Captain Marvel Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

I too immediately thought of Tyrese after reading Ramsus's post. These entertainers need to stop auditioning through the media and on twitter, it's annoying.

I find it odd that people LET that annoy them so much. If you don't like it, don't read/listen to it, simple as that. I couldn't care less what they say/do, it doesn't register with me either way.

I don't mind that she's so successful, because she's earned it to a degree (she's received flack for ducking certain fighters, though). I'm just more frustrated that the other, better women's division in the UFC (the smaller strawweights) doesn't receive even half as much attention.
I hate when people present fake information as facts. She hasn't ducked anyone (it's not possible to fight someone who's suspended for using steroids and then moves to a higher weight class than what her weight was when not using steroids). It's also not possible for a division like the strawweights to be good when it only has two fighter that have any sort of actual skill.

She's just having fun with the Captain Marvel thing, I mean it literally started because she answered a question on a Reddit AMA. That's no reason to lie though. There's not a single woman in MMA that has showed more skill than she has.

More than anything else, it comes off as desperate, especially the bigger the star you are.

It doesn't to me either. Still doesn't mean we can't discuss it.

Carol needs an actress that can balance commanding and professional with adventurous and humorous. It's got to be a characterization where this is a person you buy as someone that is to be taken seriously as a military officer BUT, whom is fun to watch as a protagonist that is thinking on her feet as well.

This discussion is basically Triple H for Thor all over again. I stand a better chance of being elected Pope than Rousey does landing Captain Marvel. They might throw her a bone and give her offer her some C or D list villain or other minor part (like Batroc in TWS) but headling Cap. Marvel? Not a chance.

This.

I dont want her as Carol, or even an important supporting character.

I respect her enthusiasm though, so if she ends up getting something minor, I'd be fine with it.

So, ya'll feel like Spidey has pushed back this and maybe Panther or nah?

well yes, since that's what Marvel said when they added Spidey to their slate of films and shifted all the other titles back a few months...

Love Rousey's passion and enthusiasm. But she is just not right for the role, I'm not offended by the fact though that she is so out there about it.

I just don't see Wilde as Carol, myself. Other Marvel characters, yes, but not Carol.

I could see her as Carol. She wouldn't be my first choice but it's a possibility.

I love Olivia Wilde so much but I honestly always saw her as Zatanna. XD

Given all the buzz and praise she's getting for Room(and Short Term 12, among others, before), and the fact that she's in the sweet spot (age wise and profile wise) that Marvel likes to aim for, I think Brie Larson might be who ends up playing Captain Marvel.

And it doesn't hurt that she's a damn good actress.

Nah, she's fine. She's 26 now, and will be going on 30 when Captain Marvel is set to release.

It seems odd that some people seemingly have their heart set on Carol being in her 40s when her canon age in the comic books is early thirties at most.

That's because Hollywood has historically had a huge problem with casting women of an appropriate age. If a role is written for a woman in her 30's you're lucky if it isn't given to the new 22-year old flavor of the month.

Anne Hathaway recently made some headlines by talking about how she's considered too old to play parts that are explicitly written for women in her age group.

I just saw Room. Yet another phenomenal performance from Larson, and just an incredible movie in general.

I think her age is the only thing keeping her from being my top choice for the role at this point, but if they DO want a younger actress for Carol, she's far and away my top pick for that.

I think that people hope that the Marvel that cast a 46 year old Paul Rudd as Ant-Man don't believe that an actress has to be below the age of 25 in order to play Captain Marvel. I love plenty of younger actresses but they shouldn't be the only ones scoring roles. The extreme ageism towards actresses is disgusting and I want it to stop.

Brie Larson in 2018 (when they will probably start filming) is the only really young actress that I hope gets the role.

Exactly.

And to add to that, Carol Danvers is one of the few Marvel characters we've gotten who had a pretty well-established career experience before becoming a superhero, so there should be a pretty clear target age. In the old comics, she's an Air Force major, for which the average age is 33. Since we can assume she's one of the best who rose through the ranks rather quickly, your target range for an actress to play that version would probably be ages 28-35. However, in current comics, she's a colonel with a lot more authority, and the average age for a colonel in the Air Force is...ready for this? Age 45. It is straight up IMPOSSIBLE to become a colonel in today's Air Force in your 20's. So the target range for that version of Carol should be late-30's to late-40's.

Of course they don't have to go with either of those ranks - maybe they'll split the difference and make her a Lt. Colonel - but my point is simple. I just want Marvel to cast Carol at an age appropriate to her experience (whichever rank/experience they choose to give her), as they have done now with Ant-Man (a divorced father formerly respected in his field), Captain America (a young man who volunteered to serve his country during wartime), Thor (an immature young prince), Rhodey (another decorated Air Force Colonel), etc.

Couldn't have said it better myself my friend. There are good reasons, unrelated to the disgust of Hollywood sexism, why people are fan casting actresses in their early 30's to early 40's.

Rhoda as She-Hulk would be nice. Wilde as Carol is a good choice as well.

But please, don't make her invincible.

Her talents would be best served as civilian #7 with no lines.

I dont want someone thats mid to late 40s bc Id hope that whomever they cast they plan to use in sequels and other related MCU for at least 10 years. I dont want to see a near 60 year old Captain Marvel. Early 30s to start for the role would be ideal and she could have a good run with the role as she nears mid 40s.
