Inspired by the trailer thread, I'm curious to see opinions are out there for which of the two will perform better at the BO. They come out two weeks apart in November, and both had their initial marketing push at the same time a few weeks ago.

What does it say about JL if Thor outperforms?
How big of an impact on the BO will Hulk and Strange provide?
With WW looking like an improvement, will audiences be more amped for JL?

Gunna be a fun November!

This is a toss-up. I could honestly see it going both ways.

Same here. Which is odd. If I had been asked this question about a year and a half ago (maybe less??), I would have said JL....and not even close. I think it will depend a lot on how good WW is. If it goes over well, I think JL will make more. If not.....hmmm.......

In theory it would be Justice League. In reality i could see it going to Thor Ragnarok.

Justice League has a lot of recent and unwanted baggage. BvS hurt the DCEU critically and Zack's Snyder vision is controversial but he's still back for JL. It looks more of the same but sprinkled with jokes lo lighten up the tone. Thor Ragnarok has also some unwanted baggage but on the other hand has a brand new and fresh look by the up and coming Taika Waititi. The teaser trailer was also extraordinarily well received acrossed the board with the general audience jumping on board of the hype train.

I put my vote in for Ragnarok because it it is my most anticipated film. But now I am second guessing myself. If JL maintains the same BO from BvS, Ragnarok will have to show a whopping 36% increase from T:TDW to win the head to head match up. If JL shows a 5% decline, Thor 3 will still have to go up 30% to beat the DC release. If JL shows any sort of increase over the prior Batman-Superman-Wonder Woman team up, Ragnarok is pretty much out of luck.

This is a long way of saying it should be close. But it is going to be awfully difficult for Odinson to take out the League.

I'll say Ragnarok, depending on reviews and good word of mouth.

Highest viewed trailer and I saw a ton of general fans sharing it on social media saying how good they think it looks.

Can't call it; I think a lot depends on how well Wonder Woman does, and how popular Thor is.

If WW does even reasonably well, then I think JL has the edge, at least in its opening weeks.

If WW bombs, and Thor is a hit, then JL will have a hard time getting a big opening.

Thankfully the Odinson will have some backup from the other good guys:
Hulk - Mark Ruffalo
Doctor Strange - Benedict Cumberbatch
Valkyrie - Tessa Thompson
Heimdall - Idris Elba
Odin - Anthony Hopkins
...

And the villains will aso give him a nice bump too.
Hela - Cate Blanchett
Loki - Tom Hiddleston
The Grandmaster - Jeff Goldblum
Skurge - Karl Urban
...

Globally JL should dominate - domestic is another thing, I think Thor could pull off a victory there.

This is no longer just a Thor film. However, I believe this is going to be a toss up as well.

Years ago, this shouldn't have even been a thread.

Post BvS, I can honestly say that Thor could win this.

As it stands now, I suspect JL will have the bigger opening, but Ragnarok will prove to have stronger legs.

I think it's the other way around.
Justice League will probably win domestically and Thor Ragnarok will end up scoring big worldwide. Thor is a big draw in foreign markets. Add to that all the new great characters, improved visuals, humor and you have a good "contender". In terms of Foreign box office some of the much better received Marvel movies compared to Thor 2...

Captain America: TWS - 454M
Doctor Strange - 445M
Guardians of the Galaxy - 440M
Thor: TDW - 438M

So all of the other movies we're much better received critically but Thor 2 still managed to gross pretty much the same amount as them in the foreign box office.

Eh - B vs S did well over sees at 500+ million, i imagine it will only increase with Justice league.

I'm leaning this way as well. This is a tougher choice than the trailer battle poll for sure.

Well i have a feeling that the bad reception for BvS will end up hurting Justice League's box office. Meanwhile i think that Thor Ragnarok will capitalize big time on the new vibe and will improve a lot on its previous box office results.

Still the surprise here is if Thor Ragnarok ends up earning more than a Justice League movie.

JL looks awful, but that hasn't stopped other movies from doing gangbusters (F8, I'm looking at you). Somehow I just don't think that the trailer buzz will yield a 1:1 translation to ticket sales as far as Thor is concerned. Hell, I'm not even expecting Spider-Man to do particularly well this year.

I think it will be close, Ragnorak has added Hulk which will only help the BO. But JL is JL, despite what people thought of the previous movies, it should still make a lot, tough one.

Surprised at early runaway for Ragnarok. What does that say about JL that the vast majority foresee a Thor movie outgrossing it, even coming off a lukewarm received Thor 2?

The fallacy that the Green Lantern, Flash, and Aquaman are more iconic and in the consciousness of the mainstream over Thor and even Hulk needs to end.

I think this could be an awesome battle. I think both will end in the 700s and gets very close. But I chosed Thor, the trust in DC seems very broken..

After the trailer I'm not as optimistic about JL as I was.

A Thor/Hulk team up outgrossing the first live action JL film would just be embarrassing for DC and WB. Talk about stealing your thunder.

It sort of parallels the JLA vs. Avengers comic crossover.

Except there's no Superman in this matchup to stop the mighty Thor with his meow meow.

I feel like Justice League coming out two weeks after Thor will hurt the legs and give Justice League a better BO.

I kind of agree. I think Black Friday might give DC a boosts in ticket sales if Coco doesn't steal it from JLA.

I like to think Black Friday is a fickle mistress.
