If it was made for the fans, but critics didn't like it, what about the GA? Is it not made for them? Will they not find the movie a mess and boring and jumbled...saying it's made for the fans is kinda alienating 90% of the GA, at least...by their logic.

I agree with you.

The "made for comic fans" is such a terrible excuse. Marvel makes films that both comic fans AND the GA love. It's not a mutually exclusive thing.

Yeah. Quite pissing me off to see cast and crew repeating this ********.

I actually dont think for this movie it is important. Hype has been insane and everyone will want to see it. OW will be crazy,. however that drop afterwards im not so sure about.

What in this movie would the GA not get?

You'd have to ask the people who are claiming the GA and critics don't "get" the movie because it's made for comic book fans. Instead of just accepting that some people don't like the movie some fans are acting as if the only way someone could not like the movie is if they don't "Get it".

What in this movie would the GA not get?

I'm not quite understanding. I didn't say there was stuff the GA wouldn't get. I'm just saying the excuse against the reception of the film that it is "made for comic fans and so people just don't 'get it' " is a poor one.

Thing is, when people say there is a bias in Marvels favour... you have to ask why. It's because they have built a lot of good will and confidence in the audience and critics.

At the moment DC/WB have failed to do that outside of Nolan TDK trilogy. Green Lantern bombed. Man of Steel made money but was polarising. Dawn of Justice is getting ripped apart.

I think their vision, whether it's Snyder's or the studios, just hasn't clicked like it should have. It's a damn shame.

Superman should have become more hopeful and confident in this film. But he hasn't grown from MoS it seems. Still brooding and treating his responsibilities as a huge burden on his life.

I really think this movie and dc were caught between a rock and a hard place. The movie has issues for sure and sure the motivations for the fight is muddled but above all that i believe the biggest problem is that it is not earned.

Say what you want about marvel movies they also have not all been excellent but the reason a movie like civil war may make more of an impact is because the general audience is invested in the characters. We have seen the ideologies clash for a few movies and we have followed these guys through their own trilogies. This conflict has been brewing and now it comes to a head

I understand dc didnt want to be looked at the guys who are only doing things the same way as the OTHER company but the flip side of this decision is a movie that feels like its going backwards. We havent spent time with this batman to truly understand his point of view. superman maybe a bit more but sadly his character is being abused to give this new batman a sense of badassery. The avengers 1 was a good movie but truly what helped it get high reviews was the fact that these characters we had met were all about to meet on screen. Dc doesnt have that because they chose to make justice league before most solos.it was a decision they had to make but was it the right one? Anyway just my two cents

I find it telling that most if not all of the critics that are ****ting on this movie are from the US. International reviews aren't "divisive" despite acknowledging BvS' short comings.

Honestly reviews in my country are quite bad. Only 4-5/10 so far.

I'm not even sure that bias exists. People have been openly talking about which Marvel movie is going to be the first one to fail. First people assumed it'd be Thor, then they assumed it'd be Avengers, then it was Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man. In a few months you'll start seeing people question if Marvel can pull off Dr Strange. Marvel has plenty of doubters, they've just somehow managed to exceed expectations most of the time.

This has probably been noted already but this is a couple of bad reviews away from being in the 20's on RT.

Curious about something; Marvel puts out strong or at least passable material consistently, no doubt. Bias most probably doesn't exist, but do you think that maybe the hold Marvel has over the genre, because of their constant and consistent input in it, has perhaps created some preconceived notions about how the movies in this genre should look or feel like, at least in terms of tone and themes?

I give the film a 4/10 and I'm being super generous just because of how much I loved certain parts of Batman... I do think it will drop in the 20's also, which is sad, but I can't even complain.

People have a bias for good movies, Marvel just happens to make a lot more of those than DC. Doesn't mean there's a bias for Marvel.

No, theories like this don't give audiences and critics enough credit. They'll easily, I'd say eagerly, accept something new and fresh if the film in question is halfway decent.

Reviews are the same here as well.

People are looking for an ulterior motive/explaination for the reviews because they are unable to grasp that despite all of the awesome comic book imagery and the sheer delight of seeing these DC elements on screen for the first time - the movie simply is not well made.

The Knightmare sequence comes to mind. Hell, I've been following this movie for three years and I didn't understand it. It felt so random and it's never followed up on. I'm not sure I would have even recognized Ezra Miller if I hadn't read that he appeared in the sequence beforehand.

People seem to forget that Marvel Studios isn't the only studio making successful comic book movies.

Fox has had significant success with X-Men, which has a completely different tone.

And Deadpool is the most recent example.
