 90% of this year's FCBD stuff when I went. They'd resorted to putting last year's FCBD stuff and random issues of Dazzler and Defenders out for the people still coming in. They said they got slammed super-hard this year, probably because of the Iron Man movie, and that their supplies for this year were gone within about 3 hours of opening.

Sometimes. :( The guys who run it are nice, but the owner's gotta look at the almighty dollar, and mainstream stuff sells while everything else really, really doesn't around here.

Well, you'd be wrong if you did. I've read plenty by Howard Mackie. Hell, I grew up with Howard Mackie writing Spider-Man and Ghost Rider. While I didn't always like the overall storylines in Amazing Spider-Man, they were still readable. They kept the kept the characterization of the characters intact. I mean, Gale's scripts are literally unreadable to me. They are so campy and stupid that they make the Adam West Batman series look like I Stand Alone. It's terrible. It's not fun. There can be light-hearted Spider-Man stories without resorting to complete stupidity. Gale obviously doesn't realize this.

Oh, and Mackie's Ghost Rider was awesome. :o

There is nothing readable about Hackie's scripts.

Gale sucks plenty (though I think the McKone issues were alright), but Hackie was, by and large, the worst Spider-Man writer of all time. OMD is Shakespearean compared to "Aunt May was a DNA-altered actress". :whatever:

My shop must be weird, then. A lot of the indie stuff sells better than the mainstream stuff.

In your opinion Gale is not worse than Mackie. In mine he is. Uh oh, I smell subjectivity! :wow:

I still wanna know what you found so terrible about this week's ASM.

**** you, Saturday is me-time.

Bought: Trinity #2 and #3, Superman and Batman #49, Old Man Logan and Sinestro Corps War vol. 2

Thought:

Loving Trinity, the only problem is I hardly see the 3 characters on the covers in there own book. Kinda bothers me but overall its nice, oh and by the way this JLA sucks total ass.

Superman/Batman is pretty much the best book im reading right now considering how unique the story is, im lovin every aspect of this book ALOT, ecspecially digging the art. They finished off the Kryptonite story and I have to admit that seeing that room in the Bat-cave was a bit of a shocker but i figured that is what would happen. Glad to see that Batman is that prepared considering there are actually 4 Kryptonians running around it would take alot of K to bring them all down.

Wolverine/Old Man Logan was really cool I love alternate futures/realities. If done right they can be so much fun. I loved reading this, the art is amazing and it was awesome to see Millar at what I consider Top form agian. Love the way this started, my only marvel book im reading right and prolly will be the one i continue to buy.

Sinestro Corps War Vol. 2 was decent conclusion to a overall mediocre story. Hal was not nearly the focus I thought he would be but then again he was in it enough to bear. Sodam Yat was a loser i mean seriously he relied more on his Daxam strength than he did the ION power, what a total waste of supposedly the greatest power in the universe. He did'nt do really anything to further the story and just had alot of panels of him getting his ass beat, sorry that was no fun to read. I wont even go into the Parallax jar of nasties basically they story set up ALOT for "In Blackest Night" so that thing better be damn ****ing good. What is Guy an Honor Lantern for anyone?

Look forward to Trinity next week. Man I cant get over that cliffhanger.

What is Guy an Honor Lantern for anyone?
I don't understand the question. Are you asking why Guy's an Honor Lantern? If so, it's because he's easily one of the most experienced GLs on the new Corps and he has a penchant for finding unorthodox solutions to problems normal GLs can't handle.

Amazing Spider-Man #563 - Not bad. Not bad at all. It's not as good as Peter Parker: Paparazzi, but it's fun stuff. 3.5/5

Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four #2 - This is such a good Secret Invasion tie-in. I really enjoyed Johnny's reaction with Lyja. Good stuff. 4/5

Trinity #3 - I am having SO much fun with this title. I love Busiek and Bagely, and this was another great issue. Although it didn't really feature much of the Trinity, it was fun seeing Konvikt fighting the JLA and I really enjoyed the backup story. 4.5/5
