I doubt it. This isn't another Eternals situation. It's already almost at $700M worldwide. I'm also sure they're happy that a Doctor Strange movie nearly cleared $200 million domestically on its opening weekend.

This is going to pass $900M worldwide, which will be the biggest movie of Raimi's career. It has a very respectable critics score and people seem to be praising Raimi's direction overall, even those who didn't like it. This isn't like a Spider-man 3 situation where the movie made a ton of money but it pissed off all the fans. This movie is divisive for sure but the fans don't seem to be spitting venom (pun intended ) at Raimi the way they did when SM3 came out.

I think if Raimi wants to be back Feige will let him come back for another.

A lot of the time, success or lack thereof, is based on expectations. DS1 did just fine, but DS2 was a disappointment. LOL. The fact of the matter is that, WRT BO numbers, Marvel has set a higher bar than any other franchise I can think of and are making a S*** ton of money, along with entertaining a like number of fans. Not everyone is going to like everything, but, by and large, the movies are popular with the GA. That's just how it is. The Eternals, which I personally liked, was the lowest ranked MCU movie, but it still was liked by almost 80% of the audience (as reported by RT). I think we fall into thinking that what we, as individuals, think is really important overall. It's not.

Marvel Studios is not WB I don’t expect them to overreact to this run especially when the numbers warrant celebration and not exactly a freakout. They have a healthy, growing franchise on their hands. They’ll retool whatever they need too to make sure the next one gets a better reception but that work is going to happen on the margins. I think Raimi’s coming back if he wants too (and the direction of the next movie works with his style) and the same goes with Waldron. Also and I feel it’s something people forget quite often, but making these movies during Covid, reworking their slate multiple times and launching the Disney + side of the MCU in the middle of circumstances that shook the entire industries was a massive endeavor. And frankly, so far, I’m kind of grateful to get content that holds up as well as it does.

The one thing I feel they have to work on though is managing expectation better than they did with this one. Marketing every movie like the biggest thing ever is not sustainable in the long run and sets up expectations that not every film is going to meet. Not every entry in the MCU is going to generate the amount of excitement that leads to box office breakouts.

I see what you're saying, but it seems to indicate that being really good at marketing has its downside. Disney is going to push their new releases. DS2 got a lot of buzz, but if you make 900M without major markets, you're good. With Thor, they took a different approach and basically starved us (probably because they were pushing Strange), but I expect that to change over the next month and we're going to get some really cool stuff.

These movies basically have a 3 or maybe 4 week window and you have to brag about how great they are.

If today’s estimates hold up,MOM,in week 2 at 688 million dollars has surpassed the original film by $10 million in under two weeks. So, I am going to go out on a limb and say Disney/Marvel is probably pretty happy about that. Source: Box Office Mojo.

Going scorched earth over this would be one of the dumbest moves possible. Also, it's not like everything about the MCU was riding on this film. It was a solo Doctor Strange sequel, NOT Batman v Superman plus introduction of Wonder Woman.

I expected it to be about 1B, but 900M without some major territories is a big success. There's no doubt in my mind that NWH did help the BO; as did IW and EG, but that's just good marketing. Nothing wrong with that.

A B+ cinemascore is not bad,more so if it is a horror type film.
Most of the audience liked doctor strange 2(86%).That's really great.
The average rating from them 4.3 out 5.That's almost 4 and half stars out of 5.
That's great,but it is one the least liked mcu movie. It got a B+ cinemascore but it was still rated really high from the audience looking at the rt score.

I’m going to see the movie again today. It’s playing at the local Cinemark at 11:35 on the XD premium screen in 3-D. I wanted to see it in 3-D earlier, but the showtimes didn’t work out. Now they do. Because it’s playing before noon it’s only $6.25 for a ticket. I’m always up for a bargain.

Edit: and because of discount day of course. AMC is missing the boat. They’re charging 13 bucks for a 3-D show on non-premium screens. And you wonder why some movie theaters do better than others.

I don't think that would've mattered much. I do think the title "Multiverse of Madness" did set up expectations for a more radical and crazy type adventure, but at the end of the day I don't think that would've shifted things either way much
