Fantasy Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Vampire - Part 3

The treatment of Charisma/Cordelia is the reason why I have such an irrational dislike of Amy Acker.

Propping Fred up like she was this goddess (no pun) when Cordelia did it better always pissed me off.
What do you mean they propped Fred up? The issue for Cordelia and Fred is a lot of their characters in season 3 and 4 are tied to being the object of affect for the male characters, and eventually the center of really crappy love triangles. They get episodes centered around them, but outside of that, yeah they are kind of there for mostly that. A lot of Winfred's qualities are down to Amy Acker actually being a goddess, but I don't think that is her fault. :woot:

As much as I hated that storyline, "Inside Out" is one of my favorite episodes of the show. I loved Darla's portrayal in that...felt like a fitting final (non-flashback) appearance for her. I know it's kind of ambiguous as to whether or not that was the "real" Darla, but I've always liked the idea that it was, and that after her act of pure love/self-sacrifice, she ended up unequivocally on the side of good.

That said, I hated Vincent Kartheiser as Connor. Whenever I'm watching it, I can't help but think that I could have really enjoyed this character if played by a different actor. On paper, he's totally fascinating to me. But Kartheiser's performance makes him as obnoxious as possible. At points where I felt like he was supposed to be coming across as this weary, tortured soul, he just came across as a brat. There are just so many times I felt like I knew exactly what the writers were going for, but Kartheiser wasn't selling it. I later ended up loving him in his role on Mad Men, so I don't hate him as an actor or anything, but yeah. Just a total miscast for me.
He is Anakin Skywalker. I don't know why they did that, but they cast him that way and it ended badly. :funny:

Though I do wonder how much of Connor's problem is the really bad material they give him in season 4. God, that was a ****show.

I'm gonna be pissed if they ignore the continuity of the comics they spent so long telling me were canon.

I didn't read past Twilight so I'm cool with ditching the whole mess.

Buffy/Angel space sex. PUKE

I love Buffy/Angel series to death, so I am very, VERY worried about this. I just can't see it being as good.

I figured it would happen eventually. Making reboots/spin/continuations is the thing to do. I didn't like the idea of Dragonball making Super but I ended up loving it after not watching it for years. I was never into Karate Kid but I enjoyed that show. Think I will give this a chance whenever it does come out.

They will and they should. The vast majority of viewers do not read the comics. They would be confusing the hell out of the audience for this show if they pick up from the comics

I think fans need to start letting go of what's canon and what isn't. Hollywood is basically doing now, what comics have always done, have multiple timelines. Just look at the new Robocop in develpment or the New Halloween film. Star Wars also put the old canon aside once Disney bought it. These days its just something we have to accept. You can cherish those stories even if they aren't relevant to the new stuff.

If the show is set in the present day it will already take place years after 90% of the stuff in the comics is over with anyway. They are going to need a decent timeskip to explain the aging of any actors from the old series who cameo. All the stuff in the comics happened in the timeskip. They can't just resume where the old series left off no matter what they do.

This set of comics is ending soon anyway. all they have to do is set it after Dark Horse's version.

I think right now a lot of stuff is still up in the air. The things done in the comics are a little too out there to be referenced on the show. Part of the point of the comics was always the opportunity to expand Buffy's world beyond the constraints of television in the sense of marketability and budget. They got away with a lot of things that wouldn't have worked on the show and I doubt they'd be able to bring them in to a new show. My hope is that, as has been mentioned, they can leave the comics as part of the canon and have this new show take place in the present day, after the events of the comics. I hope we get more information soon.

Just don't assume audience knowledge about the comics (not that they have any reason to) and don't bring up anything stupid that happened in the comics, and I won't be concerned about them being left as canon. Granted, I don't know enough about the comics to know where they left things and whether it would be any sort of problem.

Rewatching S4 and thinking if Cordy had stuck around they could've had some interesting stories revolving Sororities and of course Sunday sticking around longer would've been fun. Also should've given us more Olivia.

maybe but it really was for the best that she left the show. She grew so much as a character and I doubt she'd have received as much development had she remained on Buffy. Being lead female on Angel did wonders for her. She always felt low on the totem pole in Buffy

Of course moving to Angel was best for her but i always wnder about thr alternates. Still s shame she never crossed over after she left.

I really, REALLY wanted Buffy to meet the "new and improved" Cordelia. I can't believe that never happened.

me too. I would have killed to have had Buffy come to LA and walked in on Cordy and Angel in a close moment.

Dark Horse just lost the comic license.

God, remember that rumor when Buffy ended that Nicholas Brendon was possibly going to be shipped over to Angel?

Xander would've been so damn annoying on that show.

Thank God that never happened. Would've ruined my favorite Angel season.

He would've fell in love with Fred and then b*ched about her not returning his feelings. And had to get rescued by Angel and then insult him of course.

The more I rewatch Buffy the more my enmity towards him grows. He was such a hater.

Marvel will try to get it. :whatever:
Probably won't try. Disney owns Marvel. Disney will soon own Fox. They are not going to farm out their property to another rival when they have their own in house company to do it for them.

Oh that would be a complete Desaster. :loco:

I think that's the point of Xander. He's a jealous, petty, insecure person and it hurts his relationships consistently but somewhere deep down, there's a guy who would die for the people he cares about without hesitation. He's deeply flawed but he still has his role to play.

Xander has no close ties to anyone on Angel except Cordelia, who was of course his ex. So being on that show would never allow Xander's better qualities to show through.

Such as when he goes to help Buffy fight the Master even after she shut down his awkward romantic advances, or the speech he gives Willow at the end of S6, or the speech he gives Dawn when she finds out she isn't a Potential.
