Buffy will always remain my all time favourite show and Whedon will never take that away. Yes, he created it and wrote a ton of the best episodes, but it’s a collaborative effort. I’m not just reading the script. I’m watching the actors act, the stunts, visuals etc.

I guess because I was too young for the early Internet forums and what not, I never fed into the whole “Joss is a god” rhetoric. When I got into the show in the very early 2000s, there was already enough out there about Joss being kinda crappy, so I’ve always known that as I was watching Buffy.
I get why some people can’t separate the two, but at the same time, there are so many wonderful people that worked on this show, I don’t think we should discredit them.
Whedon is undoubtedly a POS. I hope he never gets to exploit his power over anyone ever again. He *clearly* has not taken any real responsibility with this article. It makes him look worse than before.

But then I think of the countless shows and movies that are beloved that have not so wonderful creators behind the helm. A film the “The Shining”, for example. A truly great and well loved film. A classic of the genre. Yet, there is no shortage of horror stories about Kubrick and how horribly he treated Shelley Duvall during filming. Still a great film, though.
I think it’s important to acknowledge and be aware of the “bad” along with the “good” with any sort of media we consume, but I don’t think we need to completely forget about these pieces of art because a bad person was involved with them.

It would be wrong to dismiss the guy's achievements. I mean you see the influence of Buffy to this day on both film and tv (it's actually a wonder to me that SMG hasn't been cast in a DC or Marvel project yet).

It's just sad that the more we find out about him as a human being, it becomes more evident that he is in direct opposition to the messages he would send through his work.

I suspect it's one their keeping their powder dry on for now. I'd be surprised if they haven't hired people on the quiet to hammer out an overall story though.

I'm not. Disney loves sitting on a properly and let it collect dust. If the series cant even get a proper remaster, nothing much outside of the comic will happen.

Not really that surprising. Until recently, the idea of rebooting Buffy or Firefly without Whedon would be perceived as a problem. Disney and Whedon had their falling out way before the public turned on Whedon.

They were doing a reboot/revival of sorts with a new showrunner and Whedon just serving as an EP but it went into development hell.

I read that the Slayer is not going to be Buffy but someone else. (So the new title makes sense) She's still around though, the story is a continuation. Something about Willow messing up a spell trying to help Buffy.

Buffy feels ripe for a revival when you look at similar shows that have done the same. It's kind of messy when you look at the details though. The show was built on the cast of characters, mostly teenagers, and even if you want to pick up with them as middle-aged people, core characters shouldn't have aged at all. Not to be mean, but no-one wants to see what Xander is like these days. And then there's Joss. I can't imagine he holds any legal rights over Buffy now, but he's obviously etched into this.

I can kind of see a 'Super-Mum' story with SMG working. Buffy the House-Wife is forced out of retirement by some evil scheme. There's humour and pathos to be mined from Buffy doing the 'too old for this s**t' shtick. With the right people, I could see that being kind of cute.

Almost all the revivals I have seen for the shows I enjoy have been pretty trash. Or at best, just okay. This is one show I hope isn’t revived, rebooted, re-anything for a LONG time

Quite a while ago (jeez, time flies ), I was online chatting with some Buffy fans about possible sequels. My view was that the 30-something cast (and some were in their 40s) was now too old. Many disagreed. (Ageism!) Of course, they recognized that a sequel show wouldn’t be about monsters and horror as metaphor for teenage angst. Nevertheless (they argued) there were many interesting story opportunities to explore with the original Scooby Gang as more confident and experienced adults. Well maybe that was true… a few years ago. But now, in 2022, the cast is 40-something (with some in their 50s).

Back around 2018, there was talk of a “rebooted” series. It would extrapolate from the basic Buffy continuity — but would take place some twenty years later and follow a new group of young characters. Needless to say, this project is either in deep limbo or dead.

I dont really remember but it think Xander has turned into a Vampire there or so.

And i know recently there was a new Buffy comic with an 50 something old Buffy.

I always say that i could see a animated Buffy show as a sequel that follows season 8 and so on if you dont want to go with the actors.

But you could do a lot of good things with the aged actors too, hell you could even use Spike and explaining his aging with some Hocus Pocus Magic stuff no problem.
You can do a lot with the IP in general, there is a lot possible.

I could go for an anthology series about Slayers of the past. You could have sporadic cameos from SMG and Alyson Hannigan, with Buffy and Willow chronicling the stories of the Slayers in an effort to preserve them. Could be a feasible concept since the Watchers Council has been destroyed, so Willow is trying to maintain Slayer history somehow.

Would be kind of depressing though since we know how the Slayer’s story is going to end.

But I always loved the Tales of the Slayer books they used to do. That would be ripe for a spinoff.

There is a reboot over at Boom comics, yes. Buffy/Kendra/Faith are all active, explored the multiverse, Willow starts out, out and proud w/a gf and isn't considered a nerd anymore. Xander suffers from depression and is now a vampire. Cordelia is an activist, Spike is more William than William the bloody, Robin is a teen watcher, Anya is an adult and runs magik box.

As far as a revival....SMG has made it very clear that she has zero interest in revisiting Buffy. So that'll never happen. The franchise is ripe for a revival in terms of exploring other Slayers. An anthology series would be best, every season focuses on a different slayer during a different decade. Or adapt Fray.

I know she's happy to let it rest, but I think if a real offer came around and she liked the script, Gellar would probably do it.

Most of the revival shows they’ve had have been average at best, so I hope they don’t bother with Buffy.

I mean, if they did do it, you best believe I will be extremely ecstatic, but I definitely think it isn’t needed.

Started watching first ep of Angel but had to stop. Why did Whedon have to be so God damn nihilistic!? Mind you I did love Angel's fake drunk behavior as part of his investigation.
