Ant-Man Box Office Predictions - Part 1

Well it looks like FFINO is bombing pretty spectacularly so maybe some folks who want a good superhero film will decide to go see Ant-Man instead?

Deadline's early numbers for the weekend:

5/6). Ant-Man (DIS), 2,910 theaters (-412) / $2.25M Fri. / 3-day gross: $8M / Total cume: $147.6M / Wk 4

It thrills me to see this film showing such great legs. It is walkin' and talkin' in the Top 5 at the Box Office--despite the arrivals of several new films the last few weeks. Werk Ant-Man, werk!

How far has marvel got to go to become the biggest movie franchise? Harry Potter is still winning isn't it?

How we looking to hit $400m WW?

$400 million is a lock, and IMHO it should top $450 million. Only real question is whether it can hit $500 million.

It opens in Italy in two days. Based on past Marvel movie performances it should do somewhere between $6 million and $12 million there total. Between that, existing markets and domestic we may see $350 million WW by the end of next weekend.

When does it open in China and what are the estimates there?

It doesn't have a release date yet for China. Probably sometime in October.

I haven't seen any estimates but it's outperformed GotG in Taiwan and HK, so there's hope for a good number.

I think it will do very well there. The humor is relatively easy to translate. GotG, not so much. I think AM will do over 160M DOM; maybe hit 170M. Given the upcoming movies, I think it'll stay around for awhile and do well over 450M WW.

Man, I had to get away from the FF prediction thread. It was weird. It was like watching a train going down the tracks towards a mountainside. You want to look away, but you just can't bring yourself to avert your eyes. As soon as I find out next weekend's drop, I'll stop visiting that thread. It's not like I'm addicted to it or anything. I mean, I can stop anytime I want. It's not a problem....really, it's not.....:loco:

Can't wait to see what a couple of wanna-be box office snobs (who've been missing from this thread lately) have to say after it locks in that $400-$450 million. :jd:

Lol I know the feeling. I realized I had a problem today when I was getting a broken wisdom tooth pulled. All I could think of laying in the chair while the dentist tried to wrench it out of my jaw was, man I hope he hurries up, I want to see if the actuals have come in yet...

I know, right? You "might" be worse than me. I took my wife to a Dr's appt. this morning and I'm sitting there, listening to the Dr., asking questions, and posting on my IPhone. I think I may need professional help.

Excuse me?? I think you meant 450M+ :cwink:

A tidy profit for Marvel AND another cool character added to the mix (Can't wait for Giant-Man). A nice combination. I think most of us can agree that Marvel made another good casting choice when they selected Paul Rudd.

Glad to see this thing still chugging along nicely.

I think beating all the phase 1 movies that didn't star Iron Man is a worthy accomplishment for a character called Ant-Man.

I'm not sure it could get $360m just off of the territories it's open in right now though lol. Maybe $340m on the very high end.

The domestic market alone will push it past 345M.
Seems rather conservative to expect another 15M from os holdovers.
340M is not even the low end, it's gonna get there after the week end.

Speaking of actuals, the movie got $7,911,445 over the weekend (down 38%), putting the domestic total at 147,521,991, so it should be crossing 150 mil this week

Think of it like this.....a 40% drop over the next week has it pushing 160M through next Sunday. After that, there's not much on the horizon. I can see AM possibly hitting in the 170M mark; which is basically a 3x multiplier. That's not too bad.....

From there, another 100M WW puts it dead on 450M. I think that (and possibly more) is definitely in play.

I find it positively refreshing to my soul. :o

Don't know about that but it will keep people like 'The Guard' and 'Psylockocus' (whatever) away from Marvel boards
