I remember Russell Crowe talking about turning down superhero roles saying he'd never wear tights, then ending up in a Superman film where they gave Jor-El tights (fancy, Wilkinson-designed tights, but tights nonetheless) even though they absolutely did not have to.
But yeah, the stigma's been long gone. There are basically just a few pretentious filmmakers (who, let's be real, are annoyed at the budgets these films get while they struggle to get their passion projects funded) still singing that tune.
