I don't know who I'd rather have, she just doesn't scream MJ to me

 But she looks just like the drawing. More so than even those who said Emma Stone looks just like comic MJ.

It's not that MJ simply looks super hot. She still has a certain distinct look to her. She doesn't look like Black Cat, for example. You can't just cast any generic model type, because sure, they'll look like a model, but they won't look like MJ.

Bolger is very close to that very distinctive look that MJ has, and even has some of the exact same facial features like the same smile, same expression, same dimples, same chin cleft etc.

Fixed :o

She pretty much looks like MJ practically leaped out of the comic books.

But people did say that Emma Stone looks just like MJ at the time she was cast as Gwen, and there was that whole uproar that Sony hired that actress of all people and then didn't give her the very role she seemed tailor-made for.

The reason people mention Jane Levy now is because she does bear some resemblance to Emma Stone as well.

But then, Sarah Bolger has a little resemblance to Stone at times too, but she actually looks even more like Romita's drawing of MJ than either Stone or Levy.

And why I like her for that part is that she's not so ubiquitous like Levy but is virtually under the radar, so she could totally become the part without carrying too much baggage.

To be honest, can't pinpoint exactly why, but she doesn't really scream MJ to me either, and I don't think she looks much like Romita's illustration (aside from a couple of photos).

I also don't see any resemblance to Emma Stone.

Pretty girl though.

I`d love Bolger as MJ, but I agree that she generally doesn`t look exactly like Romita`s design in general (besides some handpicked photos). That is not a problem for me though, since Romita`s design was never my favourite anyway.

Still think she is gorgeous and resembles the character enough, besides being able to pull off MJ`s spunky and charming personality.

Well I wasn't just going off her photos (although that did help demonstrate my point). I was looking more at her live footage, particularly videos like her Esquire interviews.

If you type "Sarah Bolger Has a Funny Joke for You" into YouTube, I think she she looks like Romita's MJ throughout the whole thing (minus the bangs, of course). Can't post the video here though because it has bad language.

Which is your favourite design of MJ? I think Romita's is the iconic version, which has been the template for most of the other versions except for maybe a select few like Todd McFarlane's (who has the 80s big hair and looks like a generic red head).

Oh, I`ve seen that video, and she`s great in it. I still don`t see that much of a resemblance to Romita`s specific design though (I see to other MJ designs we have had over the years, by other artists), but she indeed comes across very MJ-like. I`d love it if we got her.

Bolger not looking like Romita`s MJ is a bonus point for me, actually, since I never quite liked that design. It always felt somewhat out of place with the rest of the cast to me, with some weird facial features. That`s only my impression, of course, I know most people love it.

Wow, this is a difficult question. Romita is definitely the template for future designs, it`s just that I did not like how he drew it, and how it`s more distinguished features seemed not to fit with the rest of the cast (again, this purely a personal impression). I quite like Todd McFarlane`s exaggerated huge-hair, huge-eyes MJ, since it kind of fits with his already exaggerated style. That`s probably one of my favourites:

Out of the current ones, I have a love-hate relationship with Ramos` design of her. Some times it looks great, like here:

If this is inappropriate, please tell me, I`ll try and find another one immediately

And other times it looks really ugly, like in here:

He gets Peter much better, in my opinion.

This always bothered me, since I usually like his style and all of his other designs.

My cast so far

1. Dylan O'Brien - Peter Parker/ Spider-Man

2. Sarah Bolger - Mary Jane Watson

3. Cameron Monaghan - Harry Osborn

4. Meryl Streep - Aunt May

I'll come back to this later, as I have to do something else right now.
As I said before I love those choices. Now I want add something of mine.
5. J.K. Simmons - J. Jonah Jameson

6. Couple years ago I wanted Bruce Campbell as Quentin Beck (Mysterio). But now. My choice is Ty Burrell.

7. Jason Isaacs - Norman Osborne

I see the similarities :p

Phoebe Tonkin or Holland Roden. But my number one choice is still Lyndsy Fonseca. Sucks that she's on Agent Carter.

Fonseca was my number one choice as well, but her already being on Agent Carter and she's 28 now. If they're going for a younger Spider-Man, she wouldn't work.

And also of the fact that she's another character in the MCU...

Josh Hutcherson for Spider-man!

I'll admit, his try out last reboot surprised me. I never thought he could play a nerd.
That being said, I don't think his personality fits too well.
He plays the guy who rolls his eyes at his parents, is quiet until asked to speak. Acts cool all the time...
However, I'm sure he can play a nerd, as I've seen it in his tryout video.
The other problem is his looks... he's young enough looking, but he's too stocky to be spiderman.

Those are the reasons why I was surprised at his performance, but by looking at his performance I think he can easily play a nerdier Parker than Garfield. He could probably do a more Funny spiderman like Garfield, but not be AS funny with his one liners.

(BTW his tryout can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVHYkzj97wk)

I would say I don't want him as spidey, because he would have to change his personality as an actor to be spider man, which could be weird.
I'm sure he could pull it off though.

Some people in the thread have suggested Freddie Highmore as spiderman.
My opinion: He isn't a spiderman kinda guy.
He looks the perfect age, and is a great actor, but I would never be able to see him as spiderman. Especially with his voice, it's too low in my opinion. The fact that he has an accent is not that big of a problem, but spider man is a new york kid, even if he doesn't have a new york accent he should at least have an American one. Right?
I don't think the accent is as big of a problem as his low voice, I can't picture a spiderman with a lower voice like that. I guess that may be just me though! :P
I've seen people say he should be Harry as well... of course if they introduce harry.

I have a lot to say on the whole origin stories of spiderman debate, but in the end I think if we skip spiderman's origins I feel we would have to skip past Gwen Stacy, as well as the goblin. I feel they should do something different with the franchise, and re-doing the green goblin story a third time seems as bad as re-doing spider man. From the looks of it they MAY be bringing in Kingpin, or at least rumors say they will. I'm not sure if they can just bring him into Spiderman's movies so quickly, especially if they decide to do more daredevil with him... a crossover would be kinda cool though.
As for Gwen, they might not HAVE to skip her, her story has only been told once. (Actually... she was in Spiderman 3 wasn't she? I don't remember her in the movie at all, but recently read something about it... I don't remember much of 3 in general, just that Harry joins peter to defeat sandman and venom... I didn't watch it until a couple years after it was released anyways. :P )
Anyhow, they might be able to do Gwen stacy origins, but it may be better to just start with them already 'together'.

Figured I'd give this a try. I only have a few picked out so far though.

Spider-Man/Peter Parker: Dylan O'Brien
Harry Osborn- Cameron Monaghan or Freddie Highmore
Kraven the hunter- Manu Bennett
Norman Osborn- Jason Isaacs (I can see Cranston being a good Osborn, I can't see him being the Goblin. That's just me though.)
I would also like to see JK Simmons back, although I wouldn't be upset if they decided against it.

I agree with the bolded part :D

I'd be fine with this cast, although I'm not so keen on having Simmons back just because I want a fresh start with nothing associated with the Raimi franchise.

Not behind Manu Bennett as Kraven don't think he has the talent.

Think Armitage could have been a good Kraven, already been in the MCU though.

How about Pedro Pascal, I can see this being the face of Kraven

Pedro_Pascal_SDCC_2014.jpg

You;d have to make him Spanish aristocrat I guess.

I can see Pascal as Kraven. I think they'll go with Mysterio though, just wasn't sure who I would cast as Quentin Beck though.

Put Chris Pratt and Benedict in every role. They're in everything these days. XD

well, I don't think he'll be returning as Doc Samson (rocking the green hair) anytime soon, so, I wouldn't mind seeing him in another Marvel role

That reminds me this is a bit off topic..actually way off topic. But are they just literally ignoring the fact the introduced alot of the Hulk's major villains in in Hulk? They set up the Leader, and NEVER once even referenced it. Even in Agents of SHIELD would've been a good place to do the Leader. I mean seriously. I mean, they at least stated abomination is being held somewhere. But still.
