Chapter 52 - 'Exposed" Discussion Thread 3/2/09

This show really is starting to get alot better hopefully they can keep this up!

After tonight, is there really anymore question as to who Rebel is? It has to be Micah.

Now whether or not he's working with someone remains to be seen, but I think he is Rebel or at least a part of a group of people working under the name Rebel.

This episode was pretty meh...nothing exciting happened. I do think Nathan is going to die.

SURPRISE!!! Peter has been hiding he new form ability from every one. So now his first season power has now must touch instead of feeling them!!

So Peter still keeps any powers he gets but he has to touch that person ?

I think so two, by the hands of sylar :word:

I liked the episode Peter was brilliant here and I liked the team work between him and Matt. I am just as confused as ever by Nathan, he loves his bro that he's saving him but still feels his plans are for the better? Weird. I also really can't stand claire, her storylines have now become a drama show :csad:

Damn I hate nathan saving peter just let him have more than one power!

I liked tonite's ep...we see the limitations of Parkman's powers, and that answered a lot of "why didn't he..."s...as in, why didn't he just go in and control everyone's mind those times before, etc. etc. Parkman has a great power but there are chinks in the armour. Peter is more willing to pull the trigger and do what it takes, and is not so naive to trust his mother and brother--he's growing stronger as a character.

I also liked seeing Sandra make use of herself, like Claire should have all this time--Great to see that's she's savvy and can handle herself to an extent.

I'm also beginning to think more and more that the rebel could be Micah--up til now, every transmission has been through some kind of technology. Not sure if there's been any spoilers in this thread as to who the rebel is, but those are my thoughts. Would be awesome if it is.

Did anyone notice that Rachel Mills, the marine from the webisodes that can teleport, was one of the marines that barged in the Bennett home searching for Alex.

I think she's a mole.

I thought she looked familiar, you think Noah is gonna take the riens from the Bald guy in the organization? Just a thought.

Why did Peter touch Nathan near the end ? He already could fly

He can only hold one ability at a time now. So he had Parkman's power prior to the end, then he absorbed Nathan's flight afterwards.

It's a possibility, with HRG you never know. Someone in another thread mentioned the Hunter might surprise us by having an ability...that would be interesting, especially since he's catching on that Nathan has one, too.

After The Hunter shot him & Peter fell he flew away without having to touch Nathan & he still had Parkman's power at the time. I don't remember Nathan being near Peter

Nathan flew in and grabbed Peter then flew away. At first I thought Peter just flew as well but that wasn't the case

Hmm just looked at the scene & yeah Nathan flew him you can clearly see him if you view it frame by frame. I won't be happy until Peter can have more then one power at a time again. Are there 20 or 22 episodes this season ?

If they kill off Matt and possibly Nathan this next episode then I will have have nearly all respect back for this show...otherwise everything is predictable and I don't think he will die:o

I totally called that REBEL is Micah... its really obvious now :o

This was another one of those episodes which seemed just okay. First of all, having Peter and Matt do jedi mind-tricks through building 26 was a little amusing, but nothing overly spectacular. Although, at least you've got Peter using his some intelligence in realizing they could (ahem) expose the Hunters operations. Not to mention Matt's cocky smirk at the video camera while the Nathan, HRG, and the hunters helplessly watched. Although isn't it convenient that Peter and Matt managed to find a USB flash drive right then and there?

Then you had the story in which Claire and her mom try to help Alex escape. To me this was somewhat of a mixed bag. On the one hand, it gives Mrs. Bennet some degree of character development in the sense that she proves how resourceful and clever she can be and laments the fact that she's been lied to for so long because Claire and HRG thought she couldn't handle it (of course, much of that "lying" was the Haitain wiping out her memories whenever she stumbled on the truth to the point she practically had a tumor--whatever happened to THAT subplot from season 1?). Then we get a forced romance between Claire and Alex, including cliche's about hiding him in the closet, spotting him naked, tumbling down a hill so where they look like they're about to have sex, and stealing the kissing scene from Waterworld in which Alex "breathes for both of them." Um, you do realize she can't drown, right Aqualad? And how in the world could that FBI agent NOT see those air bubbles or spot them with her flashlight in a 9 foot swimming pool? But the most cringe-worthy moment had to be Claire and Alex flirting with each other over the old marriage satistics about how 50% marriages end in divorce while the other 50% stay together. Sure, it's not nearly as bad as the Clarie/West relationship and thankfully it only lasted for one episode, but even so.

Even the Sylar and Luke road trip seemed a little dull. Not to mention a little cheesy when it got into flashback mode with Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" in the background, along with the a splash of red for blood to envoke Sin City or some such. And we get yet ANOTHER retcon of Sylar in the process, as it appears that Sylar's real father--along with killing Sylar's mother--had telekinetic powers, which apparently explains why Sylar has such great control over them and that it's actually part of a latent ability, even though it was clearly established that Sylar stole it from someone else in season 1. So, things were looking average to okay at best.

Until the last couple of minutes.

First there was that scene of Sylar putting Luke in his place and pretty much telling him how he's just trying to run away from his problems while posing him for some head slicing action. Even though Sylar spared him, I have a feeling that this dynamic duo is pretty much over before it started to get annoying like Hiro and Ando.

We get Peter releasing the clip of the specials being hauled off like prisoners in Gitmo to the news media and thus screwing Nathan's plans in the process.

Then there was Mr. Danko, who even though I still think is pretty one-dimensional villain at this point, shows how ruthless he can be and desperate he is in proving how those with powers are essentially terrorists by rigging Matt up with an explosive vest to blow up the Capital. One might wonder if the paintings became a self-fulling prophecy rather than an actual one.

And finally, it's the return of Doyle the puppet master seeking Claire for help. That, of course, has got to be really awkward considering what happened between him and Claire. Although, I thought Sylar killed him at the end of volume 3? Seems like the show has continuity problems just like the comic books it takes inspiration from. :oldrazz:

Next week, however, looks interesting enough, as it appears it's going to focus solely on Matt's current predicament.

Actually, I think it was implied that it was really Nathan who flew in and saved Peter--directly prior to this, we see Peter using Matt's ability to hear HRG's thoughts. Then he's shot, falls, and "someone" flies in and saves him.

Rememeber, Nathan has flown in out of nowhere before--at the Hunter's apartment, the Hunter asks how Nathan got there so fast, etc.

Well first, we didn't actually see what happened to Doyle, but yes it was implied that he was murdered. But I'm going to roll with this plot twist just for the sake of it.

I felt the Claire/Sandra/Alex bit was actually good--everyone has been complaining that Claire wants to help but doesn't/isn't able to do anything, and now she's being proactive. Good to see her Mom doing something too instead of just harping about how dangerous the situation is (although she started off on that note...however, just as I began rolling my eyes again, she changed tempo). You bring up a good point about all the shizz HRG has had done to Sandra in the past (i.e. the Haitian's mind wiping); I think Sandra should consider a separation or just go a different route instead of reconciling with him. I think that would add a new dynamic to the Bennett mix, and maybe throw in something else for HRG, especially if his family is showing they don't need him anymore or can act independent of him.

The clichés, yes I cringed too, especially with the underwater kiss and the falling on top of each other. At least it appeared to be over by the end of the ep.

Personally I enjoyed this ep more than that of last week; I'm not much the fan of the flashback sequences, particularly as it relates to this volume's theme. They're not as interesting as flashbacks they've shown before in order to develop some of the other characters.

I would be inclined to agree. All the messages are sent through technology, as well as the aid provided--with his powers, Micah could definitely pull that off.

Damn I hate nathan saving peter just let him have more than one power!

Restrict Peter to one power, people complain. Let him retain people's powers, people complain. There is no way the showmakers are going to satisfy everyone from the looks of it. At least now, Peter isn't so much of a God Mode Sue and doesn't look like an idiot for not simply using one of his myriad abilities to instantly solve the crisis.

Here's another possibility, Hana Gitelman.

If I am not mistaken Hana was [BLACKOUT]killed in the online graphic novels[/BLACKOUT] but we know how that goes :D

Is she only in the graphic novels? I don't remember her on the show. But from what I read there it could work.

And I think showing limitations to the characters' powers not only helps explain why someone doesn't simply walk in and take everyone out (as we'd assume they could), but also adds an element of "reality" to a surreal show--they have superhuman abilities, but they're not gods, so to speak. They have weaknesses. This makes things interesting.

Agreed.
