Bourne 4...

I think it's time to give it a rest. Ultimatum was great and brought a satisfying closure to the series for now. And what Damon said about revisiting the character later on in life sounds intriguing. Hopefully, Greengrass and/or Limon will be on board if/when it becomes a reality.

"The Bourne Legacy", written by Eric van Lustbader, is about an elderly Carlos the Jackal (who was cut from the films because the real Carlos was in jail) with one last wish before he dies: kill Jason Bourne. Webb has become a history teacher, and the "Bourne identity" resurfaces follwing a murder attempt. He tries to find Alex Conklin (who survived all 3 Ludlum books), only to discover the Jackal killed him. So, David Webb basically assumes the Bourne persona full-time, to finish off Carlos once and for all.

Since carlos was cut from the films, and Conklin ws killed in the first one, then the only way I could see them adapting "Legacy" would be to either use a new villain, or have Vosen come after him again.

I would'nt mind seeing another one,but only if it made sence to the first 3. Seems after 3 they are just milking the franchise to death, and it ends up taking away from the whole series.
I liked the way they finished it up,and made it all come together almost unflawlessly..The onlything I really didn't like about the series was lot of the shaky camera action,it got so,so annoying.

I love the Bourne movie trilogy. What a great set of movies! All three are just solidly made and the continuous story of Bourne's past was consistently compelling. I'm planning to watch all three back to back this weekend, should be great.

Major props to the guys who put together three great movies. I can't say the same for other franchises like Spider-Man for one. :p If only they didn't shoot everything in shakycam so much the 2nd and 3rd would've been that much better.

Amen to that. I mean, what is the point of making an action movie with shakycam? Why go to an action movie if you can't see the action?

The "shakycam" is Paul Greengrass' signature technique. As such, my guess is he used it to display the story's frenetic and dangerous pace. Jason goes through the third film, not knowing what's about to happen. this effect helps the audience to identify with that.

"Batman Begins" used a similar motif, especially in the shipping scene, where he fought against Falcone's thugs.

I love the shaky camera. Ultimatum wouldn't have been as grabbing as it was without it.

Just FYI, there's now an Ultimate Collector's set with all three movies in it.

Also a 2 disc limited edition version of Bourne Ultimatum and a bonus disc of extras. The bonus disc extras don't look anything special though.

I was able to see the action just fine. The franticness of the camera matched accompanied the frantic rush of the movie, I felt.

But to each their own.

Shakycam is awesome. It gives you the feel that you're watching documentary footage that was shot on spot which brings it up to a level of believability that you couldn't achieve with a tripod. It worked in Saving Private Ryan, Blair Witch Project, 24 and the Bourne series. And it'll work again in Cloverfield.

I don't go to see an action movie to pretend i am watching a documentary and Ive seen all 6 seasons of 24 and they are nothing like Bourne, the camera shakes ALL the time in the 3rd one and the fights are edited like a man having an epileptic fit edited them.

The shakleycam goes only so far before it gets annoying. At least in 24 it does not shake the whole time. That second Bourne movie almost gave me motion sickness. I way prefer action and fight scenes to be shot so you see the action more clearly, but I'm not gonna complain about it, it was a creative decision.

I agree, it shaking during the dialogue is just stupid though. Anyway you're right about it being a creative decision i just wish everyone who loves it doesn't make like it serves some function, instead of just saying they enjoy it.

I never had a problem with the cinematography of either sequel, or following the action. It looked good to me.

It does though. It's meant to bring the viewers right into the movie, instead of just letting them sit back and enjoy it from a more secondhand perspective.

I don't think that's it's function, I think it's to make it look like a documentary and chase that ever annoying "realism" I was brought much more into Casino Royale and it just shot it's action in the way that served classics like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon, all it does for me is frustrate me and make me want to close my eyes until it's over, It's a shame as well b/c the stories and acting are very good.

It's just 3 episodes of "Bionic Woman", which looks super-lame :(

I think many directors think that the shaky cam forces the viewer to stare and pay more attention. Be more engaged with what's going on in front of you. Either way, it's got it's place, in some cases I love it (in fact it worked for most of the Bourne movies) but there are times you gotta pull back. Serenity/Firefly was shot with a constantly moving camera but it was way more subtle during dialog and when the bad guys were on the screen the cam was on a dolly or somehow stable to give those scenes an completely different feel.

Amen, brother.

Yeah, and the shaky cam although it didn't butcher the overall enjoyment of the movies, if the cam was steady ala BI, the fights would have been even better. Look at the fight in BI in the parisian apartment, that was excellent, now imagine if they shakey-cammed that! Ruined. BI is a movie that testifies that these movies did not need shakey-cam.

I must be among the few who absolutely LOVED the shaky cam in Ultimatum (not so much in Supremacy though). Not to mention that I think the fight scene in the Moroccon apartment is not only the best one in the series, but also one of the best in any film ever. Why? Because it does not look staged like the one in Identity. It's absolutely brutal, savage and relentless. The fighters don't take a breather to size themselves up, assuming some cheesy looking pose or trying flashy but unrealistic moves. They just go at it like animals, never stopping for a breather, using anything and everything they see to take each other out - exactly what I'd expect such skilled assassins to fight like if they were real. As for the shaky-cam and quick-cuts, it really gives the whole sequence a powerful kinetic energy and the manner in which it is filmed makes you feel as if you're actually there watching the whole fight take place before your very eyes...with your perspective struggling to keep up with the lightning pace of the combatants.

Viewed in this light, I think it is hard not to appreciate what Greengrass has accomplished.

Agreed 100% The fight mentioned above by fenrir, to me didn't even seem like a fight, it was just a mess of arms and legs, they coulda been making out rough stlye for all i know. :woot:

I don't know if you people are blind or anything, but I could make out the entire fight just fine. I'll even post a fully detailed transcript for all you vision-challenged people.

Nah, that's ok, maybe you just got super vision dude. i saw it with 5 ppl that all said the same but you dug it so that's gravy.
