Cate Blanchett is the Mysterious & Powerful Villainess HELA! - Part 1

I liked Hela. Although more than Hela, I liked the extra depth her character gave to Odin to be honest.

Obviously there’s the stuff in the movie with him covering up Asgard’s seedy history, but I think it adds more depth to the first Thor film.

Thor goes after the Frost Giants, and Odin immediately banishes Thor. Except it makes sense now. Was he seeing the blood thirsty Odin in Thor? Was he seeing his second child following in the war like tendencies of his first born?

I rewatched those banishment scenes after Ragnarok, and it just adds an extra layer.

With the other posts here and urs included...makes me want to watch Ragnarok again like now and the first Thor film. :hrt:

Go watch it again mate, don't let us stop you. ;)

Can someone find the tv spot where it shows Thor lighntning punching Hulk causing a shockwave?

I am pretty sure that these 2 shots in particular where done with the giant real headress. And it's interesting that you could take apart some of the antlers. If you take out the longest ones then you can clearly see where the other looks Hela has during the film.

I did. At the time i was like "Wait i have seen that statue before" and then realized that it was featured in Age of Ultron during Thor's dream/vison and also in the set of Infinity War too. So there is definitely clues pointing to Hela potentially showing up in IW.

That's so creepy, I was actually going to come post about this as soon as I got home! I was bored at work today and thinking about that TV spot (as you do :oldrazz:) and it occured to me that I'd forgotten all about that statue that totally did not appear in Ragnarok at any stage btw. What's even more interesting is that, according to the 'Art of AoU' book, Thor's vision scene doesn't even take place in Asgard, it takes place in Hel. Remember those masked creepy looking guys that are hanging around in the background? They are the 'Peoples of Hel' according to official concept art:

So, that statue? Is in Hel, not Asgard. We know that Hel as a place exists in the MCU, both Loki and Thor have referenced it. But strangely Ragnarok doesn't mention and/or feature Hel at all, even though in the comics Hela is it's ruler. My personal theory is that Hel is where Odin was actually keeping Hela imprisoned (maybe she was named after the realm, or the realm was named after her), so she wasn't in a physical prison but rather being held in Hel and Odin's enchantment meant she couldn't leave. So if she did survive the end of Ragnarok (which she did, c'mon, there was an obvious flash of green where she was standing before Surtur brought his sword down) it's feasible that Hela may have simply teleported herself back to Hel (for a lack of anywhere else to go with Asgard gone), and that's where we (and maybe Thanos himself) will potentially find her in IW, hence the statue and Thor's whole vision in general coming into play.

Also, remember that random hooded figure that walks past Thor in that scene? At one point they were trying to hand wave that by saying it was Loki who was originally in the scene but then got cut out, but I've never fully bought that. Why would they cut out all other traces of Loki being in that scene, but leave in one random shot of him in a cloak walking past them? I don't think it's Loki at all, I think it's actually supposed to be Hela, dressed in a black hooded cloak as a nod to Mistress Death and her traditional look in the comics.

Every day I get more convinced that Hela is going to be in IW, it feels to me like they're just leaving little hints and clues like this everywhere to see if fans pick up on them. I feel like a detective picking up clues everywhere. :woot:

And she would still have power, because she derives her power, like Thor, from Asgard. And Asgard is not a place, but a people. And therefor, the people of Asgard could not be killed off, or she would be powerless (and so would Thor)

I doubt if the people of Asgard die Thor would be powerless, Odin says Thor's power is his own and I'll take his word over someone who just met Thor (Valkyrie).

Great take.

Pretty sure it was Heimdall and I don't recall Odin saying there was no link there. But now I have an excuse to go again. Research and all

No it was Valkyrie who said Hela and Thor draw their powers from Asgard, Odin and Heimdall just said Hela.

The idea was that, if left with Asgard, she would *grow* in power. Destroying Asgard would stop this, not make her less powerful. Though honestly, I think the bigger idea was "If we unleash Surtur and let him destroy Asgard, we're pretty sure he will kill Hela in the process."

Agreed, I think people are talking it too literally.

Think of it as a power boost, not a power source.

Agreed. My take is that both Hela and Thor are powerful in their own right, just like Odin is. Their connection to Asgard just enhances that inherent power, especially in Hela's case because she's the oldest and therefore the rightful heir. The longer she spent on Asgard, the more her natural power was enhanced. So if she is still alive, she will still be powerful, she just won't reach the upper limits of her power like she would have done with Asgard in existence.

Two more pieces of Hela concept art from Andy Park, it's interesting to see how many variations her look went through before they settled for the much more comics accurate one, for which I'm very glad they did. :woot:

Its gonna be a long wait for any confirmation of Cate being part of IW as Hela or not. :(

Why hotter raven haired than as a blond.

Cate is hot no matter her hair colour.

I'll take one of each, please. :drl:

I know, long and nerve-wracking. :cwink: If she is in it, I wonder if they'll try and hide that fact right up to the movie's release, or if they'll eventually reveal it beforehand in a trailer or possible BP post-credits scene, or something like that. If they try and hide it right up to release, that will take some doing. Cate would have to be uncredited and she wouldn't be able to do any promo or even attend the premiere. If she did, it would be a bit of a giveaway. Oh hi, I'm just randomly attending this premiere of a Marvel movie THAT I'M TOTALLY NOT IN btw. :woot:

Hela's pet. :)

Poor Fenris. :csad: He was just being a good dog for his momma, he didn't deserve to die (again). Well, Loki managed to survive falling into that exact same cosmic vortex thingy, maybe Fenris will survive too.
