The Dark Knight Can The Dark Knight win an Oscar

You are wrong, but thats all im going to say, you can badmouth begins all you want. I havent got anything bad to say about someone who quotes Vonnegut jr in their sig carry on good sir, bash away. :O

he's a troll, doesn't listen to him

I say if a we get a truly amazing preformance out of our Harvey Dent, that could win an oscar. It's an incredibly complex role.

Basically these type of films have a long ways before they are respected. Some wont ever respect them as film and thats just their problem not the films, of course when you try as hard as Nolan.

A movie about a rich dude in a batsuit, who drives a tank, and fights oddly named villians can't win an oscar. It might be a very good superhero film, and thats all it might be. Oscars belong to more serous films, that deal with more real issues. Begins tried to be "realstic" but it only succeed at being a great superhero film. Spider-man 2 was also the same way in a sense, and most people relate to peter parker then Bruce Wayne, but it was a great superhero film thats all.

Well the point is people want the things they can relate to strike a chord with them in this way without anything "strange" , this is true, but that doesnt take away the fact that making the surreal into real and giving it actual story is a true artform and perhaps needs its own set of awards.

I think the title being "The Dark Knight" without Batman's name in the title qualifies it to be nominated for Best Picture AUTOMATICALLY...

BECAUSE....it tells me that this movie is being treated SERIOUSLY....it's not being treated like a Batman movie.

LMAO, what?

I don't believe that this one will win a Oscar, because the title is not Batman. You get a Oscar, when everything in the movie is great, actors, director, movie etc.

The Oscars are more credible than any other awards show. They don't nominate movies or people because they're popular. There are no Lindsay Lohan's and Jessica Alba's up for Oscars.

I agree to a point...I mean, they gave Queen Latifah an Oscar. She's now on the same plane as Al Pacino. Sum ting wong with that.

I'm seriously expecting a rated R movie for adults, filled with adult themes, and ten times more serious and real than Batman Begins. I think this movie will be the one that little kids should stay AWAY from. I don't want to see action figures, I don't want toys, t-shirts, NOTHING. I want this movie to be treated like it's The Godfather.

Expect all you want but the WB's only mandate to Nolan is to deliver a PG-13 film. You won't get an R.

And in all honesty there will always be action figures for these types o films. Even if its developed and adult, kids like the flashy side. I was shocked to see them selling aliens and predator action figures at Kaybee toy store lol wow. Violence is wrong kids ;)

JokerNick, about actors being nominated for playing the same character in a sequel. Paul Newman won an Oscar for The Color Of Money and that was a sequel to his movie The Hustler.

Yes, I forgot about that.

Then, as I mentioned, there was also Al Pacino who was nominated for BSA for THE GODFATHER then nominated for BA in THE GODFATHER PART II. Didn't win either, though, which was a travesty.

Im not saying that theres any chance of it, but do you think WB just wants to make a good oscar bait batman movie? call it the dark knight and make it R rated? ok actually no thats stupid it would be the most pretentious and disaterous bomb ever. But i would love this movie to really push the boundaries of pg-13, i mean REALLY push it. I just want a bruce/2 supermodels sex scene!

i dont even think nolan wants a rated r batman movie, i think in a past interview he said he wanted his movies to be family friendly like star wars, something a kid could watch and be amazed, yet something an adult could really respect as a movie.

I dont think R is even necessary. Begins got away with so much and the beauty of it was that it wasnt even needed to be overly graphic. Just because its r doesnt mean its more "mature" necessarily. Lots of horror to me seems to be the most immature stuff ever created.

As for this oscar bait, it wont happen. I think Nolan should just make himself a classy well made fiction film and be happy.

Yep, right XCharlieX...

Know what? I think Nolan's Batman movies could/should be compared to Star Wars (not the prequels) and Indiana Jones...

Long gone is the time where this type of movies would never win an oscar, or be nominated to one......if you don´t believe me, look at LOTR.

Back to the topic, no, it not will win an oscar or be nominated to one.
What´s with Batman and the oscar nomination dream?
Everyone though that Batman Begins would be nominated to one, and, just look at how many nominations it got?
And i don´t mean technical ones...

Lord of the Rings is from a book... apparently inspiration worthy only comes from a book to them so i just feel most well made films of these kinds need their own award ceremony. One that stands for making quality scripts and interesting characters blended with great action. And unfortunately i feel lots of scifi/fantasy would flunk this too heh. *coughpaulanderson

Begins Was Oscar Worthy alone. But hollywood cant get past "Super Hero Movie"

Queen Latifah has never won an Oscar.

So I wonder, who would you have replaced that year with Batman Begins?
-Brokeback Mountain
-Capote
-Crash
-Good Night and Good Luck
-Munich

And Christian "SWEAR TO ME" Bale was on par with the likes of
-Philip Seymour Hoffman
-Terrance Howard
-Heath Ledger
-Joaquin Phoenix
-David Strathhaim

I liked Batman Begins. The best Batman yet. It was good and it's actors were good for what it was. Please don't try to make it anymore than that.

If you mean technical oscar, yeah, sure...
To actors, that always subjective, it´s as worthy as any other movie with great performances....
To best movie......no fu**ing way, not even close to that, Batman Begins is an amazing movie, but ridiculously overrated.

If the filmmakers actually made a movie from some of the best Batman comics with the faithfulness of Sin City then there's a chance.

If the filmmakers keep working in the style we've seen in BB, then no.

They owe Wally Pfister an Oscar for Best Cinematography so hopefully they'll remember that after The Dark Knight :)

I´m sorry, but no....

If they make a movie with the faithfulness of Sin City, you can just kiss the oscar goodbye, and end up with a flop on your hands.
Sin City worked because it´s a crime noir movie, and that blends well with all that faithfulness to the comic and cinematography, but, at the same time, that´s it´s biggest problem.
Sin City is more of a literal translation of the comic book, rather than a movie out of the Sin City comics.

Sorry, but yes. The character of Batman has been around for over six decades. The reason the character has been around so long is that its popular. It's popular in the form that's shown in the comics and animated films. It's only a matter of time before someone in Hollywood realizes that and makes a real Batman film, one that's true to the comics. "Year One" would translate perfectly to the screen with no alterations.

There are a lot of great stories in the six plus decades of Batman comics. At least one of those has to have all the elements of an award winning movie script.
