If the movie overperforms:

The saga will be considered successful again. They will make Apocalypse and then an OT cast movie. We don't know how they are gonna continue the franchise in the next 10 years. Thanks God they are not rebooting. :word:

If the movie underperforms:

What happens? I'm very afraid and scared about it. So far, we have a gross of 36 + 8 = 44 millions. Fingers crossed for today.

If it underperforms they will cut back Apocalypse budget by a lot. No spin offs maybe Gambit.

That $8M is inside the $36M not added to it.

My guess is the immediate plan will not change. I expect X-Men: Apocalypse, Wolverine 3, and Gambit are all happening in the next five years.

Even if this only makes $110 million this 4-day weekend, it will still be the second highest grossing opening in the series, and far above the last three movies. The series is growing, and it will grow even more for its sequel once weary audiences hear the WOM on this one and probably see it (with any luck) in future weeks or at least on DVD/Blu-ray.

However, there is a chance Fox won't spend $250 million on Apocalypse or even $200 million if DOFP can't cross $250 million domestic. With that said, the next one is definitely happening. And the vitality of that film will probably determine how they proceed beyond that besides the obvious spin-offs that are in the works.

Granted, this is all speculation.

There's already a box office thread.
