I actually wonder if Breaking Bad sort of took off as a pop culture phenomena earlier into its run, if we would have had maybe some higher profile guest stars?

Sort of like the HBO shows tend to get? AMC generally doesn't have the budget on its shows for the bigger names though but for BB I'm pretty sure you would have had stars going for lower rates just to be on it.

Guest stars for the sake of having a celebrity voice often feels like stunt-casting (see Simpsons, Will & Grace, Big Bang, etc).

It was a wig. It was his real hair in the flashforwards in previous episodes but by the time they filmed the finale he had shaved his head. The beard is fake too, the parts other than the goatee that is.
