Fantasy Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Vampire - Part 3

I imagine most people would say that Angelus was the best big bad in the Buffy/Angel universe. After him, who do people here think was the best? My feeling is most will say The Mayor.

Angelus overrated. I'd go with Glory followed by the Mayor.

1. Glory
2. The Mayor
3. Angelus
4. Dark Willow
5. The First
6. The Master
7. Adam (ewww!)

Angel didnt really do Big Bads, at least not in the traditional sense. Jasmine is the only one that would qualify although there were great mid season opponents that were awesome like Angelus and The Beast

The main conceit of Buffy 6 is flawed. Real life is the big bad, but it never really feels real. I was really annoyed when Willow explains how broke Buffy is, when she and Tara have been living in the house for months. Then Giles gives Buffy a massive bail-out only for her to need to flip burgers a few episodes later. The show strained to keep Buffy's father out of the picture also, despite him being depicted as a caring dad early on.

I have many problems with the season. I wish Giles left because Buffy pushed him away, instead of coming off as a incredibly harsh lesson in independence. I wish Xander and Anya continued to struggle as a young married couple, instead of the soap drama and another break up. I wish Willow's relationship with magic continued to be about the abuse of power, and not a cheesy drug addiction metaphor. I wish Dawn had anything to do other than whine. Warren as a human villain was great, but I wish him killing Tara wasn't such an unbelievable coincedence.

Once More With Feeling is fantastic. I like Normal Again and Afterlife as well. Other episodes have their moments, but overall, meh.

That's all true, especially about Giles bailing Buffy out. Reality unfortunately is never that merciful to most of us.

A lot of things in regards to season 6 just didn't ring true.

The Mayor would be second to Angelus for me alright. He's such a well written character capable of acts of kindness as well as absolute cruelty.

Drusilla is a dark horse for me as well and I would have really liked to have seen Landau get the opportunity to be central to another season (though I am thankful we at least got season 2 of Angel). Dru and Angelus in a way are more equal to each other than they were to Spike and Darla respectively.

Master was pure ham but was still an interesting character. I don't think another season of him being central to the plot would have been necessary but certainly another arc would have been nice (a fleshed out doppelganger world for example).

But Angelus absolutely number 1 for me, with Spike at least he "became more of a man" as he put it himself even without the soul, but with Angel it doesn't matter how much good he does.....if that switch flips then pure evil takes over. Pure and simple.

First Evil the weakest for me. I was just never thrilled with the whole concept of it. Its disciples were more interesting to me than the entity itself such as Caleb and the ubervamps.

the biggest misstep with The First was not giving it a corporeal form. Buffy should have been able to fight it in the series finale. I loved the concept of it and though it had potential to make for an amazing villian that was never fully realized

Yeah after everything The First should've been given a definite form. Plus they missed a prime opportunity to bring people back like Cordelia/Kendra/first bff guy who got killed

Cordelia? She was still alive as of the end of Buffy. I definitely agree on Kendra. She was killed off far too soon with little done with her

Oh yeah. I just really wanted to see Cordelia on the show again lol.

The bottom three are tough to rank as I wasn't a huge fan of any of them, though I like the Master's appearances in future seasons beyond his own ("the Wish," the flashback sequences for Darla's origins), so he edges out the other two. I think Maggie Walsh would have been a far more interesting Big Bad than Adam, and the First Evil had a fantastic introduction in "Conversations With Dead People" but just never lived up to its potential.

It's really hard to rank Buffy villains.

I do think Angel is the best. He's that once in a show opportunity to hit every beat of a great villain. He's a boyfriend gone bad, which is just perfect for this show as it gets to mine into the metaphor. Boreanaz plays it well too.

I love the Mayor as a quirky character, and his relationship with Faith is fantastic. Glory is fun. Warren becomes one of the most unsettling villains in the show's run. The Master is a solid first season big bad. Not particularly developed, but he works well as the symbol of prophecy that Buffy defies. The First doesn't really work, though the Uber-Vamp and Caleb carry some weight. Dark Willow is totally mishandled. Adam has to be the weakest overall, there's not a lot to him. I am more and more aware of Maggie Walsh's absence every time I watch that season. Shame the actress had to leave.

An idea was tossed around that Jessie would haunt Xander in "Conversations with Dead People". That would have been bizarre and interesting.

The First should have been haunting the s**t out of everyone at all times. It would have been a terrifying villain if we saw it taunting people and playing games every time they were alone or vunerable.

Every time I watch that awkward Buffy mutiny near the end of the season, I imagine everyone involved has evil whispering into their ears. Makes it more tolerable lol.

I liked The Master on Angel and in his season 3 appearance. He was more badass in those appearances IMO. I would have loved it if he were brought back and used as a villain on Angel. It would have been cool to see Spike interact with him.

Adam could have worked alongside a full blown mad scientist Maggie Walsh. Riley being twisted further by Walsh would have been interesting as well rather than Adam, but I guess the boyfriend can horribly wrong thing had already been done.

The Mayor
Glory
Angelus
The Master
Dark Willow
The First
Adam

Adam had wasted potential had that arc been worked differently. That 'group battle' there stills makes me cringe. I enjoyed Glory the most as a character, but the totality of everything Season 3 makes me lean toward the Mayor.

Might have been the moment that had me the most pissed at how stupid most everyone was being. "This is my house too." FOH.

I remember reading somewhere that that's what the original plan was, but the actress couldn't do any more episodes. Not sure how true that is, but it's a shame. I think Adam would have worked much better in tandem with Maggie.

Adam was so damn bland. Im not sure there is anything that could have salvaged him. What was even worse is that he came up right after we got The Mayor

Hey everyone!

I've recently made a couple enamel pins of a few characters(and have two or three more in the works) and right now I'm having a 20% off promo on Etsy to celebrate SMG's birthday. The code is SMGBDAY.

What's the point of releasing these videos with such gaps in between them? I just saw the one about Hush now because the one with Caulfield showed up in my feed even though it was uploaded nearly two weeks ago. Just upload them all together or better yet upload the whole interview as one video.

Yeah I don't understand it either. The punch is gone by releasing them so late.

Wow EW really is trying to milk these interviews aren't they?

Joss Whedons now ex-wife just totally ripped him to shreds bringing to light that he started having an affair with someone who worked on Buffy.

For some reason I'm thinking it might have been Amber Benson, don't know why.

And not shocked.

EDIT: Just read her letter. Jebus.
