My take on the villians is this. If you have seen the movie Unbreakable. You know that Sam Jackson's character says there are always two villains.

One is the Soldier Villian and the other is the Brain villian. So in BB Ra's is the brains. The Scarecrow is the Solidier. In TDK Joker is the brains, 2face is the villain.

So if you want to know which villians fit into plots look at the characters.
Penguin is going to be Brains. Riddler is going to be brains, Catwoman/Freeze/Poison Ivy are going to be soldier villains.

GS

Sam Jackson never said that.

Yeah...because a line in an M Night S movie dictates what villains will be in the next Batman movie. Of course!

Why not the Soldier, the Brain and the Rogue?

And, when it comes to "brain character", I'd prefer if we have several of them.

He meant that there are two TYPES of villains: brain and soldier.

The soldier villain tries to take on the hero with brute strength and combat, tries to defeat the hero in battle.

The brain, on the other hand, uses much less physical tactics and goes for the psychological/strategic methods.

Some villains, as Elyjah neglected to mention, are a combination of both.

I think you misunderstood his point.

I wouldn't really call the Joker both. He can't compare with Batman physically, or in combat. He jumped on him a couple times, beat him, yadda yadda yadda, but it was more due to his overall strategy than his ability as a fighter.

I'd say Joker is 90% Brain, 10% Soldier (with his knives 'n stuff).

Hannibal is the brain, Buffalo Bill is the soldier. I like that game.
Norman Bates is the brain... oh *****, it doesn't work all the time.

M. Night for BB3 director! [/sarcasm]

Poison Ivy ftw!

This franchise hasn't used the soldier much, and minions very sparingly. They've all been "brain" types of villains. They just have. Ra's was capable of fighting Batman, but he was most notably the mastermind.

In short, there is no soldier, and it would be a different type of movie/franchise if the Soldier aspect of villainy was focused on.

Well no reason this method can't be used. I would love to see The Riddler as the main villain with Killer Croc or Catwoman to test him physically. (Though Catwoman could also be said to be a test of the "heart")

Two-Face and Joker are both brain villains while all of the henchmen (Joker's goons, Maroni's goons, etc) are all soldier villains.

Two-Face challenged Batman's resolve to do the right thing, and his commitment to justice and not revenge.

Joker challenged Batman's philosophy and tempted him to see himself further as an outsider or a freak and to not care about Gotham anymore.

IMO pretty much all of Batman's villains are Brains except Mr.Freeze,Bane,Killer Croc,Clayface and Catwoman

Thats what makes Batmans rouge gallery the best but they give him problems psycholigaly and rely on there goons to deal with him in a physical matter

When think soldier villlains i think of Spider Mans rogue gallery they are more likley to give Spider-Man a run for his money interm of a physical battle

I dont think Scarecrow is a solider villain because if it was a one on one battle Batman would wipe the floor with him

Same thing goes for Joker or Two Face( though i wouldnt say hes techincally Brains especially in this movie)

I thouht Ras al Ghul was both he plotted the whole take over of Gotham and he could fight pretty well

Thats just what i think personally

Norman Bates is the brain... oh *****, it doesn't work all the time.

Well... Norman Bates is the brain... his mother is the soldier. Two in one! :D

Speaking of which, I remembered a particularly good Norman quote that fits the Joker quite well, "She just goes a little mad sometimes. We all go a little mad sometimes. Haven't you? "

Well...

I liked it <_<

Lol. Good one.
I've always loved that Bates quote, I believe they used it also in Scream (the Skeet Ulrich character says it at some point) and you're right it would indeed fit the Joker very well.
TDK Joker is up there imo in the pantheon of great cinematic villains with Norman, Hannibal, reverend Harry Powell, Don Logan and a few others.

^^^ And Jack but not as Jack Napier but as Jack Torrance:woot:.
