Carrie Fisher suffers heart attack

So sad to see this but as I said in my first post on this thread just after her heart attack, I was very concerned by the time involved in getting her medical help and the fact that her not breathing and if it was true that it was cardiac arrest (her heart stopped) that the lack of oxygen to the brain for that amount of time may have meant if she had lived it would have been as an invalid. Or if there was significant damage to the heart muscle, that could cause other complications.

I was hopeful yet concerned by the reports that were coming out. Usually if someone has survived a heart attack they are at least alert after a catheterization has cleared the blockage. So reports that she was "stable" don't mean much if she wasn't fully alert or had significant brain and/or heart damage.

This is as significant a death to Star Wars as Leonard Nimoy was a couple years ago to Star Trek, but more tragic because she was so young, but I know first hand that it doesn't mean much as my mother passed at 62 to cancer. Even more-so I feel terrible for her family and friends, and send my deepest prayers and condolences.

My hope now is that the family have privacy so they can grieve for a loved one. I am glad that we got to see her one last time as the princess we grew up with.

God speed Carrie!

Yeah. That 15 minutes before they could get a pulse boded ill. I wanted to be optimistic, but had a very bad feeling about it. My wife used to work at the UCLA medical center and her take was that it didn't look good.

This is the sad part. All we have now are memories and very little to look forward to. I don't even know how I'm going to feel when I watch Ep 8. In particular, my heart goes out to her family and those closest to her. We are all suffering some level of heartbreak. Imagine how they feel.

Well Harrison's been known NOT to talk to the press that often anyway. I must have missed something that said Carrie and Harrison don't talk to each other.
My Ex and I were married 18 years, we got divorced mostly because she had health issues that thought would end her, long story short WE talk to each other alot, we're best friends. Why wouldn't they be civil?

They apparently had some issues and I am sure the new book wouldn't help. But Harrison is a class act. If he says anything, it will be the words of a gentleman, I am sure.

Do you realize how many stars have been taken in the last THREE DAYS alone? In the last HOUR another two have been reported to have passed. It's up to I think SEVEN in celebs ALONE, all in different fields that have inspired hundreds at a MINIMUM. Yes, I still morn a brother who was EIGHT years young than I am, and passed in 2014, it helps to blame SOMETHING. For many of us the people who have been taken this year were childhood heroes an inspiration of some sort to get them to where they are today.
Carrie was just one of the more popular of the stars to have passed this year it's easy to take out aggression felt on a THING than on SOMEONE and move on, other than it being a fact we're at a record loss of stars

I understand that. It's that IIRC, people were saying the same thing in 2009 about all the celebrity deaths that occured that year. But I'm not gonna say anything else here. Not worth getting infracted over.

I'm sorry about your brother BTW.

Let people grieve. If they try to make 2016 into a sentient being, then let them think so. They're not hurting anyone and let's face it, even the naysayers probably thought at first before going into 'logical Spock' mode.

Yeah, Ford is somewhat reclusive, but the people on the net who were implying he would say nothing were just nuts. He was obviously going to release a statement that was kind. Whatever he thought or felt about her -- that was a no-brainer.
Their careers took totally different paths after Star Wars so it was more a situation of having grown apart as friends/costars or whatever.

But for those 6 years they ware part of something huge that no one could have predicted.

He did release a statement.

“Carrie was one-of-a-kind…brilliant, original,” he said in a statement to PEOPLE. “Funny and emotionally fearless. She lived her life, bravely…My thoughts are with her daughter Billie, her mother Debbie, her brother Todd, and her many friends. We will all miss her.”

Watched her in The 'Burbs a while back too, she's great as the skeptic housewife character.

I just wondered what he was going to say, because he wasn't listed among the people paying tributes in the first list that someone posted. I could just as easily have asked what her other co-stars would say, or other people from the Star Wars franchise like Samuel L Jackson or Natalie Portman. But the first person I thought of at the time was Harrison Ford because he was the obvious person to think of since he was a main co-star of hers. I don't see how that suddenly translates into saying he wouldn't say anything. It seems you read more into it than there was.

Mark Hamill's longer reply on FB:
It's never easy to lose such a vital, irreplaceable member of the family, but this is downright heartbreaking. Carrie was one-of-a-kind who belonged to us all- whether she liked it or not. She was OUR Princess, damn it, & the actress who played her blurred into one gorgeous, fiercely independent & ferociously funny, take-charge woman who took our collective breath away. Determined & tough, but with a vulnerability that made you root for her & want her to succeed & be happy. She played such a crucial role in my professional & personal life, & both would have been far emptier without her. I am grateful for the laughter, the wisdom, the kindness & even the bratty, self-indulgent crap my beloved space-twin gave me through the years. Thanks Carrie. I love you, mh

Steven Spielberg's statement:
I have always stood in awe of Carrie. Her observations always made me laugh and gasp at the same time. She didn’t need The Force. She was a force of nature, of loyalty and of friendship. I will miss her very much.

Disney CEO Bob Iger's statement:
Carrie Fisher was one-of-a-kind, a true character who shared her talent and her truth with us all with her trademark wit and irreverence. Millions fell in love with her as the indomitable Princess Leia; she will always have a special place in the hearts of Star Wars fans as well as all of us who were lucky enough to know her personally. She will be sorely missed, and we join millions of fans and friends around the world who mourn her loss today.

Diego Luna's tweet:
Sad day this 27th... Sad news...
SALUD POR CARRIE FISHER!!

Wasn't talking about your post in particular. But after reading elsewhere some folks were implying he would remain mum -- which I found ridiculous I thought maybe it was more of the same.

But -- "I wonder what Ford will say." just struck me as odd.

He will 99.999% most likely same a few kind words I thought. (and shortly after he did)-- anything else would have been a straight up shock.

It's like I had a delayed reaction to this news. First I was angry, now I'm just upset. :(

Just got back from seeing Rogue One again for the second time.

Have to admit I got a bit choked up at the ending...

As I said, you read to much into it. I was just waiting to hear his tribute. That's all it was. It didn't have to be Ford, but he was the first and most obvious person I thought of at the time. What was odd was you saying "yeah, right" which led me (and maybe others here) to believe YOU were suggesting he wasn't going to say anything.

hahaha I'm fine with my brother Thank you! I'm just saying people need something to blame, something to remain SANE.
2016 is just something most people are accusing of stealing their heroes. For ME it's "Myth taking them into legend" I'm fine with them doing that because it's a release. You can't keep that crap pent up no matter what you believe, it's not healthy.
I do believe my brother's with me ,WE influenced each other I guess to the point that our personalities we're exactly the same, My kids and niece say it's sometimes scary lol

Carrie was an inspiration to two of my friends as I've said they are Bipolar too. I'm sure She was an influence for them

Yeah, they were working acquaintances. He wasn't going to say nothing nor was he going to write an impassioned open letter. There was no doubt he was simply going to say something polite.

Others (not you) in other forums were saying silly things about him snubbing her because of her "tell all" book.

On the subject of "2016" being treated as an entity -- I only hope folks are being facetous. I have done that.

No matter how many celebs have died in the last few days -- every years has the same amount of high profile deaths. That's just a fact. In 2007 or 8, Don Knotts, Darin McGavin and Dennis Weaver died within 48 hours. But 2016 or 2008 or any other year has the same number of celeb deaths give or take a very small number.

I guess you could say every year has a high number of celebrity deaths, it's just a matter of how famous the celebrity in question is. 2009 had a high number of big celebrity deaths as well, so much so to the point that South Park even dedicated an episode to it.

I'm still very shocked. I mean, I knew about the heart attack last week but I guess just opening up Twitter earlier and actually reading a headline that said she had passed away was something I didn't think would happen for a while.

Rest in Peace, Carrie Fisher, you will live on in millions of peoples hearts.

Also, I had no idea her mom was still alive, as someone stated earlier. Even more tragic, a parent having to live through their child's death.

My heart goes out to her mother more than anything. I can only imagine how heart broken she is. She is an older lady and such a blow cannot be good for her. I also read Carrie had children my thoughts go to them as well; they are the ones who arr truly suffering. I just pray God gives them strength.

Totally forgot she appeared on Smallville and she seemed quite healthy at that time, and spoke quite clearly.

Her health problems must have amped up after then unfortunately. It's really sad. These things are hard to combat.

I think the big thing about 2016 is that it's a generational thing, those of us born after the mid 70's grew up with the likes of Fisher, Bowie, Rickman, Prince, etc. We grew up with these artists, so 2016 has been hitting people of that generation very hard.

Who did she play in Smallville?

Shame she couldn't have appeared on the Flash opposite Mark Hamill's Trickster.
