Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 1

With Carol supposedly being the most powerful superhero in the MCU, and assuming they homage a few elements from the original story, is it possible she could take Surfer's role in the Infinity War duology?
where are you getting that she's the most powerful hero in the MCU? Have they stated that? I think Thor, Hulk or even Scarlet Witch, depending how AoU portrays her, could hold that honor

You only keep everything after the = sign, which then goes in the youtube tags.

Well she'd possibly be the most powerful (so far) in terms of variety of powers if they keep her close to her comic book counterpart: Superstrength, flight, energy absorption and projection. Thor and Hulk are stronger, but Thor's other powers are from the hammer. But like you said we don't know the extent of Scarlet Witch's abilities yet.

That's how Feige described her:

"Captain Marvel is one of, if not the most powerful superhero in the Marvel a Cinematic universe."

I love the Carol Danvers and she works great in the Avengers, but giving her a movie of her own is such a "force" on Marvel's part. It's just another push to keep the Captain Marvel name in their stable. This copyright b******t is aggravating. With DC doing a SHAZAM movie it was probably inevitable that Marvel would respond with this. It's ridiculous that the real Captain Marvel can't use his real name because of red tape. :whatever: They are both outstanding characters in their own right. Sorry to ramble, I just needed to say this.

Well, in a way, it's kind of a double response to both Shazam and Wonder Woman at the same time. Killing two birds with one stone.

But really, if you think about it, the general audience would be really confused that a character named Captain Marvel is over at DC if they still had use of the trademark (not copyright, in reference to the name).

Well considering DC sued Captain Marvel off the shelves back when it was at Fawcett for being too much like Superman and wouldn't bring the character back themselves until after Marvel already moved forward with their own Captain Marvel, I have no problem siding with Marvel.

Carol Danvers is such an awesome character, and I'm really eager to see her in a live-action film. It was a pleasant surprise when her movie was announced!

So is Carol going to debut before her movie?

It would be cool if Carol made a cameo appearance in AoU or Civil War as an ordinary pilot and then have a scene (like Quicksilver in DOFP) in GOTG2 already as Captain Marvel, maybe even together with Mar-Vell.

If DC had Captain Marvel still, then Marvel need to come up with a character named Captain DC. :p

The name Shazam sounds better to me for that character than Captain Marvel so I'm good at both ends. SHAZAM!

How is Carol going to meet Mar-Vell in the first place in these movies? Any ideas? How will she even get involved with the Kree? It almost feels like we need a movie where she discovers him first before her own movie.

She could appear in Guardians of the galaxy 2

In most movies, I would say this is what they would call "Act I". However, the MCU isn't most movies...

What I could see happening (taking a very minimalist approach here -- obviously they could expand these roles if it made sense in the larger context of each movie's plot)

- In Civil War, Rhodey could give orders to a fighter pilot codenamed Warbird (or Cheeseburger). They might show a brief in-cockpit response shot, or just have a voice-over response back, or neither.

- In GotG2, there could be a reference to the Kree sending a scouting expedition to Earth -- given about as much attention as the Dr. Strange namedrop in TWS.

^^ In both of these cases, no actor need be cast for the role (if contracts & casting is an issue). Or if they are, it could just be done as a brief cameo.

- In IW1, both will have been cast, so they should definitely have Carol Danvers bickering with a scientist named Dr. Lawson. These two might have about as much screentime as Hill and Sitwell did in Avengers -- pretty minimal overall, but enough to establish them.

Maybe she is already involved with the Kree. For all we know when we first see her, she will already be Captain Marvel and has been on space adventures before returning to Earth to join the Avengers. Her movie could expound upon that and show what she's been up to before this happens with a mix of Mar-Vell in there. I can see him being used like Jean was in The Wolverine, appearing to Carol throughout in dream sequences along the journey with a flashback or two to highlight how she got her powers

So is Carol going to debut before her movie?

While I tend to think so, the fact that Feige said they would hire a director first and then begin casting suggests otherwise. Or, at a minimum, it doesn't suggest she would appear any time soon.

Did Feige say something about her movie being an earthbound adventure? If that's the case, and it's set in the present, then shouldn't it really deal with the current events of Thanos and his army? How can she just ignore what's going on, unless perhaps she is sent off on a mission elsewhere, and that movie deals with that particular event while set against the backdrop of IW1.

That would, of course, give the film a certain urgency right from the start and draw audiences in straight away, because you're dropped straight into the middle of the adventure with everything set up, provided that Carol has already debuted either in GOTG2 or IW1.

IIRC, he actually said something about her spanning between the Earthbound heroes and the cosmic heroes. He made a point to explicitly name the GotG as proof that audiences liked the Cosmic side, and said something about Carol sort of being in both worlds. I'd have to go back and watch the video to get the exact phrasing.

Who would you guys cast as Mar-Vell?
Jensen Ackles? Orlando Bloom? Aaron Eckhart? Scott Porter? Mike Vogel?

Yeah, Marvel is making a movie just to give DC the finger and say 'ha, you can't use this name!'

Right.
