Fantasy Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Vampire - Part 3

Just read last night they are considering a Buffy revival on Fox (even though it never aired on Fox, they produced it and own the rights to it apparently) so there's a possibility of more Buffy in the future though I wonder if this means they will keep the comic canon or not.

LOL!!!! I literally said I was surprised this wasn't suggesting like a week or 2 ago, LOL!!!!!!

I am psychic :oldrazz:

interesting! SMG and the others would probably be up for it, I dont think they have much on thier plates these days, the guy who played Xander is a felon though so that might throw a wrench in things lol either way I hope this happens!

I could get over the fact that the actors have aged, so that wouldnt be a problem to me.
But to be honest i would rather like to see a Animated series or so...i dont know.
A animated series of Buffy always caught my interest more than anything else involving Buffy.

With season 12 of the comics being the last in this seasonal approach of the comics, it would be nice to see Buffy continue some other way.

Alyson Hannigan has a new series she's starring in this fall that might step in the way but as a limited series I'm sure she could make at least a few brief recurring appearances. Not sure what James Marsters schedule is like, being on the Runaways series. None of the others are doing anything as regular as television as far as I can tell.

A frequent analysis: the brilliance of Buffy was its use of monsters and demons as metaphors for teen/high school angst. And though the latter part of the series successfully extended the narrative into the early college years and more mature themes, it’s arguable whether the original/core concept could be stretched much further. And that was back when most of the actors were in their twenties and thirties. Now, everyone is 40+.

Wasn’t a slayer born into every generation? I’m still so new to this so whatever I’m wrong in, please correct me. Most consider a generation to be 20 years so since the characters are older now, what about a new slayer coming along to be trained by buff and Co?

I just found out about the comics and look to checking them out once I finish with the show

I honestly hope they go ahead and do a revival, perhaps Legend of Korra-style though with a new Slayer protagonist and SMG training her.

And hopefully Joss Whedon would return to it. Not like his career is going super well like it was 5 years ago.

A new slayer is activated whenever one dies. There can and are multiple slayers within a generation. FYI, when the series ended
there were multiple potentials whom were activated to become slayers

quite frankly, they really dont need anyone from the original cast in order for this to work. They'd definitely strengthen it but the concept makes it easy enough to not require them

Oh, I think a sequel series (“the next generation” as it were) or a reboot (with new actors in the original roles) is doable. (Whether it’s necessary is a different story. :cwink:)

I was just questioning the feasibility of bringing back the original cast for a Buffy 2.0.

I love Whedon as a writer, but given everything that's happened with him having those multiple affairs (during Buffy too), is he really the guy to be writing about a show that's pretty much about female empowerment? And for me, it's not Buffy without Whedon's involvement in some way, so I just can't really get behind it. Would I be curious as hell and watch it? Sure, but I'd say just let this lie.

I can get behind Whedon doing other porjects, but his feminist card has pretty much been revoked. I can move past it and if he accepted responsibility for what he did and realized he was full of ****, but he doesn't seem like a guy who can change.

I dont think i'd be very interested if it was a completely new cast, it at least needs SMG IMO

I would answer this, CC, but that would spoil some stuff down the road for ya, lol.

I'm against a revival. I thought the later seasons weren't as good, but it managed to have a functional ending. Bringing it back 15+ years later would more than likely just tarnish it. An Angel revival would make more sense, although for some reason I didn't mind how that ended. And in that case maybe, just maybe
they'd bring back Fred.

I'd be more open to a reboot. Buffy was a movie before it was a show. It wasn't a good movie, but I saw the potential there before the show ever existed, so a different take could be interesting.

THnk again because its the complete opposite. SMG is not interested in reprising her role, she constantly shuts it down saying she is to old. And Joss isnt interested either.

Yeah I don't think a revival is a good idea at all. Now a Fray show on the other hand...:sly:

It'd just come off as pretty "Joss is getting desperate" at this point if it happened.

Buffy/Angel are some of my most dear shows of all time, just...ehh, I dunno. You wouldn't want it done without Joss, I don't even really see the point with Joss...

Would be cool to see Sarah in something major again, but yeah, not so sure I have much interest in seeing 40 year old Buffy, Willow and Xander running around leading a bunch of the younger Slayers from S7 in international demon-hunt-y-ness.

Some Fray adaptation could be cool, or an otherwise "_____ The Vampire Slayer" in some other time period, but ehh.

Frankly, I'd way rather just get that Ripper spinoff that was reported as a possibility years back. Something's happened over the years to send Giles back into his darker self (sort of in that latter-Angel-seasons Wesley mode), set it in the UK, older Giles separated from Buffy & Co going about the good fight. I forget, did Ethan Rayne show up again after getting locked away by the Initiative in S4? Could bring him back as some major antagonist, or even sort of odd-couple allies thing if he's had some big life re-evaluation. You could even factor in the main Scoobies into it in cameos down the line or something.

But yeah, definitely no new-showrunner/re-casted Buffy reboot, **** that. Maaaaaybe it'd be worth continuing with Joss and the originals, but even that's seeming unlikely and a little pointless. S7 was basically a perfect ending for things anyway.

I think Gifted would have been a perfect series finale but I forgive them for continuing just for Once More With Feeling

Would fray be to Korra what Buffy was to aang (avatar airbender)?
Guess I’m going to have to look up Fray now lol

Okay kinda similar.

The avatar comes around once a lifetime so to speak and there’s only one. Similar to the slayer in that regard I suppose. I’ve not seen Korra yet so someone else may be able to explain better, but she a future avatar

Gotcha, so yeah it is kinda like that.

Yep, Fray's like Legend of Korra. At this point, i would much rather see a tv show for that. The Fray mini-series was pretty good and left some plot threads open-ended. Also, if they ever wanted to bring back old cast members, they could always do time travel.

Yeah Fray definitely deserves to get adapted and exposed to the world.
