This shot keeps sticking with me, and in a great way!

I wish they were showing her whole figure, cause I think her right knee is drawn up, and it reminds me of THIS so damn much!

The hair is doing that though. It’s just falling down from being powered up.

As for the orbed hand power... what works in comic illustration doesn’t always work in live action.

Heard somewhere her hair defies physical law though. Meanwhile it’s totally logical to push a submarine underwater to the surface. That really takes a lot more than just being strong no matter how absurdly superhero level strong.. :)

What?

Still irks me to this day no one can get a DBZ movie right. So much potiental
I think there's more potential in a female Asian superhero like Sailor Moon actually, especially after Wonder Woman practically ripped off her costume! :funny:
No seriously I rather watch Sailor Moon played by an actual Asian actress...

Acclaimed 'Captain Marvel' Comic Writer Kelly Sue DeConnick Consulted on the Movie

Film visited the set of Captain Marvel (read our full set visit interview with Larson here) and learned that Kelly Sue DeConnick consulted on Captain Marvel. Larson revealed:

Oh gosh. I have to admit that talking with her was so surreal. I feel like I just blacked out. I felt really nervous because it’s this thing that, this woman that she created, that I feel very certain she knows way better than I do. I just was so honored to receive her blessing and to see how excited she was. And that felt like a relief to me. Because she pushed this forward, you know? We wouldn’t be here without her, really. And I’m so grateful for that character that she created, and now we’re just kind of following the breadcrumb trail that she made, you know?

I hope this does well.

The likes bar far outweigh the dislikes bar but the comment section is ridiculously negative on some of the youtube pgs for 2nd trailer (ugh...Video automatically embedded; just click youtube on video to be transferred to page to see comments; many are ridiculous and unreasonable but can't help but but be perplexed at how many negative there are): or

Internet reactions can certainly swing like a pendulum especially given proper momentum through the right source but this is Marvel Studio's film that's garnered lots of goodwill from the outset so a bit strange and surprised to be reading through some of the comments but still hoping for the best from the movie.

My own personal reaction was still felt bit like the 1st trailer. The Fury voiceovers, scene with the cat, and prolonged scene with old lady probably unnecessary for further trailers and TV clips that will come up closer to release I think. Some more dynamic emotional scenes to spice things up marketing wise probably wouldn't hurt as well either. That being said, I thought it was a great trailer. The space scenes were exciting. Overall, I still like the 1st better though.:yay:

Those shots do look similar!

You said they were critiquing Halle's "over the top cheesy look".. Sorry if I misinterpreted your meaning, but I was just responding to the initial comment... and yeah, that movie had so much going against it (probably including some underlying racial resentment) that it was going to get savaged no matter what

That's then a reaction to her past performances and a general dislike of the actress, but again has little to do with her "performance" in a trailer

1) I don't quite understand what those words in that order are supposed to mean, and 2) I legitimately never saw that in my time here, but provided with evidence I would be happy to concede. But from what I recall, JLaw was not the focus of most people's skepticism about that movie.

Everyone is welcome to critique trailers and make initial impressions of a film based off of them... it's the level of criticism for this film and this actress that seems unusual, at least amongst other, similarly-marketed MCU films.

Also, no need to condescend, it's an ugly look on anyone... you should try smiling more :oldrazz:
I don't even care that much but I'll be courteous to your post as you were to mine and address your points.

Sorry if I was not 100% clear. I was talking about how the Catwoman film itself just looked cheesy in every way from the actors acting, (Sharon Stone can be added to the list of Oscar nominees / winners being criticized for their acting in cbm) to the direction, to just the entire production.

Also where in my original post did I say it was needing to be based on one trailer? You literally came up with that on your own. But for the sake of argument...

Your main argument seems to be everything matters when judging an actor except when it comes to Brie Larson. Like her political views and her general personality don't have any bearing on people's views of her too. Again, this isn't new or different for her so the whole self-righteous thing seems a little disingenuous.

I will say I'm not responding to you in a vacuum. I was only addressing you with the same tone you did to me. My grandmother always said "you get what you give", however, it's not my intention to be seen aggressive again, it's not that deep to me.

brie larson is a great actress, people out here sayin she lackin presence or charisma seem to forget its the way the character is supposed to act

i mean she did lost her memory, lets wait & see...

Well you know, perhaps that's exactly the problem. We should start considering the possibility that choosing to market the movie as "generic sci-fi starring amnesiac emotionless superhero vs. some underwhelming-looking alien baddies" may have been a mistake.

Only time will tell if it was, but things aren't looking bright right now. The 2nd trailer just kind of came and went, and it seems to have attracted more criticism than praise.

Don’t let the handful of negative people fool you. It’s clear some are looking for things to dislike given that the main critique thus far is the “performance” of Brie in a trailer that shows maybe .5% of her actual performance. I’m on Twitter and reddit and the trailer was warmly received in most circles that I’ve seen.

I pretty much agree with this guy on the trailer.
And looking at the comments it is not THAT small of a minority of people who aren't feeling these trailers especially for a marvel movie.

I don't like Jahns that much but he's not an idiot. It's not just nitpicky nerds that aren't feeling these trailers, I'm seeing a lot of reasonable people (and no, I'm not including myself, because I know I'm not reasonable :o) expressing concerns about the movie.

It's as if Marvel thought they could sell the movie by just hammering people about how FEMALE and STRONG its protagonist is. That's not how it works, you need a hook. And if you ask me the hook should have been "Marvel's sassy, funny new hero finds herself in the middle of a galactic war! Here's her blowing up alien ships to the tune of this popular 90s song!"

But nope, for some reason they seem to believe we really care about the amnesia thing.

I agree that both trailers have been underwhelming, and whoever put them together should have featured the heart and humor that have endeared us to these MCU characters. I don't blame Brie since she has proven to be more than capable of making Carol yet another beloved Marvel hero. But Feige and company aren't providing a compelling reason to watch the movie featuring this superhero over the many other options.

My guess is that Carol is either a version of X-23 (Super weapon hidden away by her mother/handler) or Hazel from Saga (offspring of soldiers from two warring races). A problem may be that Marvel Studios wants to keep her background a secret, making for a much less satisfying trailer than the ones for Ragnarok or Black Panther. Hopefully this will be rectified going forward.

I thought the trailer was solid, I'm really liking the look of the dymanic between Carol and Fury. The vibe I am getting from the movie is similar to the first Thor movie.

I, for one, do find it interesting. This is Marvel's 19th or 20th movie I think? And it's their 5th origin too, isn't it? I'm actually glad they're trying to twist the formula a little, because I thought Ant-Man and Dr. Strange were their weakest movies (because they were so strightforward) from recent time and I don't want a repeat of that.

Lol as soon as theres a funny trailer cue the all the marvel movies are comedies morons.

This randomly makes me want to see a team-up between CM and Wasp.

It seemed that that was what we were discussing though, people's critiques of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, based basically off trailers alone... a lot of people aren't terribly familiar with her outside of maybe supporting roles in Jump Street or Scott Pilgrim, and she certainly doesn't have the name recognition of the other actresses you mentioned, despite her awards. You also made no mention of her politics or her previous roles before, so I assumed we were still discussing "judging an actor based off a trailer"

but thank you for the slightly more civil response

I think the skull mask/make up may be a bit too thick. In the comics it's just the chin that's different, but there's a lot more going on here to the extent I worry about how it will hinder facial movement. It also looks a bit odd to me, especially the purple head pigmentation that's clearly meant to be reminiscent of the classic helmets. It just looks like the concept artists or fx team felt they were being clever that day.

She has recently become very political while accepting at an awards show stating:
“I don’t need a 40-year-old white dude to tell me what didn’t work about A Wrinkle in Time. It wasn’t made for him. I want to know what it meant to women of color, biracial women, to teen women of color.”
This was discussed here at length before we had set photos. You really think that things like this don't color people's perspectivem?

Not to mention her breaking the internet post on social media about her ET cover that... didn't break the internet. There are plenty more if you follow her on social media. She comes across as arrogant and that is not well liked by summer blockbusters leading actors. Some actors have been blacklisted for saying less than she has.

I was thinking the same thing as I watched this.
