Captain Marvel Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 3

Kevin Feige also promised us we would be getting an Inhumans movie recently lol. Captain Marvel is safe. The film will happen now that Mr Perlmutter is thankfully out of the picture.

The only worry is if it gets pushed back again to make room for Doctor Strange 2 or something.

I don't think there's any way she gets pushed back again. Her story fits perfectly between IW1 and 2 (if I have my way and we see Carol in IW1).

^ LOL

Seriously though, Marvel just needs to keep doing what they're doing.

Their female superhero presence has been steadily increasing. Should it have been bigger from the get-go? Yes. But there's no fixing the past.

What they definitely should not do is change their plans in order to beat DC to the punch. I want quality work, and that type of decision making is not conducive to making good movies.

Just ask WB.

Meanwhile WB will have a Wonder Woman movie coming out in 2017 and is planning on a Gotham City Sirens movie featuring Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman in 2018.
Even if a Captain Marvel movie does get made it won't come out until 2019.

"Plans" is a generous term when it comes to WB's DCEU. Obviously, Wonder Woman will come out soon. However, after that, they tend to be so reactionary that know one knows what they'll do next.

All that being said, it isn't really a competition. I think Marvel can be rightly subjected to criticism for not having a female-led movie and the announcement of Wonder Woman can add to that criticism, but they announced Captain Marvel long before Gotham City Sirens was announced, so it's hard to criticize them for that. They've locked in their Phase Three plans. Who knows what they'll do for Phase Four.

Plus don't forget Ant-Man and Wasp, so phase 3 will have two Female led (or at least co-led) films

Quoting another poster from another thread, because I'm lazy like that. It seems like Carol Danvers is now officially be confirmed to be in the first IW movie; if this thing is to be believed, that is.

That lonely "Academy Award winner" sure does sound damn good, doesn't it? :hehe:

lol, that seems like some major bs
I don't think casting calls really list off all the actors in a film
and they definitely don't list all their 'Saturn' 'Empire' and 'Teen Choice' award nominations

I agree. I'm skeptical... Although that doesn't mean it won't turn out exactly like that. But that kind of talent/award sound-off is... Unusual to say the least.

We were already told multiple times that her movie would be an origin story so unless it's all done in flashbacks, I'm gonna call bs.

I know I sound like a broken record, but Brie could be in IW1 pre-Kaboom. The call, however, sounds weird.....sounds like some fan took the call and inserted his or her descriptions.

No, I agree. That's my theory too. That's why listing her as "Captain Marvel" and not just "Carol Danvers" would make no sense.

Marvel is changing Captain Marvel's comic origin:
https://moviepilot.com/p/captain-mar...origin/4175228

The Mighty Captain Marvel #0 seems to change Carol Danvors' origin to it now happening in space and it's described as a "freak accident". This removes Captain Mar-vell from her origin, and makes it more of a freak accident is how she got her powers. I do have a theory that she was abducted by the Kree while she was in space and experimented on, but that's just a theory.
Superhero origins change all the time, just look at Scarlet Witch and QuickSilver. Changing from being the children of Magneto and being mutants, to being experiments by the High Evolutionary. It didn't really change much about them. So I'm indifferent to Captain Marvel's origin change because other than cutting Mar-Vell out and being in space, it's not entirely different.
Her new origin reminds me a lot of the Fantastic Four's origin; as it's about someone going to space , and a freak accident happening. This change to her origin also makes sense for her upcoming movie, Mar-Vell isn't in the MCU, and Marvel wants Carol Danvers to be her own thing. The only thing I'm really worried about with Captain Mar-vell not being in the MCU is it makes putting Hulkling (Young Avengers member and Mar-vell's son) in the MCU a little harder, and I really want to see the Young Avengers in the MCU.

Well if Mar-Vell isn't going to be part of this, then what would be a reason to call her Captain Marvel after the change?

Maybe it's the superhero codename that Carol chooses for herself.

Anyway, just found this on Larson's twitter. Heh.

Sarcastic military nickname. Or someone at the Pentagon thinks it sounds catchy. Think the Iron Patriot joke from Iron Man 3. "War Machine sounded too aggressive."

I really dont think she needs a reason to be called Captain Marvel. If they come up with one then fine but if not, no big deal

well knowing the MCU, she'll probably only get called that once at most
maybe "Marvel" will be her call sign (ala 'Maverick') and when she gets promoted they call her that

its one of my small pet-peeves about the Marvel U, so hesitant to use the superhero names.... only Steve regularly gets called 'Cap'

that doesnt bother me considering they dont have secret identities. Ant Man and Spider-man got called by their codenames bc they do. There is alot more transparency with them and it makes sense that when talking to each other, they would use their actual names given their relationships. Outsiders tend to use the codenames and that makes sense for those interactions

We all know she'll get the name from a cute little Pakistani-American girl who sees her flying.

There's very little rhyme or reason for which characters are actively called by their codenames anyway. Black Widow's been in 5 movies and has been referred to by that name maybe three times. And one of them was only in Russian.

I loved how annoyed and distracted she was in that scene. That might have been her best scene period. It reminded me of my wife when something happens to a piece of her clothing. LOL.

If you want a laugh someone on Reddit has some very obviously fake casting details including Joel Edgerton as Yon-Rogg.
