Fantasy Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Vampire - Part 3

Anya! 😭 Our comic relief who didn't deserve to go out like a punk.

Does Fred count?

fred! fred was one of my favorite characters the first time around

and anya's death was one of the first that really shocked me. i vividly remember that scene and how it just kept moving on

Did Buffy have a “no kill code”?

I was skimming through some trivia about the series and came across a list of Buffy’s extensive kill count. The total claimed was something like +300 — not too surprising over seven seasons and for a character whose job description is “slayer.” Of course, the vast majority of these were vampires, demons and various other monsters. But there was a small number of human victims. Now, some of these might be classified as inadvertent and/or collateral damage. E.g.: the evil zookeeper in “The Pack”; the evil swim coach in “Go Fish”; Gwendolyn Post in “Revelations”; the two German mercenaries in “Homecoming.” But the largest group of human casualties is represented by the Knights of Byzantium from season 5. To be sure, these fatalities were in self defense and occurred during life-or-death battles. So there’s no rational argument, IMO, that Buffy (unlike Faith) ever committed murder. Still, in related superhero genres, a “no kill code” doesn’t allow for justifiable homicides; it’s a prohibition against taking any human life, no matter the circumstance. But for Buffy, it appears that “circumstances” could — occasionally — override any such code.

Buffy had a no "innocents" kill code. She wont kill you if you arent trying to kill her.

Yeah as a rape survivor I can't watch that scene.

Faith killing an innocent and not a vamp is what set that whole good slayer vs bad slayer rivalry subplot into motion.

Yeah. Ultimately, that’s how one might rationalize the deaths of the various human baddies. But I was wondering if there was ever a more explicit and absolute “no kill code.” And there seemed to be some indication of such a code — even if was inconsistently applied. For instance…

In “Gingerbread,” the early evidence suggested that the children’s deaths were non-supernatural murders. Whereupon an incensed Buffy asks Giles if he can “…find a loophole in that 'Slayers don't kill people' rule?” Which rather suggests that there is such a rule on the books.

And in “Villains,” Buffy confronts Dark Willow and explains to her that “…we don't kill humans. It's not the way." Again implying that there’s a kind of “jurisdictional” situation going on. The Scoobies deal with fantastical villains; but mortal ones (like the very guilty Warren) are the responsibility of the police, etc.

We know that there were multiple actors up for these iconic roles and yes - we know nothing beats what we ended up with.

But if you couldn't have the original cast - which cast would you choose to be the cast of Buffy The Vampire Slayer S1.

Some "logic" that I used - if SMG werent Buffy, she'd always end up being Cordelia. The ones that turned down the roles would never be in a cast together anyway. Riff would likely always end up being recast unless it was a miracle.

Is that Katie Holmes and Ryan Reynolds? :omg:

Presumably, this would be the (bad) HD remaster from a few years ago. I haven’t heard anything about a re-remaster/fix.

True, plus it's going to be on Tubi, which is free, so I'm guessing the quality isn't all that great on that particular app.

I just learned Eliza Dushku (Faith) was sexually harassed by Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo NCIS) on their CBS show.

Michael Weatherly pretty much getting away with it by rewarding him another show with an NCIS spinoff is a whole other issue.
He got off pretty easy considering what the comments were.
From what i gather, He cleaned up his act after this and toned down his fratboy behaviour a ton, but He still managed to get away pretty easy.

I’ve had creeper vibes from that guy ever since he got engaged to teenage Jessica Alba when he was 33.

Honestly, though.

Yes! But. Eliza was not available. She was offered her own show (with Spike as a co-lead) but she chose to do Tru Calling instead.

In semi-related news, Eliza Dushku is no longer acting and has recently done a master's degree in counseling and clinical mental health for a career in therapy. Good for her, though I'd have her back as Faith in a second if she ever fancied it ha.

Yeah, I loved Tru Calling, but I always thought Dushku picking that project over the Faith spinoff was a choice.

I kinda get it. There's probably a little more perceived value in an original show over a spin-off, and it's a fresh opportunity and role for an actor. If you're looking at money exclusively, 'Faith' had a built-in audience ready for it but would likely never surpass Buffy's success. Tru might have blown up.

But still. Give me Faith plz

I feel like if they were dating dating, we would’ve already known this, so this strikes me as the two of them maybe going on a few dates early on and then calling it quits before it became anything. Assuming this is even true.

Within the context of their roles on the show, Hannigan and Denisof is still pretty wild to me.

She dodged a bullet. :o
