Captain Marvel Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 3

Someone mentioned that if this takes place in the '90s then that means the skrulls have 20-30 years to plan their secret invasion. That's an intriguing idea

I know Carol is powerful and all, but She is going to have other heroes to help out, right?. The Kree, Skrulls stuff feels almost like an Avengers level type threat.

The California Film Commission announced on Monday the eight films that will receive a share of $68 million in tax credits as part of the state’s Film & TV Tax Credit Program 2.0, and leading the list is Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel,” which will be released in 2019.

“Captain Marvel” will be the first Marvel movie shot primarily in California since “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” It is one of three films with budgets of over $75 million receiving tax breaks in this round, along with “Midway” and “Island Plaza”

Awesome. Hopefully they can get California Love on the soundtrack!

With the timeline being decades past and use of both Kree and Skrulls I think Carol's film is the official set up for the next big over arching plot to be threaded through the various films and culminating in a team-up film, post the A4 MCU status quo. So I am thinking something that more or less looks like a mash up of THE KREE/SKRULL WAR, OPERATION GALACTIC STORM and SECRET INVASION to one degree or the other.

This would give Carol a place of primacy in the MCU and on the Avengers as this would be a story involving a threat she has firsthand knowledge of.

Captain Marvel is a top tier Avengers level character

Time Dilation and Kree Powers are probably reasons why Carol doesn't age 20+ years.

Thats what i figured too
If shes blasting around space at near light speed she should be experiencing time more slowly right?
But then Quill should look a bit younger than his age too though... idk

Who would be able to help? If it's a 90's period piece, Cap hasn't been unfrozen, Tony and Rhodey don't have their armors yet, Bruce Banner hasn't become the Hulk, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch haven't gotten powers (they might not even have been born, depending on the year), Vision doesn't exist, Wakanda is still isolated, the Guardians haven't formed yet and Black Widow would be a child.

I guess Thor is technically possible, but I feel "Hey I teamed up with a superhero a couple of decades before I met you guys" would have come up at some point in one of the Avengers movies.

Dude, she can fly through the sun. Don't worry, she's got this.

Would Hank Pym be active as a Superhero in the 90's?

this would be an opportunity to introduce new characters not worry about retrofitting existing ones

The only thing is, those "new" characters would either need to die in the fight or get stuck out in space (or wherever she is) with her, otherwise the same "where the hell have they been" question arises.

Yeah that would be great if they could find a way for it to work.

Why is that a "thing"? I don't see a problem with it. As we saw in Age of Ultron, there is precedence for killing off a hero on first outing and space is expansive and has only been touched upon in the Guardian films. There is no reason why a cosmic hero would have already been seen. Not to mention Ant Man showed us that heroes existed in the MCU before the films started

Well, space is very big, so I don't think introducing new characters during Carol's space adventures will be a problem.

It might be cool to see characters we already know in supporting roles. But I would guess that the majority of characters will be new.

We just have to assume that the new characters won't have crossed paths with the Guardians or Avengers between Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 (in the fictional timeline).

Carol foiling the plans of a particular Skrull operation is more than plausible. Ending the threat the Empires of the Kree and Skrulls' pose to Earth? That might be more a team up deal.

Well James Gunn has hinted Quasar will be in Guardians 3, and it likely won't be the original. I guess the Captain Marvel movie could in theory introduce Wendell Vaughn and then have him die near the end set things up for a successor in Guardians 3.

If we don't get Ronan in this I'm going to be pissed off.

Freakin' hated seeing him basically dying because of a stupid dance off. Lee Pace absolutely owned his role and I want to see so much more of him.

By "thing" I didn't mean something that should prevent it, I'm just saying it's an addendum that pretty much automatically gets attached to any significant character included.

I still suspect the most likely answer is "Carol has been out in space the whole time". She's not lost or imprisoned, she's just been busy.

I still think that Carol is part of a team in her movie and that team includes Hank Pym.

When did Janet disappear?

Hank Pym resigned from SHIELD in 1989 and Janet disappeared a couple of years prior to that. So I don't think we'll be seeing either one in this movie. And depending on what year this movie will be, Howard Stark may be dead at this point. My money is still on Peggy Carter showing up.

I saw Brie Larson in Free Fire just a month or two ago. She definitely has screen presence. It's funny to me seeing as she was in an episode of Community 4 years ago. And had a small part in 21 Jump Street in 2012. I had no idea who she was until I heard about the Oscar talk in 2015.

wait maybe I did know since I saw Short Term 12, but can't remember if that was in 2015 or 2014.
