Plot hole.
I know there are a few fantastic elements in some of his movies. But I don't think he has the respect for comic book heroes as much as we do. He thinks he's an artist and the only way to bring these lowly comic book heroes up to his level is to make them "real".
These are all just speculations of course. I just don't think he's a good fit. Hell, he didn't want anything to do with the DC Universe outside of Batman because Superman was to fantastic.
I think my concerns are legitimate.

Yesterday I posted up part of an article on Nolan's comicbook tastes and habits on the 'Dark Knight sequel hunters.' thread, he said 2000AD is the only regular comic he ever got into , and said that comicbooks were doing far more interesting things with sci-fi than the movies were.
I think he just likes the more realistic 'gritty' Batman tales, a lot of fans do.
Good news all round on the DC films front.
