Captain Marvel Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 9

Fair, but I'm sure Avengers will have his "last" cameo as he was. This would've been a cool chance to have a "younger" Stan Lee cameo just once in the MCU.

I've got a pretty stupid nitpick but I thought I'd air it.

Was anyone else bothered they didn't "young" Stan Lee up for his cameo so he looked like he did in Mallrats? It would've been pretty easy considering Samuel L. Jackson was de-aged the entire film. I mean, this is a studio who de-ages so many characters, it would've been fun if they did it here.

Stupid nitpick over.
I'd have to see his cameo again but I thought he was deaged to his mid-90s self, which didn't look too different from his 2010s self.

Uh... Go to Youtube and check out his Mallrats scene. He is NOTICEABLY a younger man than even his first MCU film cameo. This was thirty years ago after all.

I've seen the cameo before, nonetheless Stan aged well!

Sorry, but I haven't read through all 9 threads and was only able to read a few pages of this thread because this site makes my laptop a bit slow sometimes... but, I saw the movie on Thursday. Loved it quite a bit. I thought it was a lot of fun, had heart, I loved all the characters, and I really can't wait for Endgame now. Having been just a few years younger than Carol in the same year this took place it hurt my heart a little to see the 90s mocked so, but everything said was *so true*, so it felt a bit like "it's ok for me to pick on my sister, but don't you dare!" than lack of accuracy. haha. I'm ambivalent about the Fury eye lost bit, but he does have perfectly straight, three lines of scars in the other movies, so it does make sense continuity wise. And seeing how mysterious he can be, it makes sense that he wouldn't ever tell anyone how it happened and of course everyone would assume the most badass way. But I think his line in Cap: WS is 1) a bit of hyperbole to be dramatic with Steve and 2) possibly true and the last person he trusted was Carol, until the people he currently trusts, which is Maria and Cap.

I'll go back and try and read as much as I can now.

It's my favorite since Iron Man and could even surpass Iron Man on rewatches.
There are definitely layers to this story and levels to the overarching narrative of the movie that would benefit from rewatches.

What I don't understand is the "she has no arc" complaints. Carol Danvers probably goes through the most drastic change that any of the MCU heroes did in their origin stories

I don't really get the "same old Marvel formula" bit. I thought it quite a bit different than most. In any case, it seems like the people who wanted to sabotage the movie aren't yammering as much as they were.

Just after seeing it Thursday night, I knew it'd be an MCU movie I will rewatch plenty. I plan on seeing it again sometime this week and picking it up in 4K the day it comes out.

Definitely. It's there. Carol already has become a favorite character in the MCU for me and I can't wait to see her in Endgame.

It felt different to me too. Whether that was the way the origin story wasn't linear, to the villain, etc. Even the humor in this felt different and I thought it had more of a serious tone in a way. The humor was still there, but none of it really felt forced.

Definitely enjoyed the movie, looking forward to seeing it again. I think the biggest flaw for me was that it lacked a singular vision.

When I saw the
Endgame sequence that was obviously directed by the Russos, it was in a completely different league than CM.

I just felt like the CM directing team was probably not prepared for a movie like this.

Yes to all but especially the first 2 points. I really liked how the story unfolded as the movie progressed. I think Brie did Carol really well. Humor, but with an underlying seriousness and (mega) toughness. A role model for women AND men. I think the writers struck gold. Really nice job. As far as the directing, I didn't have a problem with it at all. The tone was right for this movie. What tone and feel might work for one movie doesn't necessarily work for another.

Yes, the Russo's use of GREY!!!! in their cinematography makes them far superior filmakers

LOL. And then will come the complaints about how dull and muted the Marvel cinematography is. Ya can't please everyone.:D

Yes to all of that and I think the combination of all of that is what made it feel “different”. I can’t explain why but there were moments too where it felt like an “indie” film. An example being the backyard scene with Carol, Maria, and
Talos

I felt the cinematography was fine in cm but some of the action scenes were lit too dark hope they fix that in the home release, I ...might be ignorant but seems like an easy fix.
