And how about Jane Seymour for Mary-Jane's aunt?
Can tell where the genes come from :hmm
Celebrity-Image-Jane-Seymour-244096.jpg

Nah, I want a granny aunt for her, just like Aunt May. It would make no sense to presume that MJ`s ugly if she`s got that Aunt. And Aunt May probably wouldn`t be best friends with someone so much younger.

Edit: Actually she`s not that young, she just looks like it. Still want a granny aunt though.

Yes :hmm

I wouldn't mind a more glamorous Aunt May.

Rosemary Harris was a granny and Sally Field lloked like a crazy cat lady with that hair.

Well it's not like Jane Seymour has always looked completely glamorous in all her roles. As Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, she was appropriately toned down and looked believable as a good country doctor. It's not like she was some sexpot doctor who had all the patients queuing up for an hourly checkup. :hehe:

Jane Seymour is 64. How old do you want May to be? In her 70s or 80s?

And why wouldn't it make sense to be best friends with someone "so much younger"? I've seen lots of friendships like that, and when people are well past middle age, it's not like one thinks of the other as a young whippersnapper anymore.

Yeah, I just checked and edited my post right before I read yours.

I have no problems with different age friendships. It`s just that I`ve always interpreted Aunt May and Aunt Watson as long long longtime friends, who`ve lived through the phases of life at the same time. it`s totally subjective to how I view it though, but that still makes me want a granny Aunt Watson

I think Jane would embody all that she needs to be for Anna Watson. Glamorous, fiercely protective of her niece after all the kid has went through.

I would like that sort of thing.

Maybe you'd prefer someone like Diana Rigg as Anna or May?

Let's not forget she was a sexy young thing once too:

Doesn`t really matter what she once looked like. What matters is how Peter sees her (which will obviously coincide to how we, the audience, see her). Having a hot Aunt Watson makes Peter`s assumption that MJ would be ugly completely irrational.

Not if the explanation is as I gave above, that Peter has already seen MJ when she was younger and didn't think much of her at the time, which is why he is deliberately avoiding her because he thinks he knows what she looks like. He might not have realised, having not seen her for years, that she has blossomed, and with a makeover by Aunt Anna, that could really turn her into a complete hottie.

Which would also add an extra level of meaning to the phrase "Face it Tiger, you've just hit the jackpot!" Because if he was already friends with MJ from before, and they got along, but Peter simply wasn't attracted to her, that means that now he has a date with someone he not only gets along with, but is also a stunner. So it's an added bonus, showing he's really hit the jackpot.

I'd say, for Aunt Anna, go with the original inspiration for MJ: Ann-Margret!

When we started to plot her first appearance in Amazing #42, Stan wasn’t sure if she should be beautiful or hideous. I was recently looking through the volume of Essential Spider-Man that reprinted some of Ditko’s issues, and they referred to Mary Jane as beautiful. Stan has a terrible memory and obviously forgot. It’s a good thing we didn’t make her hideous, because we would have looked really foolish. Anyway, once we agreed on making her beautiful, we had the problem of trying to make her look really spectacular. Stan wanted her to look something like a go-go girl. I used Ann-Margret from the movie Bye Bye, Birdie as a guide, using her coloring, the shape of her face, her red hair, and her form-fitting skirts. I exaggerated her dimples and the cleft in her chin
Sadly, she's probably out of the age range for the role. Still, she looks stunning!

She's 73. I wouldn't mind her and it would be a nice nod. She does look great for her age. But then, would she still be not "grannyish" enough for some people?

Why does a granny have to automatically look plain and ugly anyway? Someone in their 40s is even old enough to be a granny if their son or daughter has a baby. That can't suddenly turn them ugly.

Well, they probably shouldn't be super smoking hot bombshells, but I don't see anything wrong with May and Anna being attractive older women.

Anyway, I guess Ann-Margret could work if they cast someone like Helen Mirren or Diane Keaton for May, but I expect them to go for someone younger (especially if Peter is going back to high school).

That would be a really nice reference. I would really like that.

And of course Grandparents can look good. The "Granny" adjective being used is just the "stereotype-granny-that-makes-wheatcakes kind".

I don`t really like the idea of Peter having met MJ before, even if it was only briefly when they were kids. Wouldn`t care much if it was the case, though.

Just a few ideas that I like:

Peter Parker/Spider-Man- Freddie Highmore

Mary Jane Watson- Saoirse Ronan

Harry Osborn- Dylan O'Brien

Gwen Stacey- Dakota Fanning

Aunt May- Meryl Streep

Uncle Ben- Kevin Kline

J. Jonah Jameson- J.K. Simmons

Norman Osborn- Kevin Bacon

Quentin Beck/Mysterio- Neil Patrick Harris

That's a pretty high level cast there.

I agree with Neil Patrick Harris and Kevin Bacon.

May I add that I'm not ever going to change my views on Rose Leslie as MJ, Jonny Lee Miller as Carnage and Bryan Cranston as Doc Ock.

Kevin Kline might make a good J.J.J. if Simmons doesn't come back.:hmm

I'm not entirely sold on Neil Patrick Harris as Mysterio. The guy is at his best when he's funny, but I think you have to go creepier with Mysterio to really sell him. After all, he's a guy in a green cape with a fish bowl on his head.

I can't remember what that particular episode was called, but there was an episode of 'Law & Order: Criminal Order from awhile back where he guessed star as the criminal and gave a pretty good perfomance I thought.

Jackie Earle Haley, he's someone I would consider for the Goblin

Deepens his voice for Norman Osborn, then use his normal voice, which is more high pitched, for the Goblin :hmm
On looks alone, he'd be a great Carnage.
May I take a break from Norman to suggest Dennis Haysbert as Robbie Robertson from the Daily Bugle?

Great Choice!

It was called "Want" and was in Season 4. It was an awesome episode. NPH was playing a creepy cannibal serial killer based on Jeffrey Dahmer. He gave a brilliant performance which was a world away from Barney Stinson. It was in fact the polar opposite of Barney, because he was a very shy and socially awkward man who was unable to connect with any woman but longed to be close to someone. Despite being a despicable murderer, he made you feel a lot of sympathy for him, particularly when he was ultimately remorseful in the end and the horror of what he had become hit him.

But he's been in other things as well (TV movies, shows etc) where he's given a good performance and isn't like Barney. In fact, I personally felt Barney was more of a departure for him because I had seen him differently before.

How about Kelly McGillis as Aunt Anna if people are casting Jane Levy as MJ? She looks like she could believably be related to Levy, and also she doesn't look hot at all these days:

She's only 57 but looks older and so not hot at all whatsoever.

He's a good choice. I didn't care for the Robbie in the Raimi films. Robbie needs to have a presence and authority to him, with a fatherly feel.

OK, I'm going to go against what I said about looking like Aunt Anna, but this is an inspired choice if they want to go this route. A nice nod to the original inspiration for MJ in the comics.

For Aunt May I like the idea of Meryl Streep, Diane Wiest, or Glenn Close (but of course, we can't go with Close because of GOTG).

For Uncle Ben, I like the idea of Kevin Kline.

JJJ I could see J.K. Simmons returning to the role (he still does the voice in Ultimate and he's the only person I could see returning from the previous incarnations). But, if we go new, Bob Odenkirk would be a good choice.

Not sure about the young people, particularly Pete, because I'm not as familiar with younger talent. Though I like the idea of Anton Yelchin as Harry Osborn.

And, although I'm trying to keep an open mind and not get stuck on anyone or anything, I'm really hooked on the idea of Bryan Cranston as Norman Osborn. I want him cast and introduced in the first movie and build up the character before becoming the Green Goblin in later movies (done accurately, using that imp like mask I see on youtube that moves with your expression). And also build him up as a big bad in the MCU, possibly doing an adaption of Dark Reign. Seeing him as a competitor to Tony, oh man, I'm getting my hopes up.

(Well, I got my hopes up about Spidey joining the MCU, and now look...) :woot:

I still think Lennie James would be a great Robbie, and would bring something new to the character.

He's a good choice. I didn't care for the Robbie in the Raimi films. Robbie needs to have a presence and authority to him, with a fatherly feel.

Precisely. Haysbert has portrayed a president and a father with great presence in 24, while still coming across as benevolent. He would be a great play-off for JJJ.

Going back to NPH, I really want him in the MCU, but I expect him more in something like GOTG. I mean, I guess he could play "dark" but it seems a waste of what he's really good at.

It's kinda like the people wanting Bill Murrary as Uncle Ben. I can't see it, because I'll just keep waiting for him to turn into Peter Venkman.

The only one I every really bought as a "funnyman turned dramatic thespian" was Robin Williams (God rest him). I would find his dramatic performances compelling without expecting him to spaz out into the Robin Williams we all remembered. But that's kinda rare. For me at least.
