Homecoming What should they do with the Spidey franchise? - Part 2

I will agree with Fake Avi in that last exchange. The unmasking was a stupid idea long-term-wise in the comics, it would be too in a movie.

that image isn't even working for me anymore what did it say?

Avi Arad and Stan Lee need a cameo where they meet each other

Avi, still in caps, says that the unmasking of Spider-Man ruined the character to the point where they had to fix it with the lame One More Day storyline and that they might as well be adapting the Clone Saga, and Fake Amy says "Wow, fair point".

They did the unmasking to lead to OMD.

They can still put Spider-Man in a Civil War film and not let him reveal his identity. But that's not happening so whatever.

I kind of see it this way:

Let's assume Sony and Marvel make a deal and Spider-Man is introduced to the MCU after the events of Civil War. The superhero registration act has been put in place, so that encourages Peter to give himself a secret identity as a superhero, unlike the Avengers and other superheroes in that world. How does that sound?

Civil War is a great catalyst for secret identities in the mainstream MCU, and it'd be a missed opportunity if marvel didn't jump on that

Yeah. It would be a great way to introduce that whole secret identity aspect to the superhero genre that the MCU sort of lacks. Spider-Man would be such a great addition to their universe and I don't care what a lot of people say: the MCU is NOT too crowded for Spider-Man.

The MCU isn't too crowded for anyone. Iron Man, Rocket Raccoon, Deathlok, and Howard the freakin' Duck manage to exist in the MCU without an issue.

so, when are we gonna actually find out about stuff.

like when is sony gonna come out and say what's happening next. it has to be sony to say something anyways since they still own spiderman.

Exactly. And I assume that, sooner or later, THE MCU is going to lose some characters. For instance, I don't think RDJ will be playing Iron Man "forever." And I feel like after he leaves, they won't seriously recast him. But whatever the turnout of that will be, the MCU isn't too crowded. There is always room for Spider-Man for sure.

Gosh, I don't know. We don't know if the Spidey summit has even happened yet so that makes this difficult.

Literally the last piece of official news was the Sinister Six release date. If that movie was still moving forward, I'd imagine that they would be giving us some casting news at the very least (just as Suicide Squad is).

well, damn. until sony actually says something, all we're doing is playing guessing games, yeah?

and for months now that's essentially what we've been doing 70% of the time, is just playing guessing games without much info released to the public.

We'll get an announcement of some kind. It'll just be a long-ass time before we do.

Spiderman just brings so much more elements to every side of the earthly MCU

ugh, that's not the way to appease your fans and potential customers especially (after the leak) how spiderman being the mcu is a super hot topic, once again. except now, it is more possible than ever. they should tell us something sooner rather than later.

like march or april latest, but still within the first quarter or third of this year we should know something.

Yeah, that's exactly it. Right now Sinister Six is scheduled for a release date of November 11th, 2016. That's all we know at the moment. If this movie was still happening of if Sony was certain that it was going to enter production, I think we would have at least gotten a confirmation that Andrew Garfield was returning and some casting news.

Exactly. At least the MCU has Daredevil now in that Netflix series (so looking forward to that). But Spider-Man is the Marvel flagship character and the definitive underdog hero. So many great things that can happen with him in that universe.

I don't even want to wait until March or April. All they have to do is say, "A deal between Marvel and Sony has been made. Spider-Man WILL appear in the MCU." I can wait for specific details, such as who will be playing Spider-Man, etc etc.

right. and best case scenario from their silence of casting news, is that they are maybe, considering the fact that working with disney is their best move.

Comic Con is the deadline for this sort of thing. The rumors are way too strong for Sony and/or Marvel to not say anything all year.

YES YES YES. THIS THIS THIS. I understand how we can't get that announcement tomorrow (although that would be spectacular), but we know the spidey summit is this month, and that according to swh sony and disney execs are supposed to meet in person next month, so within this time frame (the first part of this year) I want to see an announcement.

how did they first announce that batman was gonna be in mos2? was it with that teaser with the batman superman logo?

Yes.

Think about it this way. We found out that Shailene Woodley was cast as Mary Jane in October of 2012. Jamie Foxx was cast as Electro in November of that same year, as was Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn. Paul Giamatti and Felicity Jones were cast in January of 2013. October, November and December have past without a single bit of casting news. That's very telling if you ask me.

okay, well I don't see them revealing spidey being in the mcu through any sort of footage. being that the rumors are saying if it's going to happen, he'll make his debut in cap3 in a very short or cameo role. so if that's the case, they'd just show all of it right in the announcement.

they'll probably just come out with a statement.

all I can tell from that was that most of the major casting news for the second asm film came relatively soon after the first film released.

I wouldn't want them to wait until SDCC just to say they made a deal. SDCC should be for bringing the new actor on stage, discussing the plans for Spidey's involvement, and so on. Long before that they can announce, "We have come to an agreement. Spidey will become a shared property of Sony and Marvel Studios/Disney" or something along those lines.

So really we should have gotten some casting news towards the end of 2014. We got nothing but a release date.

The complete lack of casting news or just plain news of any kind from Sony's end regarding S6 and TASM3 tells me something's up. The last time we heard anything was back in September when Garfield was asked about S6, which was two months prior to the hacks.
