BOUGHT/THOUGHT Thread for 6/21/06: SPOILERS Inside!

Oh please, it wasn't that bad. It was hardly Kingdom Come or anything, but far worse has come out lately.

Its more like The Kingdom.

That's being a bit harsh.

The problem with Flash is that it has a SERIOUS legacy to come from, and it didn't do it.

I'm sticking around at least to see who's wearing the red suit. We'll see from there.

I've never been a Flash fan anyway, and his history is confusing as hell (Wally, Jay, Bart, Barry, etc.)
I can't follow that much history :(

It honestly won't kill you to miss it. It's one of the weaker OYL's. Nightwing was far worse, though.

Barely.

There's been like, 4 of them.
I'm used to Batman and Superman, who have been one person (mostly... Azrael and the Reign of the Superman excepted)
I also haven't read any Flash comics before (not even Waid's or Johns' runs) so I'd be pretty lost.
When all those Flashes tackled Superboy Prime in Infinite Crisis I got confused because I thought they were all dead or something

It's a Legacy thing. The first was Jay in the 40's. Then came Barry. Wally was Kid Flash, then barry died and Wally became Flash. Bart is Barry's grandson, he was Impulse, then changed his name to Kid Flash. Wally retired after he had twins, and I guess Bart moved up to Flash. Not that hard to understand.

Ultimates 2 #11-A huge step up from the "quiet after the storm" that was #10.Great action, suspense, surprise, and mystery. The pacing is fast and I love it,there's no reason for it to move slowly considering the magnitude of the story.Looking forward to what Iron Man,Thor and the Euros have in store.Hulk showing up at the end was so OHHH ****!!!!Once again,Cap is badass with no fear.Hitch's art was ON as usual and Neary's inks were heavy when needed for those big and bold splashes. An easy 10/10.

Justice #6-Things are starting to make sense here.Turns out the "dream" was Grodd's way of convincing the other villains to help them out in their plan. This book just screams classic, all of the JLAers get equal face time and Ross' art is just jaw dropping.Supes flying out of the sun was just amazing.I'm also convinced that Wonder Woman is one tough *****.Poor Hal though....10/10

New Avengers #20-This book has had highs and lows. The Collective storyline has been the book at it's highest point in my eyes.Old school super-heroics with so much at stake.Nothing real thought provoking here, just straight up action all the way through, and I loved it.Good to see Quake and Sentry save the day even though Mags is still alive for sure.I didn't get the whole Xorn thing either, but oh well.Deodato's art is so awesome, very bold and dynamic.I'm pretty sure that was the Void Sentry saw in the sun, very cool nod.Sad to see this team break up,but **** happens.7/10

Iron Man #9-So it turns out Tony is nuts and has been negatively affected by the Extremis. This storyline has been awesome so far, very cinematic and epic. The Knaufs' totally get the dialogue right, especially the conversations between Fury and Stark. The action was well drawn showing how kick-ass that armor is.Too bad we didn't get to see the New Avengers reaction to what was happening, but at least we know Sentry is going to be playing clean up.8/10

Captain America #19-I started picking this book up at #9 and I'm glad I'm not lost at all.I have yet to pick up the first trade, but clearly understand everything that's at stake. This is definitely going to be Bru's end of the 2 year storyline with everything coming to a head in London.Epting's depiction of the action was great, especially that shot of Cap jumping out of the car.Looking forward to see where Bucky will end up at the end of all this.8/10

I also browsed through the Giant Size Hulk quickly. It's pretty obvious that Hercules will make it up to the Hulk when he comes back to Earth and stand by him.

I'm too damn lazy to post an actual review, but my 2 top picks were NA & Justice, probably because I'm a big Grodd ****e but hey. This time around I want to see them do some permanent damage before they have their asses handed to them. Maim, cripple, rape, kill, just anything that'll make a statement across DC. My one gripe with Justice is there needs to be a little more humor, I mean when Deathstroke and Black Skull are arguing on the roof in Batman and BS is complaining about how old Captain Nazi is and then Deathstroke says Hyena looks like a girl from the back, that was priceless. Aside from that small complaint, it's been a damn good week.

*Shrugs*

When my bro was there, he took his laptop (which I think still has sand in it), and I used to send him DVDs a couple times a week, mostly stuff off of tv. I tried sending him digital comics, but I didn't really have the software at the time to make it in a format that's practical. And I didn't know there were places that you could download them. I was wondering, roach, if you might like us to send you some comics on DVD from time to time? If so, PM us your APO when you get one. (This offer isn't exclusive to roach. I know deemar325 is in the military, also, Army if I recall. And I'm sure there must be other guys here as well.)

I mean, what the hell. It beats racing scorpions, right. (Actually, that does sound cooler doesn't it.)

wow I dont know what to say. That maybe the biggest offer of generosity I have ever seen. Perhaps there is hope for humanity. I'll send the address as soon as I know it.

Its awe-inspiring.

To be honest, roach, of all the things that I don't miss about my bro being there, that's the only thing that I do miss, the packages that we sent. Between me, my mom, his wife and kids, my dad, my sister, not to mention friends, etc, my brother was easily the most spoiled soldier in Iraq! So it really would be a pleasure.

I used to be like that but Marvel just kept disappointing me. Someone here reccommended the Flash and after that every week my DC books increased while my Marvel ones got dropped. I came into DC at the begining of Identity Crisis and stayed ever since. I read Batman, Robin, Superman, Flash, Wonderwoman....and I am waiting for JLA, Shazam, Grant Morrison on Batman and Busiek on Superman with Pacheo(sp?)

Shazam eh??...that starting up soon ?....looks at pull list for same Marvel straggler

My earlier comment was mostly intended as a wrist-slap for someone who is going to condescend to others for their reading taste. While I personally don't find DC interesting, I don't exactly dislike it - I was simply giving the guy a taste of his own medicine to let him feel it in juxtaposition.

So there. :P

Don't bother, they'll just talk out of their asses like they always do.

just read eternals 1

wow. john romita jnr's work is amazing. all his male characters kinda look the same to me most of the time and so when blonde-guy talks to brown-haired-guy, forget the names, its just ben reilly and peter parker in my head. not too sure if thats a good thing, but i love it. the eternals seem to have been updated pretty well. i feared all-powerful beings beating up all-powerful beatings but especially with the way the story's structured [it seems the eternals have lost their memories, for the most-part, and tho immoral and powerful there's a sense of fragility] i think this is gona be a must-buy tpb when the mini-series is finally collected and completed.

oh and stay away from giant-sized hulk 1-shot. like FF:a death in the family, its really only worth buying if u dont have the great story they reprint. in this case hulk: the end. thats brilliant stuff right there, but its worth a read more than a buy. my advice: download it.

the captain marvel history is so sad. i cant believe theyre forced to call it "shazam" due to trademark laws and the such. DC's captain marvel is the original and should have a bigger standing in the comic-book world. i believe he's older than superman comic-book-history-wise, but i guess i better check with wikipedia...

Astonishing X-Men #15
I love Joss so much. He continues to be spot-on in writing the X-Men from every conceivable angle.

Everytime I hear someone whining about how much cat-Beast sucks, I feel inclined to shove issues like this into their faces. Moments like this, and moments like Astonishing #12 of Hank vs. Danger and issue #3 with the confrontation between Hank and Logan...in my mind, there's just no contest. With a simple design change Morrison turned Beast into one of the most intriguing X-characters, and Whedon took that ball and ran the hell out of it.

Favorite part of the issue has to be Hisako's powered up armor looking exactly like some 70s tokusatsu robot. Oh, and I loved the fact that Danger is teaming up with Ord. There's gonna be a smackdown with hell to pay, and I'm totally looking forward to it.

Ultimates 2 #11
I can't even begin to tell you how sick to death I am of Millar's "I'm gonna kick your ass, buddy boy!!" last page shots. At this point, it's like he's mocking himself. Seriously, you could stick up an entire book, and probably tell a funny story about it, filled solely with those damned last pages.

Other than that? Pretty good issue. The story feels kinda slow to me, but honestly that's probably because of how late this is coming out. I still hate every single one of these "heroes," mind you, but I can definitely appreciate some good old, mindless, pretty-lookin' violence:D.

52 Week 7
Lies! Scandal! Betrayal! Space giants! And hot lesbian action! Honestly, what else needs to be said?

I do feel sorry for Booster, though probably not nearly as much as they want me to. I think that the whole "Booster goes through tragedy and emerges a hero!" has kinda been covered already throughout OMAC Project and Infinite Crisis, though it is being covered a bit more intimately here with more attention to his hubris and pathos and all that. IMO he's currently prime candidate out of the five 52 leads to not make it to OYL alive, which would be very sad 'cause there's a lot of potential for his character right now.

Nu Batwoman is kinda one-dimensional, but she's only been around for one issue and for what it's worth, the writers have me interested in her and Renee's relationship. So that's good news.

All-Star Superman #4
Like I said when I first saw the cover to this issue...Superdickery to the MAX:D!

Speaking of the cover, can I just mention that instead of "If I can't get these crazy future weapons to work, I'm dead!" my brain just keeps on seeing "If I can't get these crazy f**king weapons to work, I'm dead!"?

Also, let's hear it for the quote of the month..."GAS MARK 5!"

And bringing up the Gypsy curse...hilarious. Love it. Keep on doing what you're doing, Morrison.

Flash #1
Copying and pasting from the DC forums thread...

I don't know what kind of crazy juice got pored into everyone's cornflakes this week, because I really liked this issue. There was a lot of respect for the past and also a lot of progression towards the future. The story was straightforward and easy to follow, and I cared a lot about Nu Bart and his whole emo deal.

Not sure what people are complaining about the art for, either; it looks fine to me. Hell, compared to some others that came out this week COUGHSHADOWPACTCOUGHWHEEZE it was like frikkin' Caravaggio.

Speaking of which.
Shadowpact #2
Consider this book dropped. I'm sorry, it's not really as horrible as I'm making it out to be but I was just utterly, completely bored. Both the art and the writing felt so juvenile, I felt like I was reading Johnny DC instead of Bill Willingham. Actually, I take that back; I've read several Johnny DC titles that were leagues and leagues more sophisticated than what I'm seeing here.

I beg to differ. While the back-up is the meat of the issue, the two new stories are a lot of fun. Oh, and comic downloading is NOT cool. :down
