I think that sets up the film to be too focused on romance. To me, that was the big flaw of ASM. Way too much focus on the romance (despite how amazing Stone and Garfield were) that there was little individual character development.

I want to see more Peter Parker. Not his love life. I want them to make use of the wonderful world of supporting characters that are NOT romantic interests. Flash, Harry, J.Jonah, Aunt May etc.

But the thing about Spider-Man in the comics is that it was very much a soap opera in the life of Peter Parker. I don't think you can go without having Gwen or MJ. It's just part of what makes up Peter's life.

I still like to do it like tssm did. Start with peter and harry best friends. Along with gwen as there geeky but will blossom into a hottie friend. She has eyes for pete but peter doesn't see it. Cause he is fawning over liz and sally. Who don't want the light of day with him. As they are with flash kong randy or etc.... other jock characters.

Then i still would not have mj alreafy there. As I said. Play off through the first film may and her best friend Anna wateson want there neice and nephew to meet and become friends. But like the original comics and tssm did. Peter doesn't want to for what ever reasons be it school work spidry. Or the way may is talking about mj.

So then pete has those crushes on sally and Liz but it doesn't happen. As they don't want him at all. So all we see is flirtation and crush. But no full blown romance or relationships hogging up time during this first solo film.

Then we end the film where may and Anna finally convince peter to meet mj. And we do the full blown meet at the door and get the whole face it tiger deal. And mj is the supper hottie. And then in the sequels develop mj more along with her and gwen and the others becoming friends and the tango between peter mj and gwen romance wise. While also on the side lines delevop harry and Liz as a thing like the comics. That is how I like to see it done.

I want them to focus first on his friendships and his time in HS without the romantic story. I think there is a lot to discover there.

The romance can come in after he has matured, preferably after the HS trilogy or near the latter stages.

I think what this series needs to do is to have some lead female characters who aren't love interests and actually have personality and aren't defined by being the love interest. With the HS setting you plenty of opportunity for that with characters like Liz Allen, Deborah Whitman, Felicia Hardy, or even Betty Brant. Of course he can have crushes and Spiderman is a soap opera , but we have to keep in mind its not a soap opera just because of love triangles.

Its a soap oprea because of the character's balancing act, because of the characters relationships with his friends and foes, because of the supporting casts interactions with each other. It isn't all about "can we be together" or "meeting my soul mate" stuff.

Charles Dance as Silvermane would be terrific! (Though now I've got to go find a new MCU role for Morgan Freeman). I don't think it would be a waste at all, depending on what happens between now and then on Daredevil with Fisk. Unless he makes a comeback by 2017, Silvermane is the best bet for the top dog in NYC's mobs.

That was the idea. A really influential mobster who could be a longterm threat. I wanted someone else besides Fisk, since I`d rather have Daredevil deal with him.

And we can always find new roles for Morgan Freeman. Everything is better with Morgan Freeman.

I think Charles Dance as Silvermane would be a bit of a waste, as I imagine that role would be more like Leyland Owlsley in DD. I think he would be better served as Adrian Toomes.

I was thinking of Silvermane as a real "Big Bad" who would be present in several movies. Something like Tombstone in TSSM, the one pulling most of the strings.

So in that regard, he would have a much larger role as Silvermane than as Vulture. Also, for the Vulture, we could have Colm Feore:

He`d be great as a cranky, mean old guy. No one would notice he was a frost giant before.

I totally get wanting Harry and Gwen from the beginning, Webhead. Just a small correction: in the comics, Peter only meets them in college.

She has the long face like the classic version of May, but she would just be a little younger than a granny.

I would rather not have Pfeiffer, because her typical frizzy hairstyle is too similar to AnnaSophia Robb's as Carrie Bradshaw. It might look like Peter is getting the hots for someone reminding him of his surrogate mother.

But ASR probably wouldn't look like that anyway.

And Meg Ryan is too plasticy these days. I would rather have Streep. They should go after the biggest actress they can for that part. I can't see Streep being in any other part in the MCU, so this would be her one shot for a central character who is beloved.

Malkovich, Feore or Dance would be cool as the Vulture. They need to get a good actor in the role for sure so that he doesn't seem like a joke, and any of these three would work.

She would be cool. But again like like some some characters hard to give a real pick. Cause we don't know ages they be. Now sure I expect midtown cast be actors 18 to 22. May ben 50s early 60s. JJJ and robbie 50s. But then we got ones like betty and felicia do yoy want them to be closer in age to peter and gang or do you want them noticeably older.

not every female character needs to be a love interest (especially with a teenage Spidey) making them all young teeny bopper just to keep them age appropriate for Peter, just limits them as characters
