Marvel needs Carol cast before Infinity War and SDCC was the best time to announce her. I thought this was all common knowledge.

Yeah, the Russos already confirmed she's in IW. Whether or not its the 1st installment or the 2nd is up for debate, but either way, they're shooting as part of one big shoot that starts in November so she needed to be cast now.

You think Rhodey will show up in the solo film? Whether it be a flashback or not. Personally I'd like to see him cameo, although I wasn't a fan of him in Civil War

I'd certainly LIKE to see Rhodey in it. Not in a romantic capacity, but he is a fellow Air Force officer after all, so it makes sense.

If Carol is to have any romantic relationship, then it needs to be with Mar-Vell. Imagine a badass fighter pilot falling in love with some guy, who turns out to be a blue space alien spying on humans. After the accident, that connection that they share is taken to another level. Carol gets Mar-Vell's powers and retains his memories. Mar-Vell dies in her arms. I mean, there's massive storytelling potential there.

Oh, definitely not in a romantic capacity. I could see them finding a role for him...Marvel usually likes to have other heroes pop up so the GA definitely knows it's in the MCU. Falcon in Ant-Man, Stark in Spider-Man Homecoming, etc. As long as it'd make sense and with the Air Force connection, it probably would.

Who would base a superhero on some of your own tweets? :o

Emily Carmichael, I remember her.

How reliable is Jeff Sneider? Because the whole rumor appears to be based on a tweet of his, unless I'm missing something.

Dear all media everywhere: Stop proclaiming the death of the superhero movie STOP PROCLAIMING THE DEATH OF THE SUPERHERO MOVIE

Spoken like a true Captain Marvel contender...

Carmichael seems to be a huge Squirrel Girl fan by the way, even going as far as cosplaying as her.

I feel dumb because it took me a few minutes to get it. :funny: Thanks for the laugh.

He's reliable. He works for The Wrap which is a Hollywood trade site.

I wouldn't be surprised if Carmichael gets the job. Marvel usually gets those directors who haven't really jumped on to the scene yet and ones who tend to be fans and understand the character.

I would be very surprised. Every director Marvel has hired has directed at least one feature film, Carmichael hasn't directed any features, just shorts. You'd really be throwing her in the deep end.

Some Brie Larson haters make the point that she's never been in an action role before. Exactly how relevant is this fact? James Gunn says actors rarely ever do their own stunts. So, what impossible hard thing do actors really have to do? I think winning an Oscar is easier than doing action scenes. Just saying.

Nah, she's currently writing/directing that Powerhouse film for Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow, so she'd have a high profile feature under her belt by the time she gets to this. She's also writing Pacific Rim 2. She's being groomed for big things, imo.

If Martial Arts were involved it might be an issue
A character who is a top notch hand-to-hand fighter requires the actor to at least look convincing enough to do the close-ups, and if they can do some of their own stunts, all the better

but a powerhouse character with energy beams and flight and whatnot? She just has to be able to superhero-pose well, and I don't think she'll have an issue learning that.

Plus she's got what, three years before her solo? So if she needs to look good fighting, she has plenty of time to train

Reading up on Powerhouse, she was only just hired to write/direct that this past May. No release date on it, or filming date, but I'd say the earliest that's coming out is mid-2018.

I think that takes Carmichael out of the running completely, Capt Marvel would have to be filming by March 2018 (with a year of pre-production before that), she can't do both at the same time.

Throw co-writing Pacific Rim 2 on top of all that, I don't see how she gets CM.

Honestly, I can totally see MS hiring Carmichael. Yeah, she might be an out-of-the-box choice but she wouldn't be their first one.

Oh my God, they're right, she's never been in an action movie before. And now that I think of it, she's probably never even piloted a plane, or flown in space!
If only gyms, stunt(wo)men and special effects existed, but alas, they don't, so this flick is doomed. Feige, how could you.

... Movies. They have been around for over a hundred of years, and yet there are still people who don't understand how they work.

EDIT: Well, this is weird.

My view is that some actors/actresses are able to just throw themselves into it and naturally look convincing in action scenes whereas others dont, no matter how much stunt training they do (for every Daniel Craig there's a largely limp-wristed Pierce Brosnan) so if an actor/actress has never done that kind of work before its 50/50 whether you are getting the former or the latter.

Fingers crossed though. Marvel havent let us down yet.

This may be the case, but the truth is, we simply don't know yet. A start date/release date for Powerhouse could be announced in the next couple months, and for all we know, she could be just about done with it by the end of 2017. And PR2 is irrelevant because that has an early 2018 release date, and she's just a co-writer so her part on it will have been done looooong before that. There are just too many unknown factors to rule her out of the running already, imo.

Also good for Brie on that directing gig. Looks like she'll be keeping plenty busy in the next couple years.

I agree, but Grace Randoloh, on Behind The Trailers has been taking potshots at our hero and I just wanted everyone's opinion. :cmad:

Ugggghhhhhh... Don't even get me started on that obnoxious hypocrite.

I don't understand why people pay attention to that lady.

She's bat**** crazy. She had a video criticizing Brie's hat pose after the casting announcement saying that it was too "sexy" and that somehow it would affect her likability and people's perception of Marvel's first female solo superhero movie. How the hell do people even come to conclusions like that?

But Grace Randolph in general....

You guys wanna see somebody REALLY crazy? look up "Future XM DCComics Zone" on YT, that guy is a total loon. :loco:
