Am I the only one who didn't care that much about Walt taking Mike out? :funny:

Guys, I dunno about any of you but I don't think I'm coping with the loss of Breaking Bad all that well. I'm just not as excited about all my shows week to week anymore like I used to be. This sucks. I needa find a support group

know the feeling :(
just don't have the effort to keep up on my other shows

I'm just goin through the motions man. I wonder who the next truly great television protagonist will be. Certainly doesn't seem to be anybody on tv right now. Even Nucky Thompson considered. He doesn't stack up to Walter White, Tony Soprano or Vic Mackey. He's close though

I think by the time Boardwalk Empire is wrapping up, Nucky will be looked at as one of the greats.

And I would consider Don Draper as one of the great protagonists too actually. Mad Men is not as good or consistent as Breaking Bad, Sopranos or The Shield was, but Draper is a very rich and complex protagonist who belongs in the upper echelon.

Game of Thrones has some great characters, but I guess none are central protagonists since its an ensemble show.

Hear good things about Eastbound & Down and Sons of Anarchy, but haven't watched them yet.

Yeah, I think Sons of Anarchy is what I'll be diving into next.

Does Mad Men ever really get bad? I remember early in their runs everybody talking about Mad Men, True Blood and Dexter, now that they aproach the end it seems like almost nobody notices them, the light seems to have gone to Breaking Bad's final Season, Game of Thrones and Walking Dead

Mad Men never gets bad per se. Perhaps a little stale and tired. The first 3 seasons were so fantastic, and IMO it's never quite reached that high standard in its newer seasons. Still a great show worth watching.

And I have no idea why anyone is talking about Walking Dead in the same sentence as Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. I really hope Sawyer sees this and takes umbrage at me calling it the most overrated show since... I dunno.... some really overrated show. :o

Calm down, i mentioned because it's one of the shows rising far in popularity, the first episode of season 4 had 16 million viewers and a lot of people talk about it, in the same way many talk about Game of Thrones and were talking about BB in its final year.

But i'm in the camp that BB and GoT are in a level above WD, which is a show that i see is getting worse the more it stays away from the comics, with the only real great original element being Daryl.

Calm down,

(but seriously, was I un-calm? )

Yeah dude, I know. I was going off on a tangent.

I definitely agree!

I don't want to get anyone angry but I just don't see the big deal about Mad Men. I watched almost 3 seasons worth and gave up. Like, its not that its bad but, its sooooooo slow. While BB definitely had its slow moments, it never dragged on too long and it paid off big time. Mad Men, imo, really tests your patience and I'm just like c'mon something happen already! I dunno, I've concluded that maybe its just not my cup of tea.

If Mad Men is too slow for you, you'd really dislike Downton Abbey which I'm currently making my way through.

Lol oh I already KNOW Downton Abbey ain't my cup of tea.

Mad Men is more about life in the 60s, with a storyline going in behind

I often have to pique in about Mad Men, because it's my favorite show, but as I tend to always say this: it is a pure character-driven drama. That's not to say shows like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones aren't character-driven dramas, but they are very much also driven by traditional action, too. They strive to capture Hollywood-like excitement along with the drama and character. Mad Men just doesn't do that, and that leads a lot of people to see it as dry or boring. And that's fine, it's understandable, that's why I always caution a recommendation of the series to anyone, because it's probably not going to be the mainstream viewers cup of tea.

The big deal, though, is the amazing writing, the true to life characters, and the powerful literature-like subtly at which the characters evolve, and the capturing of an era of incredible change in history.

Mad Men has never been a colossal hit ratings rise. It's averaged about 2-3 million rating rise over it's run, which is great for a basic cable show, but you know, it's never been a Walking Dead phenomenon where it averaged near-network level ratings on a consistent basis. It's also talked about, but it's not on-air currently, either, so I'm not sure exactly what you mean.

As far as it getting bad, personally, I don't think it's ever been bad. For me, season 4 was sort of the peak of the series, but 5 & 6 were still quite excellent.

I would say quality wise Mad Men is just shy of Breaking Bad. Don Draper definitely deserves to be considered a great TV Protagonist.

Mad Men is a very quality show, but it just has so few moments of actual enjoyability for me. Thanks, but no thanks.

Early Mad Men was very talked about, many have even said that it was making the 60s fashion return, but it seems that nowadays not as many talk about it, and i'm talking about the last few years, not the last year, i'm not talking about ratings, it just seems like early on there were a lot of people talking about it and that after around 2011 nobody really mentioned again.

I never said it got bad, just asking if it ever gets bad, for people to mention it not being as consistent as Braking Bad or Game of Thrones

Well, I'm not sure what to tell you. It seems about as talked about as it ever was to me? Unless you're just referencing the Hype here, in which case it probably has a lot to do with the fact that traffic on the site in general is much lower than it used to.
