This week has been a flurry of comic book movie news - Thor, Punisher 2, 30 Day of Night! And today it gets even better! Our friends over at Collider.com heard from Marvel's President of Production, Kevin Feige, that after The Incredible Hulk the next Marvel film will be Captain America! Feige spoke quite a bit about the project and the direction the film would take and that they already have a writer working on the script.
From the interview, Feige said that they don't have a director yet but that David Self is writing the script and they're hoping to get it into the pipeline within the next year. He also spoke about what they're planning to do with the project and whether it would be a period piece or not.
"Well I think we'll certainly have to play with that and play with Captain America being this patriotic propaganda machine on one hand but also being a very human Steve Rogers – interesting, fascinating hero in his own right."
So no chance of a period piece for Captain America? "Right now what we’re developing would be half and half."
Captain America is the superhero first introduced in 1941 known best by the shield he wields and his patriotic uniform. If you're a fan or just want to learn more, I suggest checking out the full quotes from Feige over at Collider.com.
Is anyone else pretty excited to see this coming together? I think Marvel's got the comic book movie genre in the bag right now, give or take DC's Batman, and their upcoming films already in production (Iron Man, Incredible Hulk) are going to be huge. This is going to be an exciting next few years for Marvel.
Read the rest of the updates from Kevin Feige on future Marvel projects as well!

YES!
Finally he's being brought to the big screen but this time it sounds like they know what they're doing with it so that's always good to here. Thanks for posting this great news:yay:

'Bout. Time.

I think this is best. Show Cap in his original element and then move on to his time displacement.

Hope some real headway is made on this.

And it either has to be half & half, or all a period piece culminating in Cap getting frozen. Having it all modern day just wouldn't work.

It opens in Zemo's stronghold.....1945. Cap is tied up tortured....straining at his bonds. His thoughts flash back. Back to his origin just 3 years earlier. Thoughts of his battles and enemies...his girl back home......flood his mind.

Zemo is about to launch his missle at the the U.S. Countdown has started.....Cap snaps out of his haze......he breaks his bonds. He grabs his sheild from one of the guards .....he fights Zemo for the controls. Zemo gets knock off a railing.....too late the rocket is taking off.....Cap grabs a grenade from one of the unconsious Nazis (and running a mile a minute :wow: as he can) getsa running leap plunges his sheild into the rocket's casing to keep a hold. G-forces are pushing him off ....but he manages to plunge the grenade into the hole his sheild made......he and the rocket are over the North Atlantic .....he let's go......the explosion knocks him out and propels him into the drink........

We switch to modern times.............

Somebody take it from there.....:woot:

If you're gonna do that(basically the Ultimate Avengers begining) then why make it a Cap movie at all, just make it the begining of an Avengers movie.

Doesn't have to have Avengers in it. If they decide on 50/50 this is the way to go.

I prefer a 1940's movie myself.....

They gotta get one hell of an actor/star if he's gonna be taking the lead from the likes of Robert Downey Jr. and Edward Norton in an Avengers movie.

I dont know. I want to see modern cap in this film, but at the same time I think having him awakened at the beginning of the avengers would be cool. IDK, maybe freeze him near the end, wake him up and then have him meet Nick Fury. THEN in the avenger have the usual blokes come together and have Fury say "we got the perfect guy to lead you", in walks Cap.

THIS IS OLD NEWS

Check on the date of that article. June 2007.

We already know that the next movie after Hulk is Thor. Thor has been delayed by writer's strike, Captain America movie is lagging far behind.

Well, I'm sure that once this writer's strike is over they'll get into post-production for the film and start working on the script.

There's already a thread that asked the question if the movie should take place during World War 2 or modern day.A WW2 era film would be fantastic.

I'm just saying the website is now proven wrong since Thor, not Cap, is the next movie after the Incredible Hulk.

Yeah, and it makes sense to show more of the character's background like it claims they will in this article. I think that it will help develop the character more and it will be good if they choose to take the character back to his original routes(if they changed it to modern-day, it would be like Sgt. Rock; instead of battling Nazis, he would battle Iraqies... if they did that then it wouldn't work out well).

I'm interested in seeing what they mean exactly by "patriotic propoganda machine." That could be engaging (just the way I like a Cap story to be) or bog down the finished script depending on how you handle it.

Aaron Eckhart would be perfect for Cap.Article Sounds Great.

Since Eckhart is Dent then I'd rather not have him, even though he's good. Same goes for Thomas Jane due to the Punisher. Funny how much those two look alike.

True but still He has that American hero look to him.

Don't hold your breath...I have a friend in holywood, and I can't say much, but the strike is going to be going on for a LONG ass time.

I'd like the first movie to be a full on time piece. Save modern times for the sequel.

Also, Casper Van Dien for Captain America!
