"What does SHIELD stand for, Agent Ward?"

"Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division."

"And what does that mean to you?"

"It means someone really wanted our initials to spell out 'SHIELD'."

Got it, thanks. Google came up with several and I didn't feel like sifting through them.

I get the impression that Ward will be our "guide" character. The pilot probably starts with him on his first day in the "X-Files" section (or whatever it'll be called) of SHIELD, getting introduced to everybody.

And he's probably the "square-jawed hero" of the series.

Pretty spot on observation, I'd say.

It's funny what a few clips and lines can do. I didn't give a hoot about this guy until the extended trailer. Now he seems pretty cool.

He's hot. That's all I've got so far. But I like that he doesn't seem to be the naive, earnest audience stand-in. He's got some snark to him, but being a Whedon hero, that's not exactly a surprise.

Is he hispanic?

He's really tall. And I liked his character in the extended trailer. Great line: "Someone really wanted our initials to spell out SHIELD."

i'm betting he has ties to an avenger or is mar-vell's son, or something like that.

Man, what Coulson did was cold, but hilarious at the same time.

Yeah, those two are definitely going to hook up aren't they? Whedon couldn't have made it any more obvious.

I prefer that to seemingly endless angst.

I know it's vapid but gee he's hot. When he wear the black leather and white shirt I actually made a snort of appreciation. All the characters are great though. Can't wait for more. It's fun to meet new characters in the marvel u

The curveball we've been thrown regarding Ward & May has made him more interesting and the show's dynamic a whole lot more exciting. It seemed that the writers were determined to push Ward and Skye as a couple, far too fast and without any buildup. Melinda May has sunk that ship and I couldn't be happier. Also, as long as Ward is banging May we can expect more shirtless Brett Dalton scenes. :hrt:

I never got any indication things were headed that way. Saw a lot of people online running on the assumption that it would happen though.

I think the sudden Ward/May pairing is a blatant indication the writers intend to make Skye the "sad sister" that will make puppy dog eyes at Ward for several episodes, once she finds out.

Then,Ward will see the "error of his ways" by season's end.:woot:

What, you missed the whole "SO" setup, the sharing and caring about their hard childhoods, the training sessions that led to Ward wrapping his big, strong arms around Skye, the many moments of awkward flirting and snarking, etc.? Skye and Ward have been getting the big push since their second scene together in the pilot. The two of them shared most scenes after that, up until the big reveal of Skye's treachery in episode 5, after which Ward noticeably cooled towards her. People have considered them an inevitable pairing because the show presented them that way.

Happily, the timely intervention of sexy Agent May has sunk that ship, at least for the moment. Something needed to slow it down. The fact that the May/Ward thing is so unexpected is a big bonus as far as I am concerned. AOS needed a kick in the ass to shake things up a bit. The writers papered over the problems that Skye's betrayal should have caused within the team, so strife had to come from some other source.

This relationship has the added benefit of keeping May out of the sexless, maternal older woman trap she might otherwise have landed in. Ward benefits as well. He is suddenly much more interesting than he was before, not to mention sexier. Brett Dalton has some charisma and range as an actor, which wasn't apparent in all the time he spent in Skye's orbit. They have actually succeeded in making Ward a more likable character after a rocky start. Even his scenes with Skye are tolerable with the cloud of his affair with May hanging over them. When everything comes to a head, I'd love to see the two of them blow it off while Skye goes ballistic, FitzSimmons are confused and Coulson is very, very disappointed. :word:

What if Lorelei wasn't lying?

What if the woman she's describing is Victoria Hand?

What if Ward is also Hydra, might not be as indoctrinated so might turn sides rather than betray Coulson but what if Garrett is also Hydra?

Can't help wondering if that story regarding Ward's past has been too easily overlooked... what if Deathlok went after them because the Clairvoyant knows Garrett is Hydra and wants to find out what he learned in that secret base that was blown up...

Going too far I know, but what do you think?

If any of the main 6 are HYDRA agents, or rather HYDRA agents that don't eventually get redeemed, that would piss a lot of people off. I might stop watching this show

We should rename this thread "Brett Dalton is.. a Hydra Agent"

Ward :hubba I want to see him more and more now.

Gonna stick to this?

That's a silly statement anyway
If one of them wasn't Hydra, that would strain credibility to me
