Aunts can be any age. People can have older brothers. My brother is 10 years older than me. There's no reason Peter can't have an old aunt.

True but there is no reason they shouldn't cast young if they find the right actress. I like the idea of a bit younger myself because Tom is how much younger idk.

Except that Aunt May is traditionally an older woman.

Agreed. Naomi will be 47 by the time they start filming and 48 by the time the movie comes out. If they go through the trilogy she would be in her 50s for most of it.

Okay, let's do math. Let's say that Ben is ten to fifteen years older than Richard Parker. I don't think it's feasible that Richard and Mary would have Peter when they were too young, so let's say that Richard was 25 when Peter was born. Fifteen to sixteen years later is where we catch Peter Parker for the first time, so if the age gap between Richard and Ben is around 10-15 years, it's way more credible that Aunt May would be around 50 to 55 years old at most.

One of my favorite aspects of Spidey is him having to juggle the various troubles in his life. Having to support his sick Aunt wouldn't make much sense if she's played by stunningly beautiful Naomi Watts.

Or she can just be old, like she always is. This is a film about a teenager who gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gets superpowers. You can fudge ages a little bit.

She could eventually get sick and still be not too old.

Parents have children at varying ages, though. Richard could well be 40+ when Peter is born, and if Ben is a good 5 years older than him, then he could well be 60+ when Peter is 15.

Younger people get sick too. I'm not saying she can't be older I'm not that bothered but if the right actress is younger then it's not a big deal.

Naomi Watts as Aunt May is just so ridiculous. May should be someone who's seen a lot of life, a little rough, but still motherly. Frances McDormand or Sissy Spacek would be my choices.

People are forgetting that this Peter Parker will be 15-18 throughout three movies.

While it's true siblings can be any age, what are audiences going to relate most to? If they see a female character who is in her 70s or more, then the first thing they will think it's that she is Peter's grandmother. They'll probably even think that if she is in her 60s but why emphasize that? And if May s in her 70s then if Peter's grandmother were actually alive how old is she going to be? In her 90s? But this is getting into great grandmother territory.

Hence calling her 'Aunt May'.

Are you saying Marvel and Sony would never entertain the possibility of Watts when they've just been entertaining the possibility of Matthew Lintz? And unlike Lintz, not only is Naomi a completely realistic age for Peter's aunt but she's a terrific proven actress. And how can she not be motherly when not only has she played the mother of a teenager before but Tom's mother at that.

And people can have seen a lot of life at a young age.

Based on...

Younger Peter who actually looks young compared to the others and the possibility they want a new take on the character. Andrew Garfield easily looks like he could be Sally Fields nephew in terms of age, Tom Holland not so much.

Not saying they will do this but it's not entirely unrealistic is it?

If you cast Watts as Aunt May, might as well get Brad Pitt as Uncle Ben.

I think we're in for a younger Aunt May, who is more akin to the one in the Ultimate universe than the 616 one.

That's a very British Parker family. Bean is perfect casting, though.

I'm thinking Emma Thompson as May with Sean Bean as Ben.

Interesting. Will we ever see Ben though if it's not an origin story? I know there could be flashbacks but even those seem redundant because people know the story so well.
