Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 1

When did I ever say that I didn't like him. Oh that's right, NEVER. Pay attention next time. I just don't like the idea that the first female hero to get her own movie essentially takes the mantle of a MALE character. NONE of the other (male) heroes have had to do that. Oh and that was her origins DECADES ago, when gender attitudes were very different.

Too bad, I don't like onions but people are always putting them in things. If I can deal with that, you can deal with Mar-Vell.

And lose the snotty attitude please.

Plenty of male characters have been legacy characters that took their persona and often powers from their predecessor. It has happened before and after Carol Danvers.

At least once in recent years it has happened on the big screen, with Hal Jordan.

There's nothing wrong with legacy characters, Loki just likes to pretend their personal preferences are "The Correct And True Way Things Should Be Done".

And then those pesky other people come along with their own thoughts and opinions and really jam up the works. Oh dear. :(

:cmad:

You take that back right now!

I'd like to see Mar-Vell in Captain Marvel, unless they go with a completely new origin story for Captain Marvel.

Or unless they completely skip her origin by introducing her with super-powers in Civil War or GOTG 2 and simply include a throw-away mention of the origin of her super-powers.

I'm not sure there needs to be a deliberate passing of the mantle/title of Captain Marvel from Mar-Vell to Carol Danvers. I think it would be sufficient if Walter Lawson reveals to Carol that his Kree name is Mar-Vell and if, following Mar-Vell's ... whatever (death or leaving to continue to fight the Kree in space), Carol adopts the super-hero name of Captain Marvel in recognition of her hopeful status in the armed forces (as a Captain) and in honour of Mar-Vell.

I don't think it's a major issue for a male alien to be involved in the circumstances which give a female super-hero or powers. Or if that female character chooses to honour that male alien in adopting a code name. They're very different characters and while Ms Marvel may have once been envisaged as simply a female derivative of Captain Marvel (much like with Batgirl, Supergirl, She-Hulk and others), I think over time she has developed into a fully-formed unique character (much like those other female superheroes).

Yeah. Agreed. I really don't have any issues with her origins, and Carol Danvers has carved out her own spot in the Marvel Universe.

I'm a firm believer in waiting to see how the story plans come together as well. They do seem to be using her as a connection with the cosmic MCU and INHUMANS.

I am thinking she's going to be a featured character in INFINITY WAR PT. 1.

I am so stupidly excited for this movie that I had to brush away some brain cobwebs to remember the password to this site!

I for one do hope that Mar-Vell is included in some way, at the very least in the Infinity War Part 1. I certainly think that Carol should be the one and only Captain Marvel by the time that the credits roll on this film though, and I hope that she plays a pivotal role in stopping Thanos.

I think Katee Sackoff would be a good choice.

YES!! HELL YES!!!! Now that I've seen this, I WON'T accept anyone else in the role!!!!!1!!1!!!

They should dump Boseman as Panther and have Christina Aguilera play the part!!!!!!!111!!!!

I just have to say, it feels surreal to be having all these individual Captain Marvel threads in her own forum. I honestly didn't feel like we were even close to this point at all in the MCU, and now in an instant, it's here! I can tell I'm going to be completely Carol-obsessed by the time this movie finally rolls around. Hell, I'm pretty sure it's already started. I bought 3 Captain Marvel t-shirts yesterday. :D

I'm still not sold on the rumors of Carol in Age of Ultron.

HA - that's awesome!

Although I have been anticipating the announcement of this film for some time, the fact that it is finally a reality is just surreal. I have not been this excited for a Marvel film since Guardians of the Galaxy, but I'm still even more excited for this one. All of the Iron Man movies, Captain Americas, Avengers, etc... I look forward to each and every one of them. This, however, is something special to me. I'm stupid excited, and I too just think that it's so cool that Captain Marvel suddenly has her own full forum.

Now, let's just aim for casting somewhere above the Gal Gadot talent level...

OOOH! From where? I'm considering ordering some shirts from WeLoveFine.

I totally get what you mean about obsessed, though. I'm burning through DeConnick's Captain Marvel run right now, along with Infinity everything.

I honestly haven't been this excited for a Marvel film since the 1st Avengers. And while I'm rooting for Gal to do well because I love WW too, I have to give an AMEN to your last comment. But then, I'm not even worried about that because Marvel has done an A+ job at casting their heroes thus far, imo. I completely trust them on that front by now, so yeah, I'm sure it'll be someone with a legitimate acting resume.

Ha, WeLoveFine is where I got them. They were 15% off with the promo code "SPARKLEFIST15". And yeah, I just started re-reading Kelly Sue's run today too. I really hope the readership for her current book goes up significantly over the next couple of years the way Guardians did, because she deserves it. Her current run with Carol and her space adventures is pretty much my favorite Carol run yet. It's so much fun.

I feel "kinda" bad but :hehe:

I don't really have anything against her, hell I've only seen her in one Fast & Furious movie and admittedly that's not really enough to make much of a judgement on her talent. But damn what an underwhelming choice.

I hope she surprises though.

I ordered some Captain Marvel comics, I only read a few of Kelly Sue's previous volume and figured it was time to catch up!

Agreed, I love Wonder Woman and feel this choice is a huge disappointment. I've only see her in one of the Fast & Furious films as well, and it does make me nervous...especially standing by two much better actors IMO.

With Carol supposedly being the most powerful superhero in the MCU, and assuming they homage a few elements from the original story, is it possible she could take Surfer's role in the Infinity War duology?

Are these fitted T-shirts or loose baggy ones? I hate when T-shirts are too baggy, especially with the sleeves. They particularly make people look like they work in a comic shop.
